USER GUIDE: COMFORT VALUE Recline Sling (CVR)

1. APPLICATION
The COMFORT VALUE Recline sling (CVR) is designed as an in-chair sling and may also be used as a general-
purpose transfer sling. It can be used in both wet and dry environments as well as being suitable for
amputees (above knee, single and bilateral). Attachment type: loop fixing.
2. SAFETY
•Only people trained and assessed as competent should ever use hoists and slings.
•CVR slings come in six sizes. Ensure that you select the correct size for the comfort and safety of
the person being transferred.
•Follow the wash care instructions carefully and never use bleach.
•Slings must be thoroughly examined for safety by a competent person every six months or more
frequently if the competent person deems it to be necessary.
•A chest support is available as an optional extra.

3. SLING SWL INSPECTION
3.1 Care & Independence slings are designed and manufactured to meet or exceed BS EN 10535:2006
Hoists for the transfer of disabled persons.
3.2 The maximum weight load is 200kg.
3.3 Slings should be inspected prior to use and after washing. The sling should be checked for the
following:
•Stitching becoming undone, frayed, broken with special attention to the critical points such
as tape attachment and lifting loops.
•Any signs of damage to the fabric such as tearing undue wear or miss-shaped
•Signs of discolouring or bleaching of the material
•All the label clearly legible
•All parts of the sling complete
4. COMPATIBILITY
4.1 Care & Independence slings have been manufactured to work with most of the major hoist
manufacturers’equipment. A compatibility statement is available on request.
4.2 A risk assessment must be completed before using the sling, even if the hoist and sling is provided
from the same manufacturer.
5. FITTING THE SLING (User in supine position)
i. Roll User away from you onto their side. Ensure they cannot fall by raising a cot
side or there is someone to stop them falling off the bed.
ii. Place half the sling over User’s back lining up the sling at the back of the knee
with the darts at the hip.
iii. Tuck pommel between Users knees.
iv. Roll up the remaining half of sling (ensuring tapes are tucked into the roll) and
tuck beneath the User.
v. Roll patient back towards you and pull through the rolled-up sling then roll the
user onto their back.
