Read this instr ction man al
thoro ghly before sing the appliance.
Keep all installation, operating and
maintenance instr ctions caref lly and
hand them on if yo transfer the
appliance to another owner.
This appliance conforms to the Low
Voltage Directive (73/23 EEC) and
Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive
(89/336 EEC).
It m st be installed by q alified
personnel only.
The appliance m st be installed in an
area which is not accessible to the
p blic.
WARNING! Always disconnect the
appliance from the mains s pply before
starting any maintenance work and
before accessing any internal
components.
• Fo ow a the precautions isted be ow.
They are essentia to safety.
• Check that the app iance has not been
damaged in transit. If any damage is visib e,
report it to the carrier immediate y.
• Make sure that the vo tage and
frequency of the mains e ectricity supp y
correspond to the specifications on the
app iance. A so make sure that the mains
supp y has sufficient insta ed power for the
app iance to operate simu taneous y with
any other e ectrica app iances that might
be connected to the same power ine.
• To avoid fire, exp osion and injury, never
operate the app iance in the presence of
dangerous substances or near app iances
that produce naked f ames.
• In partic lar make s re that the
appliance is efficiently earthed.
• The system must be connected to the
mains e ectricity supp y in accordance with
the wiring diagram in the outdoor section
insta ation manua .
• Make sure that the app iance is insta ed
in comp iance with a app icab e nationa
safety standards.
• The app iance can on y operate correct y
and without risk provided it has been
insta ed and tested by specia ist
personne .
• After insta ation, carry out functiona
testing and instruct the user in the
operation of the system.
• This manua describes the insta ation of
the indoor unit of a sp it system consisting
of two Carrier units. Coup ing different
units equipped with different contro
systems can damage the systems and
inva idates the respective warranties. The
manufacturer accepts no responsibi ity for
system ma functions deriving from
unapproved coup ing.
• The manufacturer dec ines a
responsibi ity for damage or injury caused
by unauthorised modifications to the
app iance or incorrect e ectrica or coo ant
connections.
• Fai ure to observe the instructions given
in this manua or use of the app iance in
conditions other than those specified in the
“Operating Limitations” tab e in the
app iance’s insta ation manua
automatica y inva idates the warranty.
• On y use the app iance for the purpose
for which it is intended. The indoor unit is
not suitab e for use in washrooms.
• Do not use the app iance if it is
damaged. In the event of any
ma functioning, switch the app iance off
immediate y and disconnect it from the
mains e ectricity supp y.
• On y qua ified personne are authorised
to c ean inside or maintain the app iance.
• Arrange for periodic checks to be carried
out on the unit, the e ectrica connections,
the coo ant pipes and the safety devices
(these operations must be carried out by
qua ified personne on y).
• This app iance contains moving parts.

them.

Installation
SELECTING THE INSTALLATION
POSITION
• The 40DQV unit is designed ducted
insta ation in suspended cei ings.
• The unit must not be accessib e to the
pub ic.
• As a ru e, the unit cannot be insta ed at a
height of ess than 2.5 m.
• It is possib e to insta the unit at a height
of between 2.2 m and 2.5 m from the
ground if the system is configured for intake
from the rear. In this case, it is necessary to
provide an intake duct with minimum ength
of 250 mm.
Avoid the following:
• Positions exposed to direct sun ight.
• Areas near heat sources.
• Damp p aces and positions in which the
unit cou d come into contact with water (e.g.
aundry rooms).
• Rooms in which she ving or furniture may
obstruct the f ow of air.
Do the following:
• Se ect a position capab e of supporting
the weight of the operating unit.
• Leave sufficient space around the unit for
maintenance and free circu ation of air
(see figure).
• Leave an aperture in the suspended
cei ing or ensure that a part of the atter can
be removed for carrying out maintenance
operations on the unit.
• Se ect a p ace which is free from dirt,
foreign bodies or other materia that may
obstruct the coi .
• Suitab e dampers must be p aced
between the brackets of the unit and the
hanging system so as to prevent noise
transmission.
• Insta the unit in such a way that
condensate can be drained easi y to a
suitab e waste out et.
Note: A dri ing temp ate has been provided
on the unit packaging to faci itate
insta ation.

INSTALLING THE UNIT
Important: the nit m st be correctly
levelled.
Insert the 4 M8 threaded tie rods into the
cei ing. Insert the other end of the tie rods
through the s ots in the hanging brackets
on the sides of the unit. Position the anti-
vibration dampers, add the washers and
tighten the nuts unti the unit is correct y
fixed and eve ed. If space permits, p ace a
ayer of rubber or neoprene between the
cei ing and the unit.
On comp etion of these operations it is
necessary to:
• insta a suspended cei ing to concea the
unit;
• inc ude a removab e pane for future
maintenance work;
• fit suitab y sized gri es in the suspended
cei ing to a ow air intake.
CONDENSATE DRAINAGE
Important: do not lift the nit by means
of the condensate drain pipe.
A units are equipped with a condensate
co ection tray with 21 mm externa Ø drain
pipe.
Therefore fit a pipe for the evacuation of
condensate.
Adhere to the fo owing recommendations:
• Use pipes in ga vanised stee , copper or
transparent p astic. Do not use norma
garden hoses.
• Use materia which ensures that the
drain pipe connections are tota y sea ed.
• If using rigid materia for the out et pipe, fit
a number of f exib e coup ings to absorb any
vibrations from the unit.
• The drainage ine must a ways be be ow
the connection itse f, with a suitab e
gradient to faci itate outf ow.
• Pour a few itres of water into the
condensate co ection tray and check that it
f ows out correct y. If not, check the
gradient of the pipes and ook for possib e
obstructions.
INTAKE CONFIGURATION
Important: nits config red for intake
from below m st not be installed at a
height of less than 2.5 m from the
gro nd.
The unit is factory-configured for air intake
from the rear.

It can be configured for intake from be ow
simp y by inverting pane s A and B.
During the operation, take the fo owing
precautions to avoid damaging parts of the
unit:
remove the fi ter.
Before removing the rear pane (A) pu the
drain pipe out of its seat by pressing gent y
on the sides.
When fitting the rear pane , take care not to
damage the insu ation of the pipes with the
edges of the pane s. On comp etion of the
operation, fit the fi ter.
AIR OUTLET CONFIGURATION
The Carrier 40DQV unit is predisposed for
either side or front air out et.
Installation with front o tlet
The standard factory configuration is with
front out et and ducting with rectangu ar
conduits

The unit can be predisposed for ducting
with circu ar conduits.
Each of the fo owing configurations can be
executed with the items supp ied with the
unit.

Do not adopt configurations other than
those indicated above, as this may
compromise the correct operation of the
unit. In particu ar, avoid operating the unit
with just one aperture.
Predisposition of the nit for circ lar
front o tlets
The unit is supp ied with a front enc osure
pane with 8” diameter circu ar cut-outs.
Before removing the cut-outs, cut the
insu ation on both sides of the pane with a
suitab e knife. This faci itates opening and
prevents damage to the insu ation.
After removing the cut-outs, make certain
that the insu ation covers a the parts in
stee sheet.
After removing the cut-outs, rep ace the
front pane of the unit. A so using the screws
supp ied.

The area of the pane which can be used
for fixing the 8” circu ar f anges (not
supp ied) is as shown in the figure. Avoid
dri ing or fastening screws in the shaded
area of the figure so as not to damage the
unit’s tray.
Installation with side o tlet
The unit is predisposed so that it can be
insta ed in corridors to make optimum use
of the two circu ar out ets on the sides. In
order to prepare the unit for this type of
insta ation, proceed as fo ows:
remove the two cut-outs in the sides of the
unit.
After remova , make certain that the
insu ation covers the stee sheet around
the cut area.
The area which can be used for fixing the
8” circu ar f anges (not supp ied) is as
shown in the figure.
Avoid dri ing or fastening screws in the
areas high ighted in the figure so as not to
damage the unit’s tray.
Rep ace the front pane of the unit with the
pane supp ied.

FRESH AIR INTAKE
There is a cut-out on the side of the unit,
which can be used as a fresh air intake. It
can be opened with a screwdriver.
DUCTING
Important: the d cting m st be
designed and calc lated by q alified
technicians.
Determine the dimensions of the ducts
according to the air f ow rate required and
the avai ab e static pressure of the unit
(refer to the fan diagrams on previous
pages).
You are advised to adhere to the fo owing
recommendations:
• regard ess of the type of duct used, it
must not be made of inf ammab e materia ,
which produces toxic gases in the event of
fire. The interna surfaces must be smooth
and not contaminate the air passing
through them. You are advised to use
ducts in ga vanised stee , suitab y
insu ated, to prevent the formation of
condensate and therma osses.
• The ducts shou d be joined with f exib e
coup ings which absorb vibrations, prevent
noise transmission inside the ducting and
a ow access to the unit.
• As far as possib e, avoid bends near the
unit’s air out et. If this is not possib e, the
radius of curvature must be as wide as
possib e; use interna def ectors if the duct
is of arge dimensions.

Coolant connections
Warning!
Connect the indoor and outdoor units using copper pipes with f ared connections (not
supp ied). For the ines, use insu ated, unwe ded, degreased and de-oxidised copper pipe,
(Cu DHP type to ISO 1337), suitab e for operating pressures of at east 4200 kPa and for
a burst pressure of at east 20700 kPa. Copper pipe for hydro-sanitary app ications is
comp ete y unsuitab e.
For sizing and limits (height difference, line length, max. bends, refrigerant charge,
etc.) see the o tdoor nit installation man al.

FLARING THE PIPE ENDS
Remove the protection caps from the ends
of the copper pipes. Ho d the pipe with the
end pointing downwards, cut off the excess
and remove any swarf with a burr remova
too .
Remove the unions from the body of the
“FLARE” connection of the unit and s ide
them onto the pipes. F are the end of the
pipe with an appropriate too .

The f are must be free from burrs and
imperfections. The wa s of the f are must
be of identica ength.
Lubricate the end of the pipe and the
thread of the “FLARE” connection with
non-freezing oi . Tighten the union by hand
for a few turns and then tighten each
connection with two wrenches, to the
torque shown in the tab e.
CONNECTING THE PIPE TO THE UNIT
If the torque setting is insufficient,
refrigerant f uid wi eak from the
connection.
Once you have comp eted a the
connections, check for possib e eaks
using a eak detector specifica y designed
for HFC refrigerants. C ad the pipes and
taps with anti-condensation insu ating
materia and fix with adhesive tape, without
compressing the insu ation too much. Any
cuts or tears in the insu ating materia must
be repaired. The pipes and e ectrica
cab es connecting the indoor unit with the
outdoor unit must be fixed to the wa with
suitab e ducts.
