Unit II: Probability
(1c) How to write fractions in natural display using the Casio fx-9860GII
1. From the main menu, highlight the RUN•MAT icon
and press l.
2. Press Lthen pfor the Set-up screen; scroll
down to Frac Result. At the bottom of the screen,
there are two choices; qwill display fractions
as "improper", while wwill display fractions as
mixed numbers.
3. Select qto display answers as "improper"
fractions. Then, press dto return to the initial
screen.
4. To enter the fraction 8
3, press 3z8. This
calculator utilizes Natural Display, allowing for input
and output to appear as it would in a textbook.

(1c) How to change fractions to decimals using the Casio fx-9860GII
1. Enter the fraction 8
3by pressing 3z8l.

2. To change the fraction to a decimal representation,
press x. This is the "form to decimal" key and
operates as a toggle key.
3. You can return to fraction form by pressing xagain.
(1c) How to change fractions (and decimals) to percents
1. For a number in fraction form, such as 8
3, first
change to a decimal by pressing x.
2. Once the number is in decimal form, multiply by 100
to change to percent form. It may be necessary to
press xto display the number in decimal form
instead of fraction form.
Unit III: Statistical Studies
(1a) Seeding a calculator
It is not necessary to seed the Casio fx-9860GII.
(1e) How to use random sampling - choosing 5 schools from a list of 1000
1. From the main menu, highlight the RUN•MAT icon
and press l. If there is data on the screen, press
w(DEL), w(DEL-A), then qfor yes.

2. Press iu(>), e(PROB), r(RAND) and w
(Int). Then input 1,1000,5
kl. The screen shot to the right displays the
random sample 494, 219, 869, 587, and 144. Each
sample will be unique.
3. To display the next sample of 5 schools, press l
again.

1. From the main menu, highlight the STAT icon
and press l. If any list contains data, highlight
any entry in the list and then press u(),>
r(DEL-A), then qto delete all entries in that
list. Repeat for each list containing data.

2. When all lists are cleared, title each column. Press
Bto scroll to the SUB row. Then press La(A-
LOCK) to activate Alpha-lock. Using the red letters at
the top right of each key, type the titles. Press l
after typing each title. Only 6 characters may be used
for each title. The space is above the decimal point.
Repeat these steps for each column.
Title the lists as:
List 1 – GRADE
List 2 - ST NO
List 3 – PER TO
List 4 – SAMP N
List 5 - ROUND
3. Highlight the first entry in List 1. Enter the
grades into List 1 using only the number.
Press lafter each entry. Scroll to the right
and up to move to the first entry of the next list.
4. Enter the number of students into List 2. Press l
after each number. Scroll to the right and up to
move to the next list. Do not enter the total.
5. Press
p. Highlight RUN•MAT and press l
to be in the correct menu to perform operations on
lists. In order to fill List 3 with the percentage of
the total, the calculator will divide each number in
List 2 by 2,714 and then multiply by 100. The result
will be stored in List 3. Do this by pressing iqq
2M2714m100bq3l.

6. In order to obtain the 60 samples needed, divide
List 3 by 100 and multiply by 60. Store these answers
in List 4. Do this by pressing
q3M100m60bq4l.
7. Press menu then highlight STAT and press lto
return to the lists. Scroll to the right to List 5. Round
the numbers in List 4 and enter the rounded values
into List 5.

1. From the main menu, highlight the STAT icon
and press l. If any list contains data, highlight
any entry in the list and then press u(),>
r(DEL-A), then qto delete all entries in that
list. Repeat for each list containing data.
2. When all lists are cleared, enter the data given in
the problem into List 1: 2 students received an
average grade of 65, 7 students had 75, 9 students
had 85, and 3 students had 95. Press lafter
each entry.
3. Press
q(GRPH), u(SET), scroll down one line
to Graph Type, press u(>), then q(Hist). XList
should be List1 and Frequency should be 1. Press
dto return to the lists. Then press q(GPH1),
l.

How to construct a box plot with and without outliers
1. From the main menu, highlight the STAT icon
and press
l. If any list contains data, highlight
any entry in the list and then press u(),>
r(DEL-A), then qto delete all entries in that
list. Repeat for each list containing data.
2. Enter the PPG data into List 1, pressing l
after each entry.
3. Press q(GRPH), then u(SET). Scroll down one
line to Graph Type and press u(>), then w(Box).
Scroll down to Outliers and press w(Off) to
construct the box plot without outliers. (Press
q(On) to construct the box plot with outliers.)
Press dto return to the previous screen, then
q(GPH1). The first screen shot on the right
displays the box plot without outliers. The second
screen shot displays the box plot with outliers.

How to display two box plots using the same screen.
Using the same data as above, both the box plot with outliers and the box plot without
outliers will be displayed on the same screen.

1. From the main menu, highlight the STAT icon
and press l. If any list contains data, highlight

list. Repeat for each list containing data.
2. Enter the PPG data into List 1, pressing l
after each entry.
3. Press
q(GRPH), u(SET), then q(GRPH1). Scroll
down one line to Graph Type and press u(>),
w(Box). Scroll down to Outliers and press w(Off)
to construct the box plot without outliers. Press d
to return to the previous screen. Press u(SET),
w(GRPH2). Scroll down one line to Graph
Type and press u(>), then w(Box). Scroll down
to Outliers and press q(On) to construct the box plot
with outliers. Press dto return to the previous
screen. Press r(SEL), then press qto turn
StatGraph1 on. Scroll down one place and press q
to turn StatGraph2 on. Press u(DRAW).

(2b) How to save to document on classroom computer.
1. Download the FA-124 Program-Link software to the computer before connecting the
calculator to the computer. The software and cable came packaged with the Casio
fx-9860GII calculator. Connect the calculator to the computer using the cable
provided. Once connected, a connection mode screen will appear on the calculator.
Select DATA TRANSFER: [F1]. The following screen will appear on the computer.

Use the mouse to click the connection button in the top left corner (see the red
arrow on the screen shot below).
2. The following screen will appear on the computer. Click on the icon next to User1
(see the red arrow on the screen shot below).

3. Choose the file to transfer from the list that appears.
4. After selecting the data items to send, press u(TRANS). A message appears to
confirm executing the send operation. Press q(Yes). The calculator will display a
message when the transfer is complete.
Unit IV: Using Recursion in Models and Decision Making
(1b) How to enter bivariate data into lists using the Casio fx-9860GII
Use the following data:

1. From the main menu, highlight the STAT icon
and press l. If any list contains data, highlight
any entry in the list and then press u(),>
r(DEL-A), then qto delete all entries in that
list. Repeat for each list containing data. Press u(>)
to return to original menu options.
2. When all lists are cleared, title each column using the
labels from the table. Press Bto scroll to the SUB
row. Then press La(A-LOCK) to activate
Alpha-lock. Using the red letters at the top right of
each key, type the titles. Press lafter typing each
title. Only 6 characters may be used for each title.
Press $ B and repeat these steps for the second
column.
3. Press !to highlight the first entry in List 1 and enter
the numbers for week from the table above. Press
lafter each entry.
4. Scroll to the right by pressing $to get to the next list.
Enter each height into List 2. Press lafter each entry.
(1b) How to graph a scatterplot using the Casio fx-9860GII
Use the same data:

1. Enter the bivariate data into the two lists, as shown in
the last section.
2. Press q(GRPH). (If qis TOOL instead of GRPH,
press u(>) first.)
3. Press u(SET). Scroll down to highlight Graph Type
and press q(Scat). Scroll down to XList, YList,
Frequency, and Mark Type, if necessary, to change to
the settings pictured on the right. Press dto return
to the previous screen.
4. Press r(SEL). Only StatGraph1 should be turned on.
If necessary, highlight the desired StatGraph and press
q(On) or w(Off) to change.
5. Press
u(DRAW).

(1b) How to determine “r” using the Casio fx-9860GII

(1c) How to enter recursive data into a table using the Casio fx-9860GII
Coen decides to take a job with a company that sells magazine subscriptions. He is paid $20
to start selling and then earns $1.50 for each subscription he sells. Limit your list to 50
entries.

1. From the main menu, highlight the RECUR icon
and press l.
2. When the screen to the right appears, press e(TYPE),
then q(an).
3. Fill in the recursive formula, 1.5n + 20, by pressing
1.5q(n)+20l.
4. Highlight an. Press y(SET). Set Start at 0 and End at
50, pressing
lafter each entry.
5. Press
dto return to the previous screen.

6. Press u(TABL).

Coen decides to take a job with a company that sells magazine subscriptions. He is paid $20

How much does Coen earn if he sells 100 magazine subscriptions?
1. Enter the recursive data into a table, as shown two
sections above. Set the table to include the
prediction, 100 subscriptions. For example, start at 0
and end at 100. Scroll down the column to 100. The
second column, an, contains the answer to the question.

(3b) How to enter data into a spreadsheet using the Casio fx-9860GII

Above is the spreadsheet in which students are to record the data. Following are the steps
to record the data to a calculator spreadsheet.

1. From the main menu, highlight the S•SHT icon
and press l.
2. Data for the first two columns can be transferred from
the CBL equipment according to the directions of the
CBL or can be entered manually. Press lafter each
entry.
3. Highlight cell C2, as shown on the right.
4. Each cell in column C will give the difference of each
consecutive pair of entries in column B. Enter the
formula to compute the difference of cell B2 and cell B1
by pressing
L.ag2-ag1l.
5. Highlight cell C2 and press w(EDIT), w(COPY), then
move the cursor to cell C3 and press q(PASTE). Scroll
down to C4 and press q(PASTE). Continue through the
entire column.

6. Highlight the cell D2, as shown on the right. Press d
twice.
7. Each cell in column D is the ratio of each consecutive
pair of entries in column B. Start by entering the
formula to compute the ratio of cell B2 to cell B1.

8. Highlight cell D2 and press w(EDIT), w(COPY), then
move the cursor to cell D3 and press q(PASTE). Scroll
down to D4 and press q(PASTE). Continue through the
entire column.
(3b) How to construct a graph from spreadsheet data using the Casio fx-9860GII
1. Using the spreadsheet from the last section, press
duntil the screen on the right appears.
2. Press
u(), choose q(GRPH).

3. Press u(SET). Set Graph Type to be Scatter by
pressing N, then q(Scat). Use the keypad and q(:)
to set the XCellRange to include all of the column A cells,
and the YCellRange to include all of the column B cells.
