BasicSetup

WiMAXtechnologydoesnotrequirelineofsighttothetower,howevertoachievemaximumperformanceand
reliabilityyouareencouragedtoplacethemodeminalocationthatbestfacesthetower.

ThefollowingoutlinesthestepsforconnectingacomputerandphonetoyourindoorWiMAXmodem.




1. ConnectthesuppliedEthernetcableintotheEthernetportofthecomputer.Optionallyyoucanconnect
thistoaswitchorhub.
2. ConnecttheotherendoftheEthernetcableintoEthernetportonthebackoftheWiMAXCPEunit.
3. ConnectthesuppliedpowercordintotheACpoweradapter.
4. ConnectthepoweradaptertotheACpowerconnectoronthebackoftheWiMAXCPEunit.
5. PlugthepowercordintoanACoutlet.Themodemwillpowerupandstartscanningandconnecttothe
service.


ThefollowingstepsarefortheuserswhohavesubscribedtoCCI’sVoIPservice.Forthisyouwillrequire
basictelephone.

6. Usingthecablethatcamewithyourphone,connectitdirectlyintophoneport1onthebackoftheWiMAX
modem.
7. Option:ifyouhavesubscribedtotwoVoIPline,thenyouwillneedtoconnectaseparatephoneintoport2
onthebackoftheWiMAXmodem.

Note:PleaseproceedtoInsideTelephoneWiringifyouwouldliketoconnectthephoneportfromthebackof
theWiMAXmodemtoyourinsidehousewiring.

Oncethedevicehasbeenproperlyconnectedand
poweredup,theLEDsonthefrontoftheWiMAX
modemwillbeginflashing.Thistemporaryflashing
istheprocesswheretheWiMAXmodemis
attemptingtosynchronizetotheWiMAXtower.
Oncethisflashingiscompleted,theLEDswillstay
solid.ThetotalnumberofsolidlitLEDsindicates
yoursignalstrengthtotheWiMAXtower.




InsideTelephoneWiring

Mosthomeshavetheirtelephoneswiredintwoschemes.Oneisthestarconfigurationwhicheverywall/phone
jackinthehouseiswiredbacktoacentralpointtypicallycalledaterminalblock.Thisterminalblockisusually
locatednearyourutilitypanel.Thisterminalblockalsoconnectstotheoutsidewirescomingfromthe
traditionaltelephonecompany.Thisterminalblockbridgesallthewirestogetherallowingmultiplephonesto
usethesinglephoneline.






Anothervariationofinsidewiringisthedaisychainapproach.Wherethesinglephonelinecomesintothehome
andiswiredtoawall/phonejack.Subsequentjacksarewiredfromthatwall/phonejackinaseriescalledthe
daisychain.




IfyouwouldliketoutilizetheinsidehousewiringfortheVoIPservicetoconnecttomultiplephones,then
pleasefollowthefollowingstepsclosely.Theexampleshownbelowisusingastarconfiguration;howeverthe
sameprocesswouldapplyinadaisychainwiringconfiguration.




1. Locatewheretheoutsidephonelinecomesintothehouse/premise.Thephoneisapairofcablestypically
greenandredincolor.Pleasedisconnectthispairofwiresfromtheterminalblockbeforeproceeding.
2. Usingasimplephonecable,connecttheoneendtoPort1onthebackoftheWiMAXmodem.Theother
endofthecablecanbeconnecteddirectlyintoawall/phonejack.


3. Optional:ifyouwouldliketohaveaphonelocatedatthiswall/phonejack,youwillneedtouseaSplitter/T‐
Connector.Themaleendwillconnecttothewall/phonejack,whilethetwofemaleconnectorsonthe
splittercanbeusedtoconnectatelephoneandthesecondcanbeconnectedtotheWiMAXmodem’sport
1.Youshouldalsoconnectnomorethan4telephonestoasingleport.
4. Optional:ifyouwouldlikethephonetobelocatedbytheWiMAXmodem,thenusetheSplitter/T‐
ConnectorattheWiMAXmodem.ConnectingthemaleendoftheSplitter/T‐Connectorintoport1onthe
backoftheWiMAXmodem,whilethetwofemaleconnectorsonthesplittercanbeusedtoconnecttothe
telephoneandthesecondcanbeconnectedtothewall/phonejack.Youshouldalsoconnectnomorethan
4telephonestoasingleport.


Note:Becauseyouaredealingwithanoutsidelinethatcanbepotentiallystillcarryingvoltage,donot
connecttheWiMAXmodem’sphoneportintoyourinsidehousewiringuntilyouhavedisconnectedtheline
comingintothehousefromthetelephonecompanyasdescribedinstep1.ConnectingtheWiMAXmodem’s
phoneporttotheinsidewiringwhichmightstillhavealivetelephonesignalonitmaycauseproblemsand
canpotentiallyharmtheWiMAXmodem.Ifyouarenotcomfortabledoingtheworkyourself,pleasecontact
ourCustomerCareforyouroptions.

