Congratulations on your purchase of Century Helicopter Product's scale RC Robinson R22HP
helicopter model. Our helicopters that are simpler to build, easier to see and look fantastic.
Whether you are just beginning in helicopters, wanting to start in scale or an accomplished
pilot, Century offers a wide selection of helicopters to fulfill your dreams in scale. Century has
combined their world class helicopter mechanics with awesome fiberglass fuselages designed to
mount directly inside with little or no modifications.
Warning
This radio controlled model is not a toy! It is a precision machine requiring proper assembly and
setup to avoid accidents. It is the responsibility of the owner to operate this product in a safe manner
as it can inflict serious injury. It is recommended that if you are in doubt of your abilities, seek
assistance from experienced radio control helicopter modelers and associations. As the manu-
facturer, we assume no liability for the use of this product.
Pre-assembly Information
Upon opening the kit, all the major component parts are packaged in bags to correspond to
specific sections of the manual, greatly facilitating assembly. Various assemblies have been pre-
assembled, only requiring the final assembly and installation of the various sub-assemblies. The
screws and nuts required for each step are packaged in the same bag as the parts for that step. Be
careful not to lose any of the hardware when opening each bag. Care has been taken in filling and
packing of each bag. However mistakes do happen, if there is a parts shortage or any hardware
missing, please feel free to contact us at:

This manual has been written for Century’s 50 size Robinson 22HP scale helicopter. This
manual should be reviewed before starting the assembly as there are a few complicated sections to
attach the various fiberglass components to the mechanics.

Every attempt has been made to ease the assembly of your helicopter, at each step where there are
complex assemblies, there are detailed drawings, photos and written instructions to walk you
through each step. Remember to take a few minutes before each step to carefully examine the
instructions in order to become familiar with the parts and assembly sequence before beginning that
step.

UsinganavailableM3x12ButtonHeadScrew,
insertapproximately halfthelengthof thescrew
toformthreadsinto the smaller,taperedendsof
thecontrolarmsandthecontrol arm stand-offs.
AssemblePushrodA(115mmCenter to
Center)andpressoneball link end (withbend
inrod)onto each doublestuddedsteelball,
makingsurethatpressureisappliedfrom the
sideofthe balllinkwiththeCenturyname. All
balllinksaredesignedtobe installed in one
directiononly.Whileholdingoneflybarcontrol
arm,startthreadingthedoublestudded steel
ball. Whenit becomesdifficulttoturnwith
fingers,startthecontrolarm stand-off and usea
flatscrewdrivetoturntheslotintheend.
Completethesecondflybarcontrolarm.
Step6 Flybar &FlybarPaddleAssembly
SlideandcentertheFlybar through the seesawarm assembly. CarefullylookattheFlybarControlArm andnotice that
wheninstalledcorrectly, thesecuring set screw ison top. Insertone 4x6x0.5 washeragainst each bearingthentheflybar
controlarm.Insert one M3x12 ButtonHead SocketScrew intoeach FlybarControlArm,securingtheassembly
together,thetaperedstandoffneedstobeheldwithplierswhiletighteningthebuttonheadscrew.Looselytightenthe
M4x5SetScrewsintotheround aluminum inserts. Using a ruler,checkthedistance between the end of theflybar and
thecontrolarmand adjust until thelengths arethe same.Remove eachM4x5 SetScrew andlocktight inplace overthe
flatspotsontheflybar.Slide the FlybarWeight (Tip:the flatend ofthe weight touchesthe paddle)and thread onthe
FlybarPaddleuntilallthethreadsarecoveredontotheflybarandalign the paddles parallel. Again using the ruler,rotate
onepaddleor the other toget equaldistances, rememberleading
edgeof the paddles turnclockwise.Remove one set screw
ata time, applythreadlock (Tip1)
andtighten inplace.Usingtwo

attachedontheleftwheninstalled later on the main shaft. Pressthe radius link onto the innershort balls on the
swashplate.

Inserttheshaft through the CounterGear (make sure thepin isfully seatedin therecessedsideofthe gear ) thenslide
thetwoM5x13 Ball Bearings.SlidetwoM5x7x2 spacersonto the shaft andslide theAlloy Drive Gear ontothe shaft
(similarlyforaddedstrength,threadlockcanbeappliedbetweenthetopoftheshaftandthedrivegear)aligningtheflat
spotontheshaft.Insertone M4x4 set screw (Tip1)intotheAlloy DriveGear and tightenin place usingthreadlock.
Testfit the gear assembly into one half of the upper
sideframes. Whileholding the piniongear,try to slide
thecounter gear upanddown on theshaft. Thegear
shouldnotslide up the shaft,if itdoes,readjustthetop
piniontoremovethe slop and re-tightenthe set screw
usingthreadlock. Itisimportantthatthereis no free
playbutthebearings are turning freely when as-
sembled.Asmallamount of red locktight can be
appliedto lock thetopof the countershaftto the
piniongear, but donot use onanyset screws.

Atthistimepreparetheservosbyinstallingtherubbergrommetsprovidedwiththeradiosystem. Waittoinstall
thebrasseyeletsuntiltheorientationtomounttheservo is known. The eyelets have a flange that shouldface the surface
thatthe servoflangeisbeingmountedagainst.

rearmostupperholeintherightside of the mechanics. Slide the second mount plate
ontothescrew from theleftandsecure using oneM3 locknut.InsertoneM3x35 socket screwthroughtherudder
mount,theninto the rear-mostlower holeand secure withone M3locknut fromtheotherside.Insert one M3x12
socketcapscrew through the fronthole inthe ccpmservo mountwiththeknotchkeyed to the upperside frames,slide
threeM3x7flatwasherstheninsertthrough the upper side frames,securing with one M3locknut. Insert one M3x35
socketcapscrewthroughthe frontmost upperhole inthe tail boomclamps, then throughthe center holeof the ccpm
servomountandinsertsecure with one locknut onthe other side.Attachthetailboomclamps using four M3x8 socket
screwsinsertedinto the top holesof themountsusingthreadlock.The M3x35 socketscrews atthe lowerpositioncan
beinsertedbutshouldbe left loose. Install the cabinmounts by threadingthe M3x40 threadedrod into onecabin mount
thenthreadingthrough themechanicsandattachingtheothermount throughthelowerforwardmosthole. Installonly,do
notthreadlockinplace until after the cabin ismounted.

the threads (Tip 1) on the crankshaft,
engine nut and the clutch, carefully
apply threadlock on the engine
crankshaft threads nearest the
bearing (be careful not to get thread-
lock into the ball bearings) and on the
threads in the clutch. Thread the
clutch until the crankshaft can be
seen and insert the fan keying it to the
clutch. Wrap a cloth over the fan
(provides grip to the fan without
breaking the fins) and tighten until the
clutch stops, torque an additional 1/16
of a turn. Using a Piston Lock
[CN2155 Optional Part] makes this
easier. Secure the fan by placing one
6.5x13mm Washer and apply a liberal
amount of threadlock to secure the
nut that came with the engine from
the inside of the fan assembly. Again
only torque the nut 1/16th more.

Secure the engine assembly on to the engine mount
(make sure the mount is installed with the engine
mount holes closest to the bottom of the engine, notice
it is recessed for the crankcase) using four 3x16mm
Socket Cap Screws using threadlock. The throttle
extension included will not work if using the optional
CN3059 Scale Muffler. It is necessary to purchase the
optional CN2153 throttle extension is to fit the throttle
linkage behind the muffer. If another muffler
is use, then the throttle extension provided
by the manufacturer will work. Remember
to set the carburator travel to get equal
through from full power to idle, leaving
another 10 percent to shut down the
engine.
During final assembly wipe all
traces of oil or grease from the
inside surface of the clutch
lining. Any grease here can
cause a meltdown.

Grease to be used inside the tail gearbox should be a teflon or light lithium type of grease commonly
found in a hobbyshop. Do not use grease or any type of lubricant on the remaining gears on the
helicopter because they are exposed and can actually attract dirt and debris that can lead to a
failure.

Slidetheswashplateoverthe main shaft. Slidethe nylon sleeveover the M3x15socket cap screwand insertit through
theanti-rotationbracketto the extra holein thefront ofthe swashplateand secureinplaceusingthreadlock.Do not
overtightenthisscrewasitwilldeformthenylonsleeve.Nextslidethewashoutassembly (makesurethepivotscrewis
positionedontheleftsideofthemain shaft) onto the main shaft andattach the radius arms (alsonotethatwhenproperly
installedthenumber1is on the insideof the radiusarm) tothe short steelballs on theinside raceof the swashplate.
Slidetheradiusguideontothemainshaftandaligntotheslots in the washout unit. Insert the M3x4 set screwinto only
onesideofthe washout guide but doNOT tightenat thistime. This willbe tightenedafter the rotorhead hasbeen
installedbecausethe exact position ofthe guidedepends ontherotorhead.

RadioSetup Procedure
1.Itis best to choosea newmodelmemory(ifavailable) and usethe Resetfeature toremoveanyprevioussettings or
mixes,rememberthisusuallyalsoreturns theradioconfigurationto singleservo.
2.Locateandactivatetheswashplate mixing for 1200ccpm(mostmanufacturerssetradios to single servo version by
defaultandwhen the data resetfeature isused).
3.Returnboththeaileronandelevatorsubtrimstoneutralalongwithanyhoverpitchknobstoneutral.
4.Adjust the servo reversingswitch tomake surethe servosare movingin thecorrect direction,together asthe collec-
tivestickis raised. If theservoreversingdoes not correctthemovementof a servo, thereisalwaysa travel adjust-
mentfunctioninside the swashplate mixingmenu. Changethedefaultsettingtobeopposite,forexample, if setto
+60then change to-60 and changeanyservos that areaffected.
5.After eachservohornis mounted, itiscriticalthat the hornbe90degrees to therespective pushrod.
