Ceramicx HERSCHEL ADVANTAGEPULSAR APW/0416 User manual

ORIGINAL INSTALLATION & OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The Pulsar consists of 4 highly emissive ceramic heating elements contained within a coated mild steel housing. It is designed to gently
warm people using infrared heat.
Infrared Heat is a 100% natural radiating heat that humans readily absorb, producing a feeling of great comfort and well-being. Infrared
Heat produced from the Pulsar warms you directly without heating the air in between, meaning the heat goes where you want it to and
doesn’t disappear on the next pu of wind.
CAUTION:
The Pulsar rises to very high temperatures in use and the unit must not be touched when power is applied. After switch o the surface
temperature will remain hot for a considerable time and the unit should not be touched within 30 minutes minimum after heater has been
switched o.
Please attach the supplied notice (CAUTION DO NOT TOUCH HEATER) to the wall near the heater or in a location where it can easily be seen.
Never use the heater to ignite materials.
Particular attention has to be given where children and vulnerable people are present. The Pulsar is not to be used by children or persons with
reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, unless they have been given instruction or are under
supervision. Children of less than 3 years should be kept away unless continuously supervised. Children should be supervised to ensure they
do not play with the appliance.
Children aged from 3 years and less than 8 years shall only switch on/o the appliance provided that it has been placed or installed in its
intended normal operating position and they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and
understand the hazards involved. Children aged from 3 years and less than 8 years shall not plug in, regulate and clean the appliance or
perform user maintenance.
To avoid a re hazard, do not cover the heater in any manner and ensure there is adequate air circulation around the heater. The Appliance
shall, under no circumstances, be covered with insulating material or similar material.
The heater must not be used if the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly
qualied persons in order to avoid a hazard.
WARNING:
This heater is not equipped with a device to control the room temperature. Do not use this heater in small rooms when they are occupied by
persons not capable of leaving the room on their own, unless constant supervision is provided.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Please read the following information fully, as safe and reliable operation depends on correct installation. Please keep this instruction sheet
for future reference.
The AC mains supply is dangerous and potentially lethal. Ensure the mains supply is switched o at the consumer unit (fuse box) before
attempting any work on electrical circuits. Wiring to this unit must be connected in accordance with the relevant national electrical safety
standards. This unit must only be installed by a competent and qualied electrician. This appliance must be earthed.
Do not disassemble : no user-serviceable parts inside.
ELECTRICAL INFORMATION:
The electrical supply to the unit should be provided by connecting to a circuit, which is protected by a fuse or miniature circuit breaker
suitable for the electrical rating of the unit and in accordance with Table 1. The supply to the heater must be switched separately using a
switch appropriately rated for the load and supply voltage. A switched fused spur may also be used on existing ring main circuits where the

load current is less than 13A. In both cases, the switch must be double pole (disconnecting both live and neutral conductors) and form part
of the xed wiring in the installation in accordance with applicable wiring regulations. The spur fuse should also be rated in accordance with
the appropriate table. In either case the switch used to operate the Pulsar must be readily accessible.
The cable used to connect to the existing wiring should be correctly rated solid core wiring cable. Please note that the use of exible appliance
cable with stranded conductors for permanent wiring (except for the nal connection between a cable outlet and the xed equipment) is
prohibited by IEE wiring regulations. Where applicable, these regulations preclude the use of a 13A plug and socket for powering the Pulsar.
For the nal connection to the Pulsar, only the exible cable and cable entry supplied with the unit must be used. The cable must connect to
the supply in a suitable enclosure or cable outlet designed for that purpose. The cable outlet current carrying capacity must be greater than
the recommended fuse current rating given in Table 1.
Suitable conduit or mechanical protection must be used through the wall to protect the cable from mechanical damage within the wall. The
mounting position of the unit must ensure that any mechanical damage to the exible cable is unlikely. If physical damage to the cable is
possible, suitable conduit protection must be provided. Fixed wiring must be protected.
Install heater so cable cannot make contact with the top surface of the heater. Any exposed exible cable must have adequate clearance from
the heater to prevent scorching or damaging the cable.
The BROWN wire is to be connected to LIVE (‘L’), the BLUE wire to NEUTRAL (‘N’) and the GREEN/YELLOW wire to EARTH (‘E’).
MOUNTING POSITION:
The Pulsar must be located in a position to allow for proper and ecient use but one that ensures hot parts are not touched accidentally.
When mounted the Pulsar should be at a height at which it can not be touched when in operation.
The recommended height for mounting is 3.00m to 4.00m (118”-157.5”) between ground level and the lowest point of the heater.
The Herschel Pulsar MUST NOT be installed at a height of less than 3.00m (118”). Heater must not be located immediately below a socket
outlet. Joists, beams and rafters shall not be cut or notched to install the appliance.
The distance between the sides of the heater and the sides and any adjacent ceiling recessed heater shall not be less than four times the
minimum distance specied for the distance between the sides of the heater and any building element adjacent to it.
Consideration should be given to any temporary or occasional additions such as stages or platforms, and the height should be adjusted
accordingly. The Pulsar should be rmly and permanently attached to a solid surface with a minimum clearance of 0.60m (23.6”) from top
surface of heater and ceiling .
The identication mark and model reference should be visible after installation.
Note : Mounting plate and supporting chain are not supplied with this heater. It is the installers responsibility to ensure that a suitable
bracket and chain capable of supporting the weight of the heater (28kg.) are used. Check that the mains supply is switched o, and then
provide the mains supply connection to the Pulsar using the specications supplied.

GUARANTEE:
The Pulsar is guaranteed against failure due to faulty materials or workmanship for two years from date of purchase. In the unlikely event
of failure of the unit within this time, the unit must be returned to the supplier for repair or replacement. The Pulsar contains no customer
usable parts. The guarantee is invalid if the correct installation instructions as given in this leaet have not been adhered to.
USER MAINTENANCE:
The Pulsar is maintenance free but to maintain appearance it should occasionally be cleaned all over with a soft dry cloth. No abrasive cloths
or cleaners should be used and appliances such as pressure washers, steam cleaners, etc, should never be used. Cleaning should only be done
when the unit is cold and switched o. All personnel cleaning and maintaining the unit must have suitable training and information to carry
out the operation safely. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.

BEFORE USE:
Ensure protective aluminium grill is free of ngerprints and other contamination before turning on heater for the rst time. Handling of the
grill can lead to the aluminium to discolour when in use.
INITIAL USE:
There may be an odour or vapour from the heater on initial use or if heater has not been used for an extended period. This is normal and is a
result of a build up of dust.
