CP2000-M/MR Ballast Replacement
Instruction Sheet
INTRODUCTION
Use the following instructions when replacing the ballast in CP2000-M/MR (119-001101-xx/119-
002103-xx) projectors. The entire procedure takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
SAFETY AND WARNING GUIDELINES
HIGH VOLTAGES MAY BE EXPOSED! Always power down and
disconnect power sources prior to servicing. Once the projector is powered down, allow
the cooling fans to automatically turn OFF before disconnecting from AC and opening
the projector. Depending on your projector model this can take 10-15 minutes.
QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNICIANS REQUIRED! All module replacement
procedures must be performed by qualified service technicians.
NON-INSULATED DANGEROUS VOLTAGES MAY BE EXPOSED! Always
disconnect from AC prior to disassembly.
OBSERVE ALL ELECTROSTATIC PRECAUTIONS! Use a grounded wrist
strap when handling electronic assemblies.
Never operate the projector or the fans) without all the covers installed.

INSTRUCTIONS
Lamp replacement must be performed by Christie trained personnel
only. EXPLOSION HAZARD! Wear authorized Christie protective clothing P/N: 58-
8900-095) whenever the lamp door is open and when handling the lamp. Never apply a
twisting or bending forces to the quartz lamp body. Use the correct wattage lamp
supplied by Christie. Ensure those within the facility of the projector are also wearing
protective safety clothing. Never attempt to remove the lamp when it is hot. The lamp
is under a great deal of pressure when hot and may explode, causing personal injury or
death, and/or property damage. Allow the lamp to cool completely before handling.

1. Ensure power to the projector is OFF.
2. Remove the lamp:
a. Press Lamp OFF from the
CDP to turn the lamp
OFF. Allow the cooling
fans to run for at least 15
minutes to allow the lamp
to sufficiently cool before
handling.
b. When the cooling fans
stop turn the projector’s
main switch to OFF and
unplug. Always power
down and unplug the pro-
jector prior to servicing.
Allow the lamp to cool
before handling.
c. Wearing protective cloth-
ing and a face shield
unlock the rear access
door. NOTE: The safety
interlock switch on the
rear access door turns
lamp power OFF and
prevents it from being
turned ON when the door is open. The interlock wiring connects directly to the ballast.
WARNING! DO NOT place heavy objects on the open rear access door.
d. Manually turn the two thumbscrews on the internal lamp door counter-clockwise to access the
lamp compartment.
e. Using a #3 Phillips
™
, loosen the nut securing the anode wire (Figure 1/D).
f. Remove the two captive screws securing the lamp anode cover (Figure 1/C) and remove the
cover.
g. Using a #3 Phillips
™
, unscrew the ballast wire nut (Figure 1/I).
h. Loosen the cathode screw (Figure 1/E) using the hex key, mounted to the inside of the rear
access door.

i. Holding the lamp from the anode end, carefully unscrew and remove the cathode nut
(Figure 1/F).
j. Holding the lamp from the anode end, carefully slide the lamp out ensuring not to make con-
tact with the reflector (Figure 1/A). With your free hand to help guide the cathode end out of
the reflector, on an angle.
k. Before placing the old lamp into its protective case ensure the cathode nut is reinstalled. Place
the lamp, within its case, on the floor where it cannot fall or be bumped. WARNING! Han-
dle box with extreme caution - the lamp is hazardous even when packaged. Dis-
pose of the lamp box according to local area safety regulations.
l. With the lamp removed, visually inspect the reflector for dust. If necessary, clean the reflector.
3. Remove the top lid:
a. Using a #2 Phillips
™
, loosen the seven captive screws
securing the lid to the projector housing. (Figure 2)
b. Unlock the rear access door.
c. Lift the lid up from the rear of the projector and pull it
away from the two tabs on the front cover.
4. Remove safety shield: Loosen the three thumbscrews from
the safety shield and remove.
5. Remove the lamp blower assembly:
a. Disconnect the two lamp blower harnesses. When dis-
connecting ensure the center tab on the harness is
pressed down before pulling out. Improperly discon-
necting could cause the actual harness connectors to
come loose. if this occurs insert the connector on an
angle (Figure 3/1), use a slotted screwdriver to force
the opposite edge into the structure (Figure 3/2)and manually push it into the center structure
(Figure 3/3).

b. Using a #2 Phillips
™
screwdriver, loosen the two captive screws on the top of the unit (Figure
4) and one on the bottom near the lamp adjuster assembly (not shown).
c. Carefully, lift the blower out of the projector housing.
6. Disconnect the AC power harness by pushing in on the clip. (Figure 5)
7. Disconnect the Ballast Communication harness by removing the two retaining screws and pulling
up (Figure 6).

8. Using a #3 Phillips
™
, remove the five captive screws securing the ballast to the housing. Three
screws are located along the front edge of the ballast, another in the back-left corner and the front-
right corner. NOTE: To access the screws on the left-side close the lamp door.

9. Pull the ballast out of the projector housing.
10. When installing a new ballast, repeat instructions in reverse. Follow the instructions provided for
replacing the lamp.
