<Easy Access - Easy Operation>
The p inte is designed fo all day-to-day ope ations to be accessible f om the f ont of the
p inte so the e is no need to move items nea to the p inte fo access fo media loading.
<Hi-OpenTM printer case>
The main p inte ’s case lifts di ectly upwa ds meaning that no space is needed on eithe side of
the p inte . The powe switch is located in a ecessed panel at the f ont of the p inte so it can
be easily accessed without moving the p inte .
<The Easiest Media Loadin >
The Hi-LiftTM metal p int head mechanism opens so that it is completely clea of the media path
so that the pape and ibbons can be loaded without any pa t of the p inte in the way.
<Easy Printer Control and Confi uration>
The clea , easy-to-see backlit LCD makes both configu ation and ope ation easy with simple
messages about the p inte ’s status and also the ability fo quick configu ation when needed.
<Flexible Media Usa e>
The p inte featu es an adjustable media senso which allows the custome to use any type of
media. The media (label) olls can be inside o outside would. Simila ly, the ink ibbon can be
wound eithe way: ‘ink in’ o ‘in out’.
<Optimum Ribbon Tension>
The patented ARCPTM function - Active Ribbon Cont ol and Positioning - maintains even ibbon
tension f om beginning to end of a ibbon. This eliminates ibbon w inkle and imp oves p int
positioning, especially fo small labels. Smudging caused by ibbon slippage is also emoved.
<Dual Pro rammin Lan ua e>
This p inte contains both the Datamax and Zeb a emulations. By using the keys on the ope ation
panel, it is easy to simply switch between the two emulations to un you p og am.
<Interfaces and Options>
Pa allel, Se ial and USB inte faces a e supplied as standa d and optional Ethe net and Wi eless
LAN boa ds can be fitted quickly and easily. An auto-cutte and peele option is also available
and can be easily installed.

Never perform the following. If not avoided, these may cause damage or trouble to the
printer or cause the printer to overheat and release smoke and cause burns or an electrical
shock. If the printer is damaged or is malfunctioning, be sure to turn the printer off
immediately and remove the power cord from the outlet, then consult our service
personnel.

•When cleaning the su face of the p inte case, do not use the cloth that is soaked in thinne ,

•Do not jolt o impact to the p inte by stepping on, d opping o hitting the p inte .
•Ope ate the cont ol panel p ope ly. A ca eless, ough handling may cause p oblems o malfunction.

•Be ca eful of the edges of the plates so inju y o p ope ty damage is possible.
•If a p oblem occu s du ing p inting, stop the p inte immediately and unplug the powe co d f om
the outlet.

•Avoid plugging the powe co d into an outlet with many loads.
•Do not bundle the powe co d when inse ting the plug.

Confirmation of Carton Contents
Note: The empty ca ton and packing mate ials should be sto ed fo futu e
shipping of the p inte .
Removin the Packin Material
The p inte is shipped with adhesive tape in place to hold the top cove
closed. Simply emove the two pieces of tape on eithe side of the top cove .
Then simply open the cove by lifting up and tipping it backwa ds.
The e is anothe st ip of adhesive tape that must be emoved which holds
the mechanism closed fo shipping. Remove the tape and attached pape by
ca efully peeling f om the plastic case.
Retain the tape should you need to t anspo t the p inte again. A fu the
piece of packing pape is inside the mechanism and you can emove this
when the head is opened as explained late in the manual.

1Thermal printhead
This is the p inthead. Avoid touching this with you finge tips and leaving
g ease o di t on the p inthead su face.
2Sensor arm
The media can be installed by aising this a m.
The media can be held in place by lowe ing this a m.
3Adjustable (rear) sensor
Detects the label o tag position. This senso is switched “on” by default.
4Fixed media sensor
Alte native method to detect the label o tag position. This senso is
mo e accu ate fo small labels as it is close to the p int head. It is switch
“off” by default.
5Left media uide
This is a fixed pa t of the p inte . The left side of the media (labels, tags)
as viewed f om the f om of the p inte should be placed against this
media guide.
6Ri ht, movable media uide
Slide the ight media guide so that it just touches the media. It should
“guide” the media th ough the p inte . It should not hold it firmly
othe wise the media will jam.
7Platen
Inte locked with the the mal p inthead, it feeds media backwa ds o
fo wa ds.
8Adjustable sensor position knob
This is used to change the left-to- ight position of the adjustable media
senso ac oss the media. See Chapte 3, P inte Adjustments fo mo e
details.

Connection to Power
1. The power switch is located on the front of the printer recessed
below the control panel. Check that the power switch is turned
OFF.
2. Insert the power cord in to the inlet on the printer.
3. Insert the plug of the power cord in the AC outlet.
Caution
Use an AC outlet that accepts a th ee-p onged plug. Othe wise, static
elect icity may be gene ated and the e will be dange of elect ic shock.

Driver Installation
The compute may automatically detect the p esence of the new p inte when
it is fi st sta ted, depending on the compute type, inte face and ope ating
system. Follow any on-sc een inst uction and also inst uctions supplied with
any additional CD-ROM o floppy disk included with you p inte .
You supplie will assist you with the co ect d ive s and softwa e which a e
compatible with you pa ticula compute system.

Connection to a Computer
This p oduct has th ee inte faces that can be used to eceive p inting data: a
se ial po t (RS232C), pa allel po t (IEEE1284, Non-L. P. S.), and a USB po t
(USB1.1). An optional inte nal netwo k inte face can be added by you
deale .
To connect the cable, p oceed as follows:
1. Turn OFF both power switches of the printer and the computer.
2. Connect one end of the interface cable to the interface
connector on the back of the printer and secure it with locks or
locking screws, where available.
3. Connect the other end of the interface cable to the interface
connector on the computer and secure it with locks or locking
screws, where available.

Printer Operation
Power ON/OFF
Turning on the power
1. The power switch is conveniently located at the front of the
printer for easy access during normal operation. It is in the recess
underneath the control panel so it cannot be accidentally
operated by mistake.
2. The POW R L D is lit.

1PAUSE key: Temporarily pauses printing
• When this key is pushed once, the LCD indicates Pause and the printer
temporarily pauses.
• When it is pushed during printing, the printer pauses after the label
currently being printed is issued. Pressing the key a second time sets
the printer On Line Ready state and prints the remaining data
received.
2FEE key: Feeds media
• Pressing this key feeds media to the print start position. The distance
it is fed is determined by automatically detecting the front end of the
media when using label media, and when continuous media has been
designated, a fixed quantity is fed, then feeding stops.
• When the TEAR OFF setting is effective, feeding stops when the media
has been fed to the TEAR OFF location.
• When the optional cutter unit is installed, the media is fed to the cut
position then it is cut.
When the function select is set to Cut On and the cutter unit is
installed, the media is cut each time it is fed.
• If the optional peeler unit is installed, the media is fed to the peeling
location. When the media is pausing at the peeling position, feeding
does not occur, even if the FEED key is pushed.
3STOP key: It stops printing and cancels the alarm
Pushing this key once during printing puts the printer in pause mode
after the label is issued. It is possible to cancel 1 batch of label issuing
data by pressing the STOP key for 4 seconds or longer in pause status.
(The LCD indicates Job Clear during cancel.)
4MENU key:
In normal operation, this key will enter the menu configuration mode.
It can be configured to repeat the previous label, if preferred.
Normal Operating Mode
When the power is turned on, the printer enters normal operating mode.
The control keys activate the following functions.

MENU
PAUSE
