ColleBuilt SD-70 Auxiliary Battery System
Revised 9-6-16
Thank you for purchasing a ColleBuilt Auxiliary Battery System! By installing this
system, you are providing the main power source of the vehicle (the battery) with an
auxiliary battery power source. The system uses the vehicles factory charging system
and safely charges an auxiliary battery once the vehicle is started and adequate
charging voltage is present. When there are no charging sources present (vehicle off or
a charging system failure) the system will isolate the auxiliary battery to prevent vehicle
loads from drawing power from it. Provided in the kit is a manual activation switch that
can be used at the operators discretion to link the auxiliary battery into the system at
any time.
WARNING
Read the instruction manual provided with the products and install
them following all guidelines. Follow the maintenance guidelines as
instructed in the installation instructions as well as this notification
form. If a back-up system is not properly installed into the modified
vehicle and maintenance guidelines are not met, it could result in
serious injury and/or death.
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
1. Failure to follow these guidelines will deem all applicable warranties null and
void.
2. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in system failure which could result
in serious injury and/or death.
3. All parts and/or components of the backup system must be installed in the
locations designated herein these instructions. If a location is not designated than
the parts or components must be installed and/or protected in such a way as to
not be exposed to excessive heat, vibration, sharp edges, moving parts, or
weather.
4. All electrical components including but not limited circuit breakers, relays, and
switches must be installed inside the passenger compartment unless otherwise
dictated herein these instructions.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Locate and disconnect the vehicle battery.
2. Find a suitable place to mount the electronic charging isolator, and the auxiliary
battery. Mounting these close to the main battery is preferred because it will
reduce the overall length of the added wiring. If you intend to mount the auxiliary
battery inside the vehicle or in an area that is more protected than under the
hood such as a battery box, you may want to consider placing the charging
isolator with it for the added protection from the elements.
Note: System components must be mounted as far or farther from the
engine, exhaust and any other heat source or moving parts as the OEM
fuse panel and battery that are located in the engine compartment.
3. Make the necessary connections according to the included wiring schematic
starting with the main battery. All ground connections should be made directly to
the vehicles negative battery post on the main battery. All 12V+ connections
should be tied directly to the vehicles positive battery post on the main battery. All
wiring for the solenoid, and charging isolator 12V+ connections should be
equivalent size (gauge) to the factory main battery wire or 4 gauge wire
whichever is larger. Also, the chassis ground wire should be upgraded to match
the main power wire size if it isn’t already matched. The 120A circuit breakers
should be wired within 18” of their respective positive battery posts.
4. The ground supply wire for the charging isolator and solenoid should be 16g.
5. The manual activation switch also has a built in indicator led that will be
illuminated if the system is active. It should be mounted in a location that is both
highly visible to the driver and easy for them to reach and activate while driving
the vehicle. All wiring for the override switch and the visual alarm should be 16g.

Testing Function
1. After installing all of the necessary components it is time to test the function of
the system.
2. With the key off check that both the main and the auxiliary battery have proper
voltage.
3. Start the car and watch the led indicator on the charging isolator. After a short
delay the charging isolator led will turn on indicating that it is allowing alternator
current to flow to the auxiliary battery. Check this by using a voltage meter to
verify auxiliary battery voltage. Turn the engine off and place the key in the
ignition position without starting the vehicle. Wait one minute and ensure that the
led on the charging isolator is off. If this is the case then the charging isolator is
working correctly and it is now time to check override switch function.
4. Allow any surface charge to dissipate and using a voltmeter measure the voltage
of each battery and record the results.
5. With the key in the off position, turn on the vehicles lights manually and using a
volt meter monitor the main battery’s voltage. It should drop steadily as the load
from the light circuit slowly drains power from the main battery. Now monitor the
auxiliary battery voltage. It should stay constant at the previously recorded
voltage and should not drop while the lights are on.
6. With the key still in the off position, activate the override switch inside the vehicle.
At this time the indicator led on the switch should be on. Turn on the vehicles
lights again and check the auxiliary battery’s voltage. It should now be falling at
the same rate as the main battery. If the system does not behave as expected
please contact us for additional assistance.
