1. GENERAL
1.1. Description

1.1.2. Purpose
The SDC/DDC heater is designed for 2 purposes :
- For Diving Bell :
Supplied with hot water between 40°C to 45°C, the S DC/DDC heater is able to
maintain the temperature in bells up to 6m

- For Decompression Chambers :
Supplied with hot water between 65°C to 70°C, the S DC/DDC heater may be
used as main heating unit for small chambers. For bigger chambers, it may be
used as an additional heater or as an emergency heater to meet the most recent
standards.
Supplied with chilled water, it may also be used as an AC unit.

The exchanger coil is a finned tube. The fan forces the gas through the heat
exchanger, where it is heated or cooled by water.
The heater is equipped with brackets for mounting on a bulkhead or other
support.

2. OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The heater has two parts, a heat exchanger and a fan.
The gas is forced through the heat exchanger by the fan. The heat exchanger consists of
a finned tube which is spiral-wound to provide a large exchange surface. Hot water is
circulated through the coiled tube.
3. OPERATION
3.1. Precautionary remarks
The heat output increases with the flow and temperature of the hot water and the
pressure inside the chamber.
The hot water flow rate in the heat exchanger should be at least 8 litres per minute, and
increasing it up to 40 l/min will increase the heat output.
The water temperature should be at least 40°C for Bells and 60°C for DDCs.
Increasing the flow rate to more than 12 l/min will only increase the heat output slightly,
whereas increasing the water temperature will increase it much more.
The greater the depth, the more effective the heat exchanges.
The exchanger is supplied with water though 3/4" BSP nipples. To obtain the best
performances, the water flow and gas flow should be in reverse directions.

3.2. Start-up
When the electrical and water connections have been completed (including pipe leak
tests and careful air removal in pipes), the SDC/DDC heater is started by turning on the
appropriate switch on the electrical control panel. If the fan doesn't turn, reverse
polarity.
4. MAINTENANCE
4.1. Description
This heater was designed to operate with a minimum of servicing : visual inspection,
check of electrical connections and cleaning on a regular basis.
