In the event of notification within the warranty period of defects in material or workmanship, Commtech Wireless will
replace the defective diskettes, documentation and electronic circuitry. The remedy for breach of this warranty shall be
limited to replacement and shall not encompass any other damages, including but not limited to loss of profit, and special,
incidental, consequential, or other similar claims.
Commtech Wireless specifically disclaims all other warranties, expressed or implied, including but not limited to implied
warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose with respect to defects in the documentation and
electronic circuitry, and the program license granted herein, in particular, and without limiting operation of the program

1. ABOUT THE 8-LINE MERCURY
1.1 Features
The Mercury 8-line wall pager is a useful device for a multitude of applications. It can be
used as a mass warning device for natural disasters, critical warnings and other important
information.
It uses a large screen and easy to read LED’s to quickly and efficiently show a user the
message. The device runs off a plug-pack connected to mains power but also contains a
rechargeable battery which means the user can still receive a message, even if the power
goes out.
1.2 About This Handbook
This handbook is designed to assist users with the Mercury 8-Line Pager.
This handbook is set out in a series of easy to follow step by step instructions followed by
a checklist to confirm the steps as outlined. Following the steps and checklists correctly
will ensure that there will be no problems when using the Mercury 8-Line Pager.

2. THE MERCURY 8-LINE PAGER
2.1 Getting Started
2.1.1 Case Layout
The Mercury 8-Line pager has four buttons on its case.

--- Read Key
2.1.2 LCD Screen
The Mercury 8-Line Wall Pager contains a backlit, 8-Line, alphanumeric LCD screen.
Each line is 21 characters long. The screen can also be zoomed to 4 lines giving a larger
font, but fewer characters per line.
2.1.3 LED’s
There are five LED’s on the front panel. The LEDS functions are:
1. Power –Will illuminate when the charger is plugged into the unit
2. Low Battery –Will illuminate when the internal battery voltage becomes low
3. Emergency –Will illuminate when an urgent message is received
4. Out of Range –Will illuminate when the unit detects that it has fallen out of
range. (no carrier detection for some period of time)
5. Message –Will illuminate when there is an unread message waiting
2.1.4 Antenna
The high gain antenna is screwed on to the connector on the side of the product.

2.1.5 Power Socket
The unit contains in internal rechargeable battery. This internal battery is charged via a
mains plug-pack. (Output is 5volts DC unregulated.)
The plug-pack connects into the socket shown below.

3. MERCURY 8-LINE PAGER INSTALLATION
Follow these instructions to install and setup your Mercury Wall Pager.
1. Ensure the unit has been programmed correctly to suit the installation. (see the
programming manual)
2. Screw on the hi-gain antenna onto the side of the unit and ensure it points
upwards.
3. Plug the plug-pack charger into a power outlet nearby. Plug the other connector
on the plug-pack into the Mercury 8-line wall pager.
4. Mount the unit on a wall if required. You will need 2 screws in the wall
horizontally spaced 40mm apart.

4. MERCURY 8-LINE PAGER OPERATION
1. To turn the unit on, press and hold the Read Key , until the unit beeps and the
screen displays the Start-up message.
2. To save power, the LCD screen turns off a few seconds of inactivity.
3. When a message is received, the pager will alert and the message will be displayed
on the unit.
4. The alert can stopped by pressing any key. If the alert is not stopped within the
alert time out period it will be treated as an unread message.
5. To see messages that are stored on the pager, press the Read Key . The most
recent message will be shown. You can scroll through all previous messages using
the Arrow Keys .
6. You can toggle between four and eight line message mode by pressing the Menu
Key .
7. The backlight will automatically turn on when any button is pressed.
8. Once the unit is turned on, there is no way to turn it off unless the charger plug-
pack is disconnected and the internal battery goes flat.

5. APPENDIX
5.1 Precautions
1. This pager contains precision electronic components. Avoid temperature
extremes during use and storage and do not subject it to strong impact.
2. Avoid using the pager in an area where it might come into contact with liquids or
very high humidity.
3. Never try to take the pager apart. Doing so can lead to serious damage and
malfunction.
4. Replace the battery as soon as possible after you notice it getting low. Leaving a
dead battery in the pager can result in damage caused by leaking fluids. The
battery should be removed from the pager if you do not plan to use it for a long
time.
5. Clean the pager by wiping it with a soft dry cloth. You can also use a cloth
moistened with a weak solution of mild neutral detergent and water. Wring as
much liquid as possible from the cloth before wiping the pager. Never use
thinner, benzene, alcohol or other volatile agents to clean the pager.
6. Do not allow the pager to be exposed to direct sunlight, heat from heaters or other
sources of heat (greater than 60°C). Do not leave the pager in a motor vehicle that
is parked in the sun.
7. Never expose batteries to direct sunlight or incinerate them. Doing so may cause
the batteries to explode.
8. Never try to charge batteries or take them apart. Doing so can cause them to leak
fluid.

Should a fault develop with the hardware or software, contact your place of purchase for
the most appropriate form of action. Do not attempt to open or repair any of the products
as this may void any warranty.
