1. Introduction

These operating instructions are part of this product. They contain important notes on commissioning and
handling. Also consider this if you pass on the product to any third party.

3. Intended Use
This product is an electrically powered model helicopter, which is wirelessly controlled with the remote control unit
included in the delivery. The model is designed for operation indoor but may also be used outdoors at totally calm
conditions.Themodelhelicopterispre-assembledandreadytoyandisdeliveredwithbuilt-inremotecontroland
drive components.
The product must not become damp or wet.
The product is not suitable for children under 14 years of age.
Observe all safety information in these operating instructions. They contain important information on han-
dling of the product.
You are solely responsible for safe operation of the model!
4. Product Description
Theready-to-yminihelicopterhasarotorheadwithaxedangleofincidenceforbothmainrotorbladesthatcan-
not be adjusted by remote control. The raising and lowering of the helicopter is solely accomplished by changing the
speed of the main rotor.
The swash plate is controlled via two servos with two linkage points offset by 90°. Targeted yaw and tilting of the
swashplate permitscontinually recurring, direction-dependent(cyclic) blade adjustmentthat permitsying into a
specicdirection.
Stabilisation around the vertical axis (main rotor shaft) is handled by a tail rotor, which also has a stiff angle of attack
and is powered by a separate electric motor. Steering around the yaw axis is achieved by means of different revolu-
tions of the electric motor.
A central electronics PCB below the canopy contains all components that are required for control, steering and
stabilisation of the helicopter. The 2.4 GHz radio remote control installation included in the delivery allows a sensitive
steering of the model.
For operation, 4 mignon batteries (e.g. Conrad item no.: 652506, order 4x) or mignon batteries are required.

6. Safety Information
In case of damage caused by non-compliance with these operating instructions, the warranty/guar-
antee will expire. We do not assume any liability for consequential damage!
We do not assume any liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by improper use
or the failure to observe the safety instructions! In such cases the warranty/guarantee is voided.
Normal wear and tear during operation (e.g. worn-out gear wheels) are excluded from the guarantee
and warranty; the same is the case for accidental damage (e.g. broken bearing retainer or rotor
blades).
Dear customer, these safety instructions are not only for the protection of the product but also for your own
safety and that of other people. Therefore, read this chapter very carefully before taking the product into
operation!
a) General Information
Caution, important note!
Operating the model may cause damage to property and/or individuals. Therefore, make sure that
you are sufciently insured when using the model, e.g. by taking out private liability insurance.
If you already have private liability insurance, verify whether or not operation of the model is
covered by your insurance before commissioning your model.
Note: In some countries you are required to have insurance for all model aircraft!
• Theunauthorisedconversionand/ormodicationoftheproductareprohibitedforsafetyandapproval
reasons.
• This product is not a toy and not suitable for children under 14 years of age.
• The product must not become damp or wet.
• Ifyoudonothavesufcientknowledgeastohowtodealwithremote-controlledmodels,pleaseseekthe
advice of an experienced model maker or a model making club.
• Do not leave packaging material unattended. It may become a dangerous toy for children.
• Should questions arise that are not answered by these operating instructions, contact us (for contact
information, see chapter 1) or another expert.
• The operation and handling of remote controlled model helicopters must be learned! If you have never
steered such a model, start especially carefully and get used to the reactions of the model to the remote
controlcommandsrst.Bepatient!

b) Before Commissioning
• Switch on the transmitter and then the helicopter. This is the only way for an attunement function to take
place between transmitter and receiver, so that your model will react reliably to the control commands
of your transmitter.
• Check the functional safety of the model and remote control system. Watch out for any visible damage
such as defective plug connections or damaged cables. All moving parts on the model must run smoothly
but must not have any tolerance in the bearing.
• Theightbatteryrequiredforoperationmustbechargedbeforeoperation.Ensurethatthebatteriesin
thetransmitterhaveasufcientremainingcapacity(observethevoltagedisplay).Ifyouareusingbatter-
ies and they are empty, always replace the complete set, never individual cells only.
c) During Operation
• Do not take any risks when operating the product! Your own safety and that of your environment depends
completely on your responsible use of the model.
• Improper operation can cause serious damage to people and property! Therefore make sure to keep a
sufcientlysafedistancefrompersons,animalsorobjectsduringoperation.Nevertrytograbtheying
model with your hand!
• Flyyourmodelonlyifyourabilitytorespondisunrestricted.Theinuenceoftiredness,alcoholormedi-
cation can cause incorrect responses.
• Motors,motorregulatorandightbatterycanheatduringoperation.Forthisreason,waitfor5to10min-
utesbeforerechargingorreplacingtheightbatteryortakingoffagainwithasecond,already-charged
ightbattery.
• Leave the remote control (transmitter) switched on while the model is in operation. After landing, always
disconnecttheightbatteryfromthehelicopterbeforeswitchingofftheremotecontrol.
• Never switch off the remote control while the model helicopter is still in operation.
• Never expose your model and the remote control system to direct solar irradiation or great heat for an
extended period.

7. Notes on Batteries and Rechargeable Batteries
Although use of batteries and rechargeable batteries in everyday life is a matter of course today,
there are many dangers and problems.
Ensure that you observe the following general information and safety information when handling
batteries and rechargeable batteries.
• Keep batteries/rechargeable batteries out of the reach of children.
• Do not leave any batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around openly. There is a risk of batteries being
swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately!
• Batteries/rechargeablebatteriesmustneverbeshort-circuited,disassembledorthrownintore.There
is a danger of explosion!
• Leaking or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries can cause chemical burns to skin at contact; there-
fore, use suitable protective gloves.
• Donotrechargenormalbatteries.Thereisariskofreandexplosion!Onlychargerechargeablebat-
teries (1.2 V) intended for this purpose. Use suitable battery chargers. Batteries (1.5 V) are intended for
one-time use only and must be disposed of properly when discharged.
• Always observe the correct polarity when inserting batteries or connecting the charger (observe plus/+
and minus/-). Incorrect polarity will damage not only the transmitter but also the plane model and the
batteries.Thereisadangerofreandexplosion.
• Always replace the whole set of batteries in the transmitter. Do not mix full batteries with half-full ones.
Always use batteries/rechargeable batteries of the same type and manufacturer.
• Never mix batteries and rechargeable batteries! Therefore, only use batteries for the remote control
transmitter.
• If the device is not used for an extended period of time (e.g. storage), remove the inserted batteries from
the remote control to avoid damage from leaking batteries.
• Aftertheight,disconnecttheightbatteryfromthehelicopter.Donotleavetherechargeableightbat-
tery connected to the helicopter if the model is not used (e.g. during transport or storage). Otherwise, the
ightbatterymaybefullydischargedandisthusdestroyed/unusable!
• Never charge the ight battery right after use.Always let the ight battery to cool down until it has
reached room or ambient temperature again.
• Onlychargeintactandundamagedightbatteries.Iftheouterisolationoftherechargeablebatteryis
damaged or the battery is deformed or bloated, it must not be charged. In this case, there is immediate
dangerofreandexplosion!
• Neverdamagetheoutershelloftheightbattery,donotcutthefoilcover,donotpuncturetheight
batterywithpointedobjects.Thereisariskofreandexplosion!
• Removetheightbatteryfromthemodelforrecharging.
• Neverrechargetheightrechargeablebatteryunattended.
• Disconnecttheightbatteryfromthechargerwhenitisfullycharged.

9. Setting up the Transmitter
 Inthefurthercourseoftheseinstructions,guresinthetextalwaysrefertotheadjacentgureorthegures
withinthesection.Referencestootherguresareindicatedwiththecorrespondinggurenumber.
a) Inserting the Batteries/Rechargeable Batteries
The power supply of the transmitter requires 4 mignon batteries (e.g. Conrad item no. 652506, please order 4 x) or 4
mignon rechargeable batteries.
Proceed as follows to insert the batteries/rechargeable batteries:
Liftthebatterycompartmentlid(seegure2,item18)atthe
lower edge and fold it up.
Insert four mignon batteries or mignon rechargeable batteries
into the battery compartment according to the indications at
the bottom (1) in the correct polarity. The spiral-shaped spring
contact (2) always must be connected to the minus pole of the
battery or rechargeable battery (3).
Then fold down the battery compartment lid and let it latch.
b) Switching on the Transmitter
Move the control stick for the pitch and tail functions (also see
gure1,item13)righttoyourbodyortothebottomposition.
Slide the on/off switch (also see gure 1, item 10) from the
lower switch position (off) up to the upper position (on).
Then the remote control transmitter emits two short signal
sounds,theLED(alsoseegure1,item2)lightsupandthe
backlitdisplay(alsoseegure1,item9)showstheoperating
display.
Attention!
If the control stick of the pitch and rail functions (also
seegure1,item13)isnolongerinthebottom-most
position, the transmitter emits acoustic warnings in a
quick sequence.
To save power, the backlighting of the display is
switched off after approx. 8 seconds.

* Theightconditiondisplayofthetransmitteriscoupledwiththe"DualRate"switch.Whenthemaximumcontrol
paths are activated and the upper right of the display shows "D/R 0", the display will show a helicopter in inverted
ightposition.Thisdisplayisnotrelevantinconnectionwiththeelectricalhelicopter"HFP80",sincethismodel
helicopterisnotdesignedforinvertedight.
** When actuating a control stick, the respective control channel (CH1 - CH4) and the respective percentage of the
stick path are displayed at all times. If no control stick is moved for approx. 5 seconds, the transmitter voltage
display appears again.

The four control channels that are displayed are assigned to the following functions:
CH1: Roll function
CH2: Nod Function
CH3: Pitch function
CH4: Tail function
Attention!
 Ifthepowersupplyisnolongersufcientforafaultlessoperationofthetransmitter(lessthan4V),theLED
display(seegure1,item2)ashesandthetransmitteremitsshortalarmsatregularintervals.
 Inthiscase,terminateightoperationofthemodelimmediatelyandinsertanewsetofbatteriesinthe
transmitter or charge the transmitter batteries again.
Important:
If the remote control emits signals in a quick sequence after activation and the display shows neither the
operating voltage nor the control stick display, the control stick for the pitch function is not in the bottom
position or the transmitter does not properly recognise the position of the control stick. In this case, the
control sticks must be re-calibrated.
For more information on calibration of the control sticks, see the following chapters.
c) Adjustment of the Control Sticks
You can adjust the length of the control sticks, depending on
your steering habits.
To do so simply hold the bottom part of the grip (1) and turn the
upper part (2) up anti-clockwise.
You can now set the length of the control stick by turning the
bottom part of the grip.
Finally, tighten the upper part of the grip back up.

10. Operation of the Model Helicopter
a) Charging the Flight Battery
TheightbatteryischargedwiththeenclosedUSBchargingadapter.Forthis,theadapterisconnectedtoaUSB
socket of a computer/notebook or a commercial USB plug-in mains adapter with the also-enclosed USB plug-in
charger.
Attention!
Do not connect the USB cable to a USB hub without a separate mains adapter (e.g. a keyboard USB port,
etc.),becausethesewillnotprovidesufcientcurrentforcharging.
Connecttheightbattery(1)tooneoftheconnectionsockets
protected against polarity reversal (2) of the charging adapter.
Work with the required care and do not apply any unnecessary
force.
Anoptionallyavailablespareightbatterycanbeconnectedto
the second charging output (2). It is then charged at the same
time.
Then connect the miniature USB plug (small plug) of the USB
cable(3)tothechargingadapteraccordingtothegure.
Once you connect the USB plug (large plug) of the USB ca-
ble to a USB socket of a computer/notebook or a USB plug-in
charger, charging commences.
Each charging output has its own LED display (4), which lights up red while charging. When charging is completed,
the display of the charge indicator LED switches from red to green.
Disconnect the rechargeable battery from the charging adapter right after charging and pull the USB plug
from the computer/notebook or plug-in charger. The two charging chutes above the LED displays (see
g.7,item5)maybeusedifneededtochargerechargeablebatteriesofothersmallmodelswiththecor-
responding plug-in socket. In connection with the model helicopter "HFP80", however, the charging chutes
are not needed.
Important!
Only charge one rechargeable battery per side (shaft or cable connection). Never try charging two re-
chargeable batteries (shaft and cable connection) on one side of the charging adapter at once!
 Removetheightbatteryfromthemodelforrecharging!
 Placetheightbatteryandthechargingadaptersonare-proofundergroundwhencharginganddonot
charge the battery unsupervised.
The operating system does not recognize any new hardware after connection of the charging cable, be-
cause the USB port is only used for power supply. Please observe that the USB ports of your computer/
notebook are usually only active when the computer/notebook is switched on.
Therefore, we recommend to only connect the charging cable to a computer/notebook that is switched on.

b) Checking the Drive Mechanics
Before commissioning your model helicopter, you need to
check the drive mechanics. Only if the mechanics work secure-
ly,withoutplayandabsolutelysmoothlycanbemodelywith
the lowest possible energy expenditure. For this reason, you
shouldcheckthemodelfunctionbeforeeachight.
For this, carefully turn the main rotor back and forth and check
the interaction of the main gear (1) and the motor pinion (2).
Thegearsmustsecurelytintoeachotherwithoutcatchingor
showing too much friction. The motor shaft with the drive pinion
must be aligned perfectly straight and must not be eccentric.
The main rotor shaft must not have any play in the bearing.
The tail rotor must be easily turned by hand and the motor shaft
must be perfectly straight for vibration-free operation.
The holding screws (3) of the rotor blades (4) must only be tight-
ened to where the rotor blades may fold down under their dead
weight of the helicopter is tilted to the side.
Therefore, never turn the holding screws in so tightly that the
rotor blades can no longer move.
c) Inserting the Flight Battery
Thechargedightbattery(1)isslidintothebatteryholder(2)
below the skid brackets. The battery connection cable (3) must
point backwards.

d) Connecting the Flight Battery
Move the control stick for the pitch and tail functions (also see
gure1,item13)tothebottompositionandswitchonthetrans-
mitter.
Then connect the plug of the helicopter connection cable (1)
that is protected against polarity reversal to the plug connector
oftheightbattery(2).Observethattheconnectioncablesdo
not drag at the main pinion (3) and are not damaged.
Right behind the battery connection, the LED under the canopy
(seegure21,item6)ofthehelicopterickersandtheelec-
tronicsinthemodelperformareconciliation.IftheLEDashes
slowly, the helicopter is not receiving a remote control signal.
After approx. 2 seconds, the LED in the helicopter is lit per-
manently and the swash plate servos move to their home
positions. Reconciliation of the electronics and binding of the
helicopter to the transmitter have been successful.
The swash plate (4) should now be aligned horizontally (see
auxiliarylineinthelowergure).
Now your model helicopter is ready to start.
If the swash plate is slightly tilted, use the trim or twist the linkage rods to precisely adjust the swash plate.

e) Basic Information Relevant to the Control of Model Helicopters
Beforeyouyyourmodel,youshouldrstfamiliarizeyourselfwiththecontrolpossibilitiesopentoyouandthereby
beabletoysafely.Themodelhelicopteriscontrolledviathetwocontrolsticksattheremotecontroltransmitter.
The following functions are available:
Pitch function
Withthepitchfunctionyoucancontroltheyingheightofthehelicopter(seegure11).Theleftcontrolstick(alsosee
gure1,item13)isusedforcontrol.Tothateffect,thecontrolstickcanbemovedforwardandbackward.Unlikethe
other control functions, the stick does not keep springing back to the centre position.
Becausetheanglesofattackoftherotorbladescannotbechanged,theyingheightisadjustedbyspeedchanges
of the main rotor. Pulling the control stick fully towards you switches off the engine and the rotor stops. If you push
the control stick forward, the main rotor runs and increases the speed according to the position of the stick. Once the
control stick is in the centre position, the main rotor speed should be high enough for the helicopter to hover. Parallel
to the main rotor, the tail rotor speed is automatically controlled by a percentage.

Tail function
By turning the main rotor clockwise (seen from the top), a torque acts on the fuselage of the helicopter to turn it
counter-clockwise. Therefore, the tail rotor is built to counter this rotation of the fuselage.
Ifthecontrolstickforthetailfunction(seegure1,item13)isinthecentreposition,thetailrotorspeedisautomati-
cally high enough for the helicopter to hover stably in the air without rotating around the vertical axis (main rotor shaft).
If the control stick is moved to the left, the tail rotor speed is decreased and the helicopter fuselage tip points to the left.
If the control stick is moved to the right, the tail rotor speed is increased and the helicopter fuselage tip points to the
right.

Roll function
Therollfunctionallowsyoutomoveyourmodelhelicoptersidewaystotherightandtotheleft(seegure13).Usethe
rightcontrolstickforcontrol(alsoseegure1,item3).
If the stick is slightly pushed to the left, the swash plate will tip to the left and the model will drift to the left side. If you
steer to the right, the model drifts sideways to the right.

Nod Function
Thenodfunctionallowsyoutomoveyourmodelhelicopterforwardandbackward(seegure14).Thisisalsocon-
trolledwiththerightcontrolstick(alsoseegure1,item3).
Ifyoupressthestickslightlyforward,themodeliesforward.Ifyoupullthesticktowardstheback,themodelies
backwards.
