Installing / Upgrading CA4K Software
1. Verify your computer has FULL LOCAL ADMINISTRA-
TOR RIGHTS. The computer should be running Windows
10 Pro, Windows 11 Pro, Windows Server 2012 R2, Win-
dows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 or Windows Serv-
er 2022.
2. To install the software, launch the CA4K setup.exe.
3. After the installation starts, click "Install CardAccess 4K".
A few components will install prior to the "Setup Type"
screen displaying. On the "Setup Type" screen, select the
type of installation you are performing. If you are installing
a CA4K host, select "Complete Install". If you are in-
stalling a CA4K workstation, select "Workstation". All
CA4K systems must have one CA4K host. Workstations
are optional. On a new system, you should install the
CA4K server/host first.
4. Note: If you are performing an upgrade from a previous
version of CardAccess 3000 or CA4K, refer to the appropri-
ate upgrade documents in the Continental document library.
5. When the installation or upgrade is complete, you will be
prompted to restart your computer. Click "Yes, I want to
restart my computer".
6. Launch the CA4K software by clicking the CARDAC-
CESS4K launcher icon. The CA4K default Username is
"admin", and the Password is "admin@4k".
Very Important: After installing or upgrading the CA4K
software, you must manually download new firmware to
your CICP2100 controller. Unlike other Continental con-
trollers, the firmware download for a CICP2100 is not auto-
matic.
Programming the CA4K Software
1. After a new CA4K installation is performed, you are re-
quired to program a few items to get a basic system func-
tioning. The following steps will assist you with program-
ming the required items:
●Click "Configuration/Com Servers and Ports". Click Add
Channel to add a new comport. If you are using network commu-
nications, select Network-Ethernet connection as the Type.
Click Save.
●Click "Configuration/Panels". Click New and configure a panel.
Select the correct Panel type, Com Port and Panel Address. The
Com Port setting is the comport configured in the previous step.
Click Save.
●Click "Administration/Schedules". Click "New". Enter a
"Schedule Name" (ex. 24 x 7). Click New Block. Click in the
"Day From" box. A "24 x 7" schedule fills in automatically (Day
From = MON, Day To = HOL, Time From = 12:00 AM and
Time To = 12:00 AM). Click Save.
●Click "Configuration/Readers". Click "New". Select the correct
panel that this reader is attached to. Click Save.
●Click "Access/Access Groups". Click "New". Enter an "Access
Group Name" (ex. "All Access"). Click "+" next to Panels/
Readers at the bottom of the screen. Configure a Time Schedule
for each reader. Select the "24 x 7" schedule previously created.
●Click the "Personnel" icon. Click "New Person". Type your
"Badge Number", "First Name" and "Last Name". Click the
"Access Groups" tab. Click the drop down box "Access Group
1". Select the "All Access" access group previously created.
Click Save.
2. After the basic programming is complete, verify the CA4K
host is communicating with the uniVerse® controller. Go to
"Configuration/Panels", and perform a "Firmware
Download" to the panel. After the firmware and data
download is complete, verify the badge you entered into
Personnel, is working correctly. A "Badge Valid" alert
should display when the badge is presented to the reader.

Things to Remember/Important Tips:
1. The password for the CardAccess utility
(database utility) is "pr1532".
2. The CA4K default Username is "admin", and the
Password is "admin@4k".
3. Verify your computer meets the recommended
computer specs and you are using a supported
operating system. Refer to the Continental docu-
ment library for the required computer specifica-
tions.
4. If possible, it is recommended to use the 12VDC
power supply for the initial configuration.
5. Verify you have the CA4K Installation files.
6. Verify you have the correct software license for
your version of software. Software licenses are
unique for each version.
7. The CICP2100 controller contains an onboard
POE Ethernet Adapter. You must configure the
Ethernet settings using the Continental Universe-
Finder utility. Contact the System Administrator
for the Network configuration settings. The Con-
tinental UniverseFinder utility can be found in
the CardAccess4K>Tools folder. Refer to
WI2180 for detailed information on jumpers J3
(DHCP) and J5 (Username and Password). In
addition to the CICP2100 controller firmware,
separate Ethernet firmware must also be down-
loaded to the Ethernet adapter.

Clear Memory and Force Data Download to Panel (Zero Reset)
The following procedure is seldom necessary, but the Continental Support Staff may
recommend the following procedure as part of troubleshooting:
1. Note setting of Address switches.
2. Set Address switches to "0".
3. Press and hold the reset (RST) button (via the access hole) for at least two sec-
onds.
4. Set Address switches to their original settings.
Panel memory is cleared. The panel will request a new Data download.
Force Firmware Download to Panel (F Reset)
The following procedure is required to force a firmware download:
1. Note setting of Address switches.
2. Set Address switch to "F".
3. Press and hold the reset (RST) button (via the access hole) for at least two sec-
onds.
4. Set Address switch back it its original setting.
The panel will request a Firmware and Data download.
Very Important: Unlike other controllers, the CICP2100 does not automatically
request a firmware download. You MUST manually perform a firmware download
or perform a 99 Reset. Failure to do so will result in erratic panel behavior.
