PREPARATION
Thoroughlyinspecttheareawheretheequipmentisto beused.Removeall
doormats,newspapers,sleds,boards,wiresandotherforeignobjects,which
couldbetrippedoverorthrownbythe auger/impeller.
,, Alwayswearsafetyglassesoreyeshieldsduringoperationandwhile
performinganadjustmentor repairto protectyoureyes.Thrownobjects
whichricochetcancauseseriousinjurytothe eyes.
•Donotoperatewithoutwearingadequatewinteroutergarments.Donot
wearjewelry,longscarvesor otherlooseclothing,whichcouldbecome
entangledinmovingparts.Wearfootwearwhichwill improvefootingon
slipperysurfaces.
•Usea groundedthree-wireextensioncordand receptacleforall units
with electricstart engines.

Safe Handling of Gasoline
Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamageuseextremecarein handling
gasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsareexplosive.
Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineis spilledonyourselfor your
clothes,whichcan ignite.Washyourskinandchangeclothesimmediately.
•Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.
•Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesand othersourcesofignition.
•Neverfuel machineindoors.
•Neverremovegascapor addfuelwhilethe engineishot or running.

REMOVING FROM CARTON
1. Cutthecornersofthecartonandlaythesidesflat ontheground.
Removeand discardall packinginserts.
2. Movethesnowthroweroutofthecarton.
3. Makecertainthecartonhasbeencompletelyemptiedbefore
discardingit.
LOOSE PARTS
Tworeplacementaugershearpinsare includedwiththis manual.Refer

ASSEMBLY
1. Observethelowerrearareaofthesnowthrowertobesureboth
cablesarealignedwithrollerguidesbeforepivotingthehandle

Chute Clean=Out Tool
A chute clean-out tool isfastenedtothetopoftheaugerhousing
witha mountingclip.SeeFigure6.Thetoolisdesignedtocleara
chuteassemblyof iceandsnow.Thisitemisfastenedwitha cabletie
atthefactory.Cutthecabletiebeforeoperatingthesnowthrower.

Tire Pressure
Beforeoperating,checktirepressureand reducepressureinbothtires
tobetween15psiand20 psi.
NOTE:If thetirepressureisnotequalin bothtires,theunitmaynot
travelin a straightpathandtheshaveplatemaywearunevenly.
ADJUSTMENTS
Skid Shoes
Thesnowthrowerskidshoesareadjustedupwardatthefactoryfor
shippingpurposes.Adjustthemdownward,ifdesired,priortooperat-
ingthesnowthrower.
It isnotrecommendedthatyouoperatethissnowthrowerongravel
as itcaneasilypickupandthrowloosegravel,causingpersonal
injuryordamageto thesnowthrowerandsurroundingproperty.
•Forclosesnowremovalona smoothsurface,raiseskidshoes
higheron theaugerhousing.
•Usea middleor lowerpositionwhentheareatobe clearedis
uneven,suchasa graveldriveway
NOTE:If youchoosetooperatethesnowthroweron a gravelsurface,
keeptheskid shoesin positionformaximumclearancebetweenthe
groundandtheshaveplate.
Toadjusttheskidshoes:
1. Loosenthefourhexnuts(twooneachside)andcarriagebolts.
Moveskidshoesto desiredposition. SeeFigure7.
2. Makecertaintheentirebottomsurfaceof skidshoeisagainstthe
groundtoavoidunevenwearontheskidshoes.
3. Retightennutsand boltssecurely.

Chute Assembly
Thedistancesnowisthrowncanbeadjustedbychangingtheangleof
thechuteassembly.Todo so:
1. Stoptheenginebyremovingtheignitionkeyandloosenthe
plasticwingknobfoundon theleftsideofthechuteassembly.
2. Pivotthechuteupwardordownwardbeforeretighteningthewing
knob.SeeFigure8.
Auger Control
Priorto operatingyoursnowthrower,carefullyreadandfollowall
instructionsbelow.Performalladjustmentstoverifyyoursnow
throwerisoperatingsafelyand properly.
Checktheadjustmentoftheaugercontrolasfollows:
1. Whentheaugercontrolisreleasedandin thedisengaged"up"
position,thecableshouldhavevery littleslack.ItshouldNOTbe
tight.
2. Ina well-ventilatedarea,startthesnowthrowerengine.Refer
toStartingtheEnginein th_O=perationsection.Makesurethe
throttleissetin theFAST_p position.
3. Whilestandingintheoperator'sposition(behindthesnow
thrower),engagetheauger.
4. Allowtheaugertoremainengagedforapproximatelyten(10)
secondsbeforereleasingtheaugercontrol.Repeatthisseveral
times.
5. WiththethrottlecontrolintheFAST(rabbit)_ positionand
theaugercontrolin thedisengaged"up"position,walktothefront
ofthemachine.
6. Confirmthattheaugerhascompletelystoppedrotatingand
showsNOsignsof motion.If theaugershowsANYsignsof
rotating,immediatelyreturntotheoperator'spositionandshutoff
theengine.WaitforALL movingpartstostopbeforeadjustingthe
augercontrol.
7. Toreadjustthecontrolcable,loosentheupperhexboltonthe
augercablebracket.SeeFigure9.
8. Positionthebracketupwardtoprovidemoreslack(or downward
toincreasecabletension).
9. Retightentheupperhexbolt.
10. Repeatsteps2-6abovetoverifyproperadjustmenthasbeen
achieved.

Forward
Yoursnowthrowerhasfive forward(F)speeds.Positionone (1)isthe
slowestand positionfive (5) isthefastest.
Reverse
Yoursnowthrowerhastwo reverse(R)speeds.One(1)is theslower
andtwo(2)is thefaster.
IGNITION KEY
Theignitionkeyisa safetydevice.It mustbe fullyinsertedinorderfor
theenginetostart. Removetheignitionkeywhenthesnowthroweris
notin use.
NOTE:Donotturntheignitionkeyinanattempttostarttheengine.
Doingso maycauseit tobreak.
CHOKE CONTROL III
Thechokecontrolisfoundon therearof theengineand isactivated
byrotatingtheknobclockwise.Activatingthechokecontrolclosesthe
chokeplateonthecarburetorandaidsinstartingtheengine.

THROTTLE CONTROL
Thethrottlecontrolis locatedon therearoftheengine.
It regulatesthespeedofthe engineandwillshutoff the
enginewhenmovedintotheSTOPposition.
RECOIL STARTER HANDLE
This handleisusedto manuallystarttheengine.
ELECTRIC STARTER BUTTON
Pressingtheelectricstarterbuttonengagestheengine's
electricstarterwhenpluggedintoa 120Vpowersource.
ELECTRIC STARTER OUTLET
Requirestheuseofa three-prongoutdoorextensioncord
(included)anda 120Vpowersource/walloutlet.

1. ReleaseboththeAugerControlandtheDriveControl.
2. Stoptheenginebyremovingtheignitionkey.
3. Removetheclean-outtoolfromtheclipwhichsecuresittothe
rearoftheaugerhousing.
4. Usetheshovel-shapedendoftheclean-outtooltodislodgeand
scoopanysnowandicewhichhasformedin andnearthechute
assembly.
5. Refastentheclean-outtooltothemountingclipontherearof
theaugerhousing,reinsertthe ignitionkeyandstartthesnow
thrower'sengine.
6. Whilestandingintheoperator'sposition(behindthesnow
thrower),engagetheaugercontrolfora fewsecondsto clearany
remainingsnowandicefromthechuteassembly.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
Read,understand,andfollowallinstructionsandwarningsonthe
machineandin thismanualbeforeoperating.
Oil
Theunitwasshippedwithoil intheengine.Checkoil levelbeforeeach
operationtoensureadequateoil intheengine.Forfurtherinstructions,

1. Removethedipstickfromtheoilfill.
2. Checkandmakesurethatthelevelofoil isuptotheFULLmark
onthedipstick.
3. If theoil levelis notupto FULL,pourfreshmotoroil (5W-30,with
a minimumclassificationofSL/SJ)slowlythroughtheopening.

STARTING THE ENGINE
1. Attachsparkplugwiretosparkplug.Makecertainthe metal
loopon theend ofthesparkplugwire(insidetherubberboot)is
fastenedsecurelyoverthemetaltip onthesparkplug.
2. Makecertainboththeaugercontrolanddrivecontrolarein the
disengaged(released)position.
3. MovethrottlecontroluptoFAST_ position.Insertignitionkey
intoslot.Makesureitsnapsintoplace.Donotattempttoturnthe
key.
NOTE:Theenginecannotstartwithoutthe keyis fullyinsertedintothe
ignitionswitch.
Electric Starter
Determinethat yourhome'swiringisa three-wiregroundedsystem.
Aska licensedelectricianifyouarenotcertain.
Theoptionalelectricstarterisequippedwitha groundedthree-wire
powercordandplug,and isdesignedtooperateon 120voltAC
householdcurrent.It mustbe usedwithaproperlygroundedthree-
prongreceptacleatall timestoavoidthepossibilityofelectricshock.
Followall instructionscarefullypriortooperatingtheelectricstarter.
Ifyouhavea groundedthree-prongreceptacle,proceedasfollows:
1. Plugtheextensioncordintotheoutletlocatedontheengine's
surface.Plugtheotherendofextensioncordintoathree-prong
120-volt,grounded,ACoutletina well-ventilatedarea.
2. RotatechokecontroltoFULL IJl chokeposition(foracold
enginestart).

4. Pullthestarterhandlewithafirm,rapidstroke.Donotrelease
thehandleandallowit tosnapback.Keepa firmholdon the
starterhandleandallowit toslowlyrecoil.
5. Astheenginewarms,slowlyrotatethechokecontroltotheOFF
position.Iftheenginefalters,quicklyrotatethechokecontrol
backtotheFULL IJl positionandthenslowlyintotheOFF
positionagain.
NOTE:Allowtheenginetowarmupforafew minutesafterstarting.
Theenginewillnotdevelopfullpoweruntilit reachesoperating
temperatures.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Runenginefora fewminutesbeforestoppingto helpdryoff any
moistureontheengine.
MovethrottlecontroltoSTOP
1. position.
2. Removethe ignitionkeyandstoreina safeplace.
3. Wipeall snowandmoisturefromtheareaaroundtheengineas
wellastheareainand aroundthedrivecontrolandaugercontrol.
Also,engageandreleasebothcontrolsseveraltimes.
TO ENGAGE DRIVE
1. WiththethrottlecontrolintheFast_ position,moveshiftlever
intooneofthefiveforward(F)positionsor two reverse(R)
positions.Selecta speedappropriateforthesnowconditionsand
a paceyou'recomfortablewith.
NOTE:Whenselectinga DriveSpeed,usetheslowerspeedsuntil
youarecomfortableandfamiliarwiththeoperationofthesnow
thrower.
2. Squeezethedrivecontrolagainstthehandleandthesnow
throwerwillmove.Releaseitanddrivemotionwillstop.
NOTE:NEVERrepositiontheshiftlever(changespeedsor direction
of travel)withoutfirstreleasingthedrivecontrolandbringingthesnow
throwertoa completestop.Doingsowillresultin prematurewearto
thesnowthrower'sdrivesystem.
TO ENGAGE AUGERS
1. Toengagetheaugersandstartthrowingsnow,squeezethe
augercontrolagainstthelefthandle.Releasetostoptheaugers.
REPLACING SHEAR PiNS
Theaugersaresecuredtothespiralshaftwithtwoshearpinsand
bow-tieclips,iftheaugershouldstrikea foreignobjector icejam,
thesnowthrowerisdesignedsothattheshearpinsmayshear.If the
augerswillnotturn,checktoseeifthepinshavesheared.SeeFigure

Drive Control

intermittentdrivewhileusing,thecablemayneedtobeadjusted.
Checktheadjustmentofthedrivecontrolasfollows:
1. Withthedrivecontrolreleased,pushthesnowthrowergently
forward.Theunitshouldrollfreely.
2. Engagethedrivecontrolandgentlyattempttopushthesnow
throwerforward.Thewheelsshouldnotturn.Theunitshouldnot
rollfreely.
3. Withthedrivecontrolreleased,movetheshiftleverbackand
forthbetweentheR2positionandtheF5positionseveraltimes.
Thereshouldbenoresistancein theshiftlever.
4. If anyoftheabovetestsfailed,thedrivecableisin needof adjust-
