Makesurethereisnolessthan1‐inchclearance
betweentherider’sinseamareaandthebicycletop
tubewhentheriderstraddlesthebicyclewithbothfeet
flatontheground.
Ifthebicycleistoolarge,theridermaynotbeableto
reachthepedalsortheground,whichmayresultinloss
ofcontrolandacrash.
Adjusttheseatheightsuchthatyoucancomfortablyreachthepedalswhentheyareatthebottomof
theirstroke.

General Information
YourCSCelectricbicycleisanelectricmotorassistedbicycleequippedwithpedalsandanelectricmotor.
AtLevel0,nopedalassistisprovided.Levels1through5provideincreasinglevelsofpedalassist.The
electricmotorpedalassistfunctionisactivatedbypedalingthebicyclewhenpedalassistLevels1
through5havebeenselected(dependingonwhichpowerassistlevelyouhaveselected,additional
motivepowerisprovidedwhenyoupedalthebicycle).InLevels1through5,thehandlebar‐mounted
thumbswitchengagestheelectricmotortodrivethebicyclewithoutpedaling.
Caution!Donotactivatethehandlebar‐mountedthumbswitchifyouarenotonthebicycleandthe
pedalassistlevelissettoLevel1,2,3,4,or5,astheelectricmotorwillpropelthebicycleforward.
Yourelectricbicycleincludesaframe‐mountedbatterythatshouldberechargedasrequired.
Thebicycleincludesarearsetofsprocketswithaderailleurthatallowfor7differentgearratios.You
canshiftgearsusingahandlebar‐mountedindexshifterlikeyouwoulddoonaregularbicycle.
Thebicycleincludesfrontandrearhydraulicdiskbrakes,whichareindependentlyoperatedby
handlebar‐mountedlevers.
Thebicycleincludesafrontsuspensionthatisadjustableforcompressionanddamping,andthatcanbe
lockedtorigidfontsuspension.
Thebicycleincludesaheadlightandataillightthatmustbemanuallyswitchedon.Theseshouldbe
turnedonatalltimeswhenthebicycleisriddentoprovideforimprovedridervisibility.

LCD Displays and Switch Functions
TheLCD(mountedinthecenterhandlebararea)providesa
largearrayofinformationinseveraldisplaymodes.Turning
thebicycle’sLCDon,makingelectricmotorpoweravailableto
drivethebicycle,LCDdisplayinformation,andnumerous
bicyclesettingsareallcontrolledbythreeswitchescontained
inaswitchhousingonthelefthandlebar(showntotheright).
TheswitchesarereferredtoasSwitch1(theUPswitch),
Switch2(thepowerswitch),andSwitch3(theDOWNswitch).
TheswitchandLCDdisplaysareshownintheillustrationbelow.
Warning!TakecarewhenactivatingSwitches1,2,and3whileridingyourelectricbicycle.Lackof
attentiontoridingyourelectricbicyclewhileactuatingtheswitchesmayresultinacrash.

Turning On Your Electric Bicycle
TurnonthebicyclebydepressingSwitch2inthephotoshown
totherightuntiltheLCDilluminates.Turningoffthebicycle
requiresdepressingSwitch2andholdingitdownasecond
time.
ThebicycleLCD,theelectricmotorpedalassistfunctions,and
thumbswitchelectricmotoractuationwillturnoff
automaticallyifthebicycleisnotusedfor5minutes.
Turning Your Headlight and Taillight On and Off
Toturnontheheadlightandtaillight,depressSwitch1until
thelightsilluminate.Toturnofftheheadlightandtaillight,
depressSwitch1untilthelightsturnoff.
Changing Your LCD Display Mode
TheLCDmountedinthecenterofthehandlebarshasthree
displaymodes:Display1,Display2,andDisplay3.Youcan
cyclethroughDisplay1,Display2,andDisplay3bypressing
Switch2momentarilyaftertheLCDhasbeenturnedon.By
default,Display1isshownwhenyoufirstturnonyourelectric
bicycle.

Illuminating Your LCD’s Backlight
AftertheLCDhasbeenturnedon,youcanilluminatethe
backlightontheLCDbyholdingSwitch1oncontinuouslyfor5
seconds.Youcandothisfromanyofthedisplaymodes.
Toturnthebacklightoff,holdSwitchon1continuouslyfor5
seconds.

Toggling Between English and Metric Units
Within15secondsofturningtheLCDon,depressSwitches2and
3for5secondsuntilyouseethescreenstarttoflash.Atthis
point,byrepeatedlydepressingSwitch2youcantogglethrougha
topspeedsetting(donotadjustthis),wheeldiameter(thisisset
atthefactory)andchoicesforfouroptionsyoucancyclethrough
bydepressingSwitches1or2:
1. MPH&Fahrenheitunits
2. KM/H&Fahrenheitunits
3. MPH&Celsiusunits
4. KM/H&Celsiusunits

Afterselectingyourdesiredmeasurementunits,depressSwitch2
for5secondstoreturntoDisplay1.
Pedal Assist System
Tochangetheamountofpedalassist(electricmotorpower
providedduringthepedalingeffort),depressSwitches1or3
tochangefromLevel0(nopedalassist)toLevel5(maximum
amountofpedalassist).PressingSwitch1increasesthe
pedalassistlevel(moreassistancefromthemotorisprovided);
pressingSwitch3decreasesthepedalassistlevel(less
assistanceisprovided).
ThePedalAssistLevelselected(0through5)willbedisplayed
ontheLCD’sleftsideasshowninthephotographtotheright.

Thumb Throttle
Actuatingthehandlebar‐mountedthumbthrottleaftertheelectricbicyclehasbeenturnedonwillcause
theelectricmotortopropelthebikeforward.
Thethumbthrottleisshowninthephotototheright.
Pushingthethumbthrottledownincreasestheamountof
powerprovidedtothedrivemotor,therebyincreasingthe
bicycle’sspeed.
Caution!Donotactivatethehandlebar‐mountedthumb
switchifyouarenotonthebicycle,astheelectricmotorwill
propelthebicycleforward.
Displaying Mileage and Time, and Resetting the Trip Meter
Todisplaytripmileageandtime,depressSwitch1and3
simultaneouslyfor5seconds.Thetripmileageandriding
timewillbedisplayedontheLCD.
Toresetthedisplaystozero,depressSwitch2untiltheLCD
mileageandtimereverttozero.
Maximum Electric Motor Bicycle Speed
YourCSCelectricbicycle’smaximumspeedthatcanbeattainedthroughelectricmotorpoweris20mph.
Youcanattainhigherspeedsbypedalingthebicyclefasterwithhigherrearderailleurgearsselected,but
noadditionalelectricpowerwillbeprovidedabove20mph.Asexplainedabove,electricmotorpower
willbeprovidedby:
ThumbthrottleactivationifyouhaveselectedpedalassistlevelsofLevel1throughLevel5,or
Thepedalassistfunctiontoassistmanualpedalingifyouhaveselectedpedalassistlevelsof

Beyond20mph,though,noadditionalelectricmotorpowerwillbeprovidedtodriveyourelectric
bicycletohigherspeeds.
Shifting Drive Gears
Rearwheeldrivegearchangesareaccomplishedthroughtheuseofthegearselectorlocatedonthe
handlebarneartherighthandgrip.
Changingtoahighergear(forhigherbicyclespeeds)requires
clickingthegearselectorleverforward(shownbytheupper
arrow)withyourthumb.
Changingtoalowergear(forclimbinghillsorpedalingintothe
wind)requirespressingthegeardownshiftbutton(shownby
thelowerarrow)withyourthumb.
Caution!Youshouldonlychangegearswhilepedalingtoallowtherearderailleurtomovethechain
fromonerearsprockettoanother.Attemptingtochangegearswhilenotpedalingputsunduestress
ontherearderailleur.
Braking
Yourelectricbicyclehasfrontandrearhydraulically‐actuateddiskbrakes.Thebrakesarecontrolledby
handle‐barmountedbrakelevers.Theleftbrakeleveroperatestherearbrakeandtherightbrakelever
operatesthefrontbrake.
Duringnormaloperation,boththefrontandrearbrakesshouldbeusedtodecelerateortostopthe
electricbicycle.
Warning!Donotapplythebrakestoovigorouslyoryoumayinduceaskidandcrash.Donotapplythe
frontbraketoovigorouslyasyoumaylifttherearwheeloffthegroundandcrash.
Warning!Whenridinginwetweather,brakingdistanceswillincreaseduetodecreasedfrictiononthe
brakerotorsanddecreasedtiretraction.Takethisintoconsiderationwhenridinginwetweather.

Charging the Battery
Thebatterymaybechargedeitheronoroffthebicycle.
Tochargethebatteryonthebicycle:
Connectthewallpowersupplyinputplugofthe
chargertothewallACpoweroutletfirst(theplugon
thewall).
Connecttheoutputplugofthechargerwiththe
chargingportofthebattery,asshowninthephototo
theright.
Caution!Donotconnectthechargertothebatterybeforeconnectingthechargertothewalloutlet
first.Doingsomaydamagethecircuit.
Tochargethebatteryoffthebicycle:
Insertthekeyinthebatterylock,turnit,andthenlift
thebatterybyrotatingitawayfromtheframe.
ConnecttheinputplugofthechargerwiththeAC
powersupplyfirst,thenconnecttheoutputplugofthe
chargerwiththechargingportofthebattery.
Caution!Donotconnectthechargertothebatterybeforeconnectingthechargertothewalloutlet
first.Doingsomaydamagethecircuit.
Whenthebatteryischarging,thepowerindicatorofthebatteryandthechargerwillilluminate.
Chargingiscompletewhentheindicatorturnsfromredtogreen.Attainingafullchargetypically
requires6to8hours.
Warning!Chargethebatteryinawellventilated,cool,anddryarea.
Caution!Aftercharging,firstdisconnectthechargerinputplug,andthendisconnectthecharger

Caution!Donotallowthechargertoremainconnectedafterthebatteryisfullycharged,asthismay
shortenbatterylife.
Caution!Alwayschargeyourbatteryintemperaturesbetween50°F–77°F(10°C–25°C)andensure
thebatteryandchargerarenotdamagedbeforeinitiatingachargecycle.Ifyounoticeanythingunusual
whilecharging,discontinuecharginganddonotusethebicycle.ContactCSCforhelp.
Battery Range
Yourelectricbicycle’srangeisafunctionofmanyfactors,includingyourweight,yourpedalassistsetting,
howmuchpedaleffortyouprovide,thespeedsatwhichyouride,theterrain(uphillordownhillversus
levelground),theroadsurface,prevailingwinds,andtemperature.
Caution!Donotridesofarthatyouhaveinsufficientchargetocompleteyourtrip.Youshouldalways
leavewithafullychargedbattery,andobservethestateofchargeduringyourridesuchthatadequate
chargeremainstoassistyoutoyourdestination.
Battery Status
BatterychargestatusisshownontheLCDdisplayintheupper
rightcorneroftheLCD,asshowninthephotographtothe
right.
Battery Disposal
Whenyourbatteryisnolongerserviceable,pleasecontactCSCforareplacementat9094450900.Do
nothrowyourbatteryawayasnormaltrash.Disposeofthebatteryinanapprovedbatterydisposal
facility.

Front Suspension
Yourelectricbicycle’sfrontsuspensionisadjustableforpreloadanddamping.Preloadreferstothe
howmuchcompressionthefrontspringshaveinitially.Dampingreferstohowquicklythesuspension
cancompress.Preloadanddampingarecontrolledwithtworotaryknobs,eachlocatedoneitherside
ofthefrontforksasshownbelow.Thedampingcontrolcanberotatedallthewaycounterclockwiseto
lockthefrontsuspensionsuchthatnoforkcompressioncanoccur.
Frontsuspensiondampingandadjustmentcontrols.The
dampingadjustorisontherightsideofthefrontfork(as
viewedbytherider.Thepreloadadjustorisontheleftside
ofthefrontfork(asviewedbytherider).
Thedampingadjustorislocatedatthetopoftherightfront
forkasviewedbytherider.Theadjustorcanberotated
counterclockwisethroughninepositionstoadjustthe
damping,fromnodampingallthewaytolockingthe
suspension.
Thepreloadadjustorislocatedatthetopoftheleftfrontfork
asviewedbytherider.Theadjustorcanberotated
counterclockwisetoincreasepreload,andcounterclockwiseto
decreasepreload.
Thepreloadshouldbeadjustedsuchthatwhentheforkcompressionisnotlocked,asmallamountof
forkcompressionoccurswhentheridersitsontheelectricbicycle.Iftheforksbottomout(completely
compress)whenhittingbumpsorirregularitiesintheroadsurface,increasethepreload.

Warning!Onlymakepreloadordampingadjustmentswhenyouarestopped.Neverattemptto
maketheseadjustmentswhileriding,asdoingsomaycauseyoutocrash.
Adjusting Your Bicycle to Fit You
Yourelectricbicyclecanbeadjustedforfittoyourbodybymakingadjustmentstoseatheight,seat
position,seatangle,handlebarangle,andbrakeleverpositions.Yourobjectiveshouldbetoadjustthe
bicyclesuchthatitfitsyou.
Seatforeandaftpositioncanbeadjustedbylooseningthe
clampbeneaththeseatandslidingtheseattothefrontorto
therear.Mostpeoplearecomfortablewiththeseat
approximatelycenteredovertheseatpost.
Warning!Makesuretheboltistightaftermakingany
adjustments.Alooseboltcouldcauseyoutocrash.
Seatanglecanbealsoadjustedbylooseningtheboltbeneath
theseatandrotatingtheseatangle.Youshouldadjustthe
seatanglesuchthattheseatisapproximatelyparalleltothe
ground.Youmaywishtomakeminorangularadjustmentsto
movethefrontoftheseatupordowntosuityour
preferences.
Warning!Makesuretheboltistightaftermakingany
adjustments.Alooseboltcouldcauseyoutocrash.
Seatheightcanbeadjustedbylooseningtheseatpostclamp
andmovingtheseatpostupordownintheframe.You
shouldadjusttheseatheightsuchthatwhenthepedalisatits
lowestposition,yourkneeisveryslightlybent.Theseat
shouldbepointedforward,withoutthenoseoftheseat
biasedtotheleftortheright.
Warning!Neveradjusttheseatheightsohighsuchthatthe
seatpostisextendedbeyondthewarninglineinscribedonthe
seatpost.Thiscanresultintheseatpostfailing.

Thehandlebarsshouldbeadjustedsuchthattheypoint
straightaheadformostpeople.Ifyourarmsareofslightly
unequallength,youcanadjusttheangleofthehandlebars
withrespecttothefore‐and‐aftaxisofthebicyclesuchthat
youcaneasilyreacheachhandgrip.
Warning!Makesuretheboltsinthephotoshowntothe
rightaresecure.Iftheyareloose,youcanlosecontrolofthe
bicycleandcrash.
Handlebarangularpositioncanbeadjustedbylooseningthe
handlebarclampandrotatingthehandlebarupordown.You
shouldadjustthehandlebarsuchthatitisacomfortabletothe
handlebargrips.
Warning!Makesurethehandlebarmountingboltsare
secure.Iftheyareloose,thehandlebarscanshiftposition
andcauseacrash.
Brakeleveranglecanbeadjustedtolooseningthebrakelever
clampsandrotatingtheleversupordownonthehandlebars.
Youshouldadjusttheleverssuchthatitisacomfortablereach
tothelevers.
Warning!Makesurethebrakeleversaresecure.Iftheyare
loose,theleverscanshiftpositionandcauseacrash.
Tire Pressure and Tire Maintenance
Yourtiresshouldbeinflatedto20psi.Youshouldchecktirepressurepriortoeachride.Tiresare
normalwearitems,anditisroutinefortirestorequirereplacementafteroneortwoseasonsofuse.
Whenthetreadiswornorthetiresidewallsarecracked,orifthetirehasbeentorn,youshouldreplace
yourtiresandyourtubes.It’salsoagoodideatoalwayscarryatirerepairkitandatirepump(orCO2
cartridges)withyouwheneveryourideyourbicycle.Whenyouneedanyoftheseitems,please

Usingawirecutter,removetheziptiessecuringtheboxedand
wrappedcomponentscontainer.
Youshouldhaveachargingcord,acharger,threeAllen
wrenches,twowrenches,aplasticnut,thefrontreflector,the
bell,thetaillight,andtwopedals.
Cuttheziptiesandremovethebubblewrapcontainerfrom
thewheel.
Youshouldhavethefrontskewerandtheheadlight.
