The following items are not provided with the kit and are required for proper installation:
Introduction
This kit contains the materials necessary to convert a PHW series
hood to a recirculating configuration in instances where exhausting
the hood outside the building is not practical or desired. The kit
consists of a top cap and 2 charcoal filters. When installed, the top
cap redirects air flow out the vents in the sides of the hood chimney
assembly. The provided charcoal filters are installed underneath the
mesh type filters included with the hood. The charcoal filters reduce
smoke and fumes before the hood exhaust is vented into the room.
• Sheet metal screws (suitable for attaching
duct work)
• Duct tape
• Drill with 1/16” drill bit
• Tin snips
• Piece of 8-inch diameter, round metal duct, 18 inches
long (use only solid metal duct)

STEP 1 Make sure power to the circuit that supplies power to the hood is turned off.
STEP 2 Install the chimney mounting bracket and the blower assembly according to the
installation instructions included with the hood.
STEP 3 Wire the hood according to the hood installation instructions.
STEP 4 Measure the distance between the base
of the exhaust outlet on the blower as-
sembly and the ceiling, where the chim-
ney mounting bracket is installed.
STEP 5 Determine the required duct length by
subtracting 3 7/8 inches from the dis-
tance measured in step 4.
STEP 6 Using tin snips, cut the 8-inch round duct
to the length determined in step 5.

STEP 7 Using sheet metal screws and duct
tape, attach the end of the duct length
cut in step 6 to the exhaust outlet on
the top of the blower assembly. Use a
level to make sure the duct is vertical.
Drill pilot holes as necessary for the
sheet metal screws.
STEP 8 Attach the top cap to the top of the
duct installed in step 7.
STEP 9 Install the hood chimney according to
the Installing the Chimney section of
the hood installation instructions.

STEP 10 Removethemeshtypeltersfromthehood.Toremove,pulldownontherelease
lever and pull inward, then lower out of the hood.

STEP 11 Removetheprotectiveplasticfromthecharcoalltersincludedwiththekit.
STEP 12 Insertthecharcoalltersintobothopeningsthemeshlterswhereremovedfromin
step10.Thehoodisdesignedtoallowforboththecharcoalltersandthemeshlters
totinsidethehoodatthesametime.Whenyouinsertthecharcoallter,makesure
the removal tab is toward the bottom. See diagram below.
STEP 13 Reinstallthemeshlters.
