3. System Functions
3.1Call Processing Functions
Call Processing Functions deliver voice to the call destination via the packetized. Basic
Functions include:
- Inter-extension connection
- Monitoring/Error Management
3.2Analog FXS Control Functions
Analog FXS Control Functions are used for SLT connection. It packetizes analog voice and
transmits through digital network to call destination. (i.e.: Call routing function).
3.3Emergency Call Switchover Function
The Emergency Call Switchover feature allows the device to switch over to a PSTN backup
line when:
- Internet Connectivity is unavailable
- Carrier Network Failure
- Power failure
- Device Malfunction
By default, the DV-302 is set to play an error message instructing the user on how to switch to
the PSTN backup line.
3.4DTMF/Call Progress Tone Detection & Generation Function
DTMF/Call Progress Tone Detection and Tone Generation Function detect and generate an in-
band-tone transmitted over an analog line.
3.5Voice Compression & Decompression Function
Voice Compression is the packetizing of PCM-coded voice data. Decompression is the
conversion of packetized voice data back into PCM-code. Support G.729A and G.711U for
Voice Coding mode. The actual voice compression/decompression is processed inside of
Digital Signal Processor and the functional unit controls DSP H/W.

DV-302 OPERATION MANUAL
6
3.6VoIP Function
SIP is a text-based protocol that is based on HTTP and MIME, which makes it suitable and
very flexible for integrated voice-data applications. SIP is designed for real-time transmission,
uses fewer resources and is considerably less complex than H.323. Its addressing scheme
uses URLs and is human readable. DV-302 support SIP protocol defined in RFC 3261.
3.7TCP/UDP/IP Protocol Processing Function
TCP/UDP/IP Protocol Processing Function processes various Protocols like TCP complying
with RFC793, UDP with RFC768 and IP Protocol with RFC791.
3.8Ethernet Control Function
Ethernet Control Function is used to process MAC, Ethernet protocol or IEEE 802.3 Protocol
and perform ARP for TCP/IP communications with CSMA/CD data network.
3.9FAX Relay Function
The DV-302 FAX Relay function enables you to place and receive fax calls over a VoIP
network in addition to voice calls.
3.10 STUN Function
STUN is an abbreviated word of Simple Traversal of User Datagram Protocol (UDP) through
Network Address Translators (NATs). It is a lightweight protocol that allows applications to
discover the presence and types of NATs and firewalls between them and the public Internet. It
also provides the ability for applications to determine the public Internet Protocol (IP)
addresses allocated to them by the NAT. It is defined in RFC 3489.
The DV-302 enables an enhanced mechanism to overcome NAT/FW network configuration.
By default, this feature is enabled so the customer doesn‟t need to set other NAT transparent
features like STUN for VOIP calls.
3.11 Telnet Remote Control Function
Telnet Remote Control Function is used for an operator to access the equipment using the
RFC 854 Telnet Protocol in a remote system for operation and management. The operator
may see and maintain the system via access through a Telnet from a remote location.

DV-302 OPERATION MANUAL
7
3.12 Diagnostic Function
The Diagnostic Function is used when there is a need for customers or operators to test the
device. Test results give limited information to customer/operator and serves as a vital tool to
provide optimal customer service.
3.13 DHCP Function
The DHCP Function is used to dynamically assign IP addresses, net-masks, and default
gateways. The AX gateway has a DHCP server in it that automatically performs this function.
3.14 Web-based Management Function
The Web-based management function is used to set DV-302 configuration parameters
remotely through web browser.
3.15 Operation Authentication Function
Operation authentication function is used to authenticate an operator by prompting the user ID
and password when the operator accesses the DV-302.
3.16 On-Phone IP Address Configuration Function
On-phone IP Address Configuration function enables users to set the DV-302 IP Address or
change the current IP Address and net-mask using a touch-tone phone.
3.17 Remote Upgrade Function
For remote maintenance and upgrading the system software remotely using FTP service.
3.18 TFTP/ FTP Processing Function
TFTP processing function is for remote maintenance and performs functions defined in
RFC1350. FTP processing function is for remote maintenance and performs the functions
defined in RFC1986.
