HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL
The Reference icon indicates that there is related material in this manual or in
another specified document.
The Disk Icon describes information that is related to software.
Special Handling and Cautions
The RD-19230EX-300 / RD-19240EX-300 uses state-of-the-art components,
and proper care should be used to ensure that the device will not be
damaged by Electrical Static Discharge (ESD), physical shock, or improper
power surges and that precautions are taken to avoid electrocution.
NEVER insert or remove card with power turned on.
Ensure that standard ESD precautions are followed. As a minimum, one
hand should be grounded to the power supply in order to equalize the static
potential.
Do not store disks in environments exposed to excessive heat, magnetic
fields or radiation.

Using DC Inputs
When using DC inputs the synthesized reference feature of the RD converter
must be disabled. This can be accomplished by installing an 8Ωresistor in
the R33 location that will connect the RD converter DSR pin to ground.
Power Requirements
The evaluation board is pre-configured for +5Vdc only operation. The card
can be reconfigured for use with 2 power supplies of +5Vdc and
–5Vdc.
Power Supply inputs are connected to the board via P1 (See Figure 2,
location 1). Additionally, TB2 must be set to the applicable power supply input
configuration (See Figure 2, location 14):
+5vdc only “charge pump mode” TB2 – J1, J2 jumpers installed
+5vdc and –5vdc supplies used TB2 – Remove J1, J2
Evaluation board optional digital input / output (P3) connector:
The evaluation board has provisions for an optional digital input / output
connector to be mounted on the board with all digital input / output signals
already routed to the connector pin-outs. (See Figure 2, location 9) The P3
connector footprint is a 30-pin dual row header with .100-inch centers. One
vendor source for available mounting connectors is Samtec Inc.,
www.samtec.com web site, reference p/n TSW-115-07-S-D.

QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Using the P3 expansion slot to control the digital inputs
Certain on board configurations are required to enable P3 control.
For total digital input control using P3:
1) Install TB2-J3, J5, J7 *
2) Remove TB2-J4, J6, J8 *
3) Set all SW1 switches to off. **
Notes:
* Enables P3 controls for UP /DN pre-charge function & resolution control.
** SW1 switches can override some P3 functions and should be in the off position.
Using P3 to Read Data
When using P3 to read bits 1 thru 16, the data latch inhibit must be used to
prevent miss-reads on the data word.
Sample Data Read Sequence:
(1) Latch data (P3-26 Lo)
(2) Wait per RD timing (See RD data sheet)
(3) Read data bits
(4) Unlatch data (P3-26 Hi)
(5) Next-read repeat from #1

QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Optional Bandwidth & Tracking Rate Component Set-Up
On Evaluation Board:
A second set of bandwidth and Tracking Rate Components can be
customized by populating socket S3, using the supplied 8 pin component
carrier (See Figure 4) and setting the shift switch “SW1-S1” to the “On”
position.
These components can be calculated using the preferred component
calculation software program provided on the Synchro/Resolver products
software CD-ROM, under the converter product listing or can be downloaded
from www.ddc-web.com.
Note: R clock and R set evaluation board resistors are not adjusted per the
component calculation software program. These resistors are pre-set for a
frequency range of 1 to 5Khz. For other frequency ranges see “table 3, carrier
frequency range” for instructions to adjust R28 & R29 “R clock and R set
parallel resistors”.
The preset velocity resistor R9 is 357kΩ, which will result in a tracking rate of
2.5rps in 16-bit resolution. Higher tracking rates can be obtained by reducing
the value of R9. The RV position on the component carrier “S3” (See Figure
4) is in parallel with R9 and can be used to scale the velocity resistor value.
RV
RB2
CBW2
CBW2/10
Figure 4. Component Carrier S3
To operate the evaluation card in dual Bandwidth mode:
1) Remove TB2-J3 and install TB2-J4.
(This puts –5Vdc to the Up / Dn digital input). Use the Shift digital
input SW1-1 to control selection of bandwidths.
2) Shift = SW1-1 off, logic 1 to select Vel 1 components
3) Shift = SW1-1 on, logic 0 to select Vel 2 components
(See the digital input control Table 4 for details).

QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Digital Input Control
(SW1) (Refer to Figure 2, location 12)
The 10 position Switch SW1 is used to control the digital inputs of the
resolver to digital converter. When left floating (SW1 off position),these
inputs are pulled up to +5V internally and can be set to a “logic 0” by setting
the appropriate SW1 switch to the “On” position.
Tp6 (SW1-9) (refer to Figure 2, location 12) is an internal digital input control
used for factory testing. This input disables the digital output bits and must be
kept in the “Off” (Floating) position.
(TB2) (Refer to Figure 2, location 14)
Digital inputs DO, D1, & Up / Dn are set to –5vdc using a combination of TB2
jumper settings to disable the appropriate SW1 and apply –5vdc to the
specific digital input. (See table 4 for details.)
Example: SW1 control of D0, D1 & Up / Dn requires the following
configuration, TB2-J3, J5, J7 must be installed and TB2-J4, J6, J8 removed.

QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Reference Input Voltage Configuration:
The evaluation board comes preset for a Reference Input Voltage of 26Vrms.
The Reference Input is applied through the RH and RL pins on the P2
connector. (See Figure 2, location 2)
Reference Voltage scaling is accomplished by inserting or removing shorting
jumpers (TB1) on the card as shown in Table 5. (See Figure 2, location 13)
Table 5. Reference Voltage Scaling
115Vrms (10-130Vrms) TB1-J1, J2 out (Open)
26Vrms (2-40Vrms) TB1-J1, J2 in (Short)
Signal Input Configuration (Synchro / Resolver & Line to Line
Voltage Level)
The evaluation board comes preset for an input configuration of 11.8 volt line
to line resolver mode (DDC-49530). Input voltage configuration is selected by
choosing one of the three, 16 pin Dip, thin film networks, which come with the
board. The socket insertion location will determine the input type (See Table
6).

Synchro/ Resolver Signals (S1, S2, S3, S4, Agnd) are input on the P2
connector. (See Figure 2, location 2)
Velocity Output Connector
The P4 connector accesses the Velocity Output of the resolver to digital
converter. (See Figure 2, location 11)
