Congratulations on the purchase of your new Defy appliance!
Please read this manual carefully before using your appliance for the first time and then store it
within easy reach for future reference. We trust you will enjoy years of trouble free use.
The user manual:
x This manual will provide you with information on how to safely operate and care for your
appliance in order that you gain the maximum benefit from it.

x Do not immerse the appliance,
power cord or power plug in
water or in other liquids.
x Always remove the power plug
from the wall socket before
assembling the appliance, after
using the appliance, before
disassembling, before cleaning
the appliance, before leaving
the room or if a fault occurs.
x Do not disconnect the plug by
pulling on the cord.
x Do not squeeze or bend the
power cord and do not rub it on
sharp edges in order to prevent
any damage.
x Do not use an extension cord
with the appliance.
x To prevent overheating, do not
use the appliance continuously
for more than10 seconds.
Leave to cool for 1 minute in
between each 10 seconds of
operation.
x Do not dismantle the appliance
under any circumstances. No
warranty claims are accepted
for damage caused by
improper handling.
x Do not let cord hang over edge
of table or hot surface.
x Do not immerse upper part of
blender into water as this
would give rise to electric
shock.
x Use the appliance only with the
supplied rubber base and glass
container.
x Wait for moving accessories to
stop and unplug the appliance
when left attended, while
installing/ removing
accessories or before cleaning.

this appliance! Follow all safety
instructions in order to avoid
damages due to improper use!
Keep the instruction manual for
future reference. Should this
appliance be given to a third
party, then this instruction
manual must also be handed
over.
Intended use
x This appliance is intended only
for household use; it is not
suitable for professional use. It
is designed for chopping and
whisking small amounts of
solid food only.
x The blades are very sharp!
Handle the sharp blades with
utmost care, especially during
removing and cleaning, in
order to avoid injuries.
x Never clean the appliance with
bare hands.
x Do not touch any moving parts
of the appliance. Do not attach
or remove the parts until the
appliance comes to a complete
stop.
x Always keep hair, clothing and
any other utensils away from
the appliance during operation
in order to prevent injury and
damages.
x Check if the mains voltage on
the rating label corresponds to
your local mains supply. The
only way to disconnect the
appliance from the mains is to
pull out the plug.
x Do not wrap the power cord
around the appliance.

Safety and set-up
x This appliance is not intended
for use by persons (including
children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental
capabilities or lack of
experience and knowledge,
unless they have been given
supervision or instruction
concerning the use of the
appliance by a person
responsible for their safety.
x Children should be supervised
to ensure that they do not play
with the appliance.
x Keep the appliance and its
cord out of the reach of
children.
x Do not use if the power cable,
the appliance or blades are
damaged or show signs of
wear. Contact the customer
care line.
x Do not leave the appliance
unattended as long as it is in
use. Extreme caution is
advised when the appliance is
being used near children and
people with limited physical,
sensory or mental capabilities.
x Before using the appliance for
the first time, carefully clean
parts which come into contact
with food. See details in the
“Cleaning and Care” section.
x After cleaning dry the
appliance and all parts before
connecting it to the mains
supply and before attaching
the accessories.
x Do not operate the appliance
without ingredients in the
measuring jug or chopping
bowl.
x Keep the appliance and
attachments, power cord or
plug away from hot surfaces,
flames, gas or electric burners
or hot oven surfaces and never
use with hot liquids or food.
x Avoid contact with moving
parts.
x Do not use the appliance for
anything other than its
intended use.
x Never use the appliance with
damp or wet hands.
x Only use the original parts or
parts recommended by the
manufacturer
x The appliance is designed to
process only common
household quantities.
x Make sure that there is no
danger that the power cord
could be accidentally pulled or
that someone could trip over it
when the appliance is in use.
x Position the appliance in such
a way that the plug is always
accessible.
x Keep hands and utensils out of
container while blending to
reduce the risk of severe injury
to persons or damage to the
blender.
x A spatula may be used to
remove the food from the
measuring jug and chopping
bowl. Never use bare hands to
remove food. Make sure that
the appliance is switched off
before doing this.
x Do not operate the appliance
with dry or hard foods or for ice
crushing as this may result in
dull blades.
x Remove hard substances from
food to prevent the blades and
the appliance from being
damaged.
x Remove bones and stones
from food to prevent the blades
and the appliance from getting
damaged.
x The use of accessories not
recommended by the
manufacturer may cause
injuries to persons.
x Do not use outdoors.
x Follow all warnings to prevent
injuries due to incorrect use.
x Save these instructions.

Never switch on the
appliance for longer
than necessary when
processing food.
Do not chop extremely
hard items such as
coffee beans, ice cubes,
nutmeg, grains and
bones. Remove stalks
from herbs, shells from
nuts, bones, tendons
and gristle from meat.
Prepare food in small
amounts. (max. 200 g).

Initial use
Clean the appliance parts before initial use
(see 4.1).
Use the appliance upright on a balanced,
flat, clean, dry and non-skid surface.
Do not use the appliance continuously for
more than 10 seconds. Turn off the device
when used for more than 10 seconds and
wait for 1 min. before operating again.
Blending and chopping with the blending
shaft
1. Insert blending shaft (13), by aligning (ź)
symbol on motor unit (3) with ( ) symbol
and turning clockwise. Make sure (ź)
symbol is aligned with ( ) symbol. Fit it into
its place, do not apply too much force.
2. Put processed ingredients (in small
pieces) in measuring container or a
container that you will use.
3. Immerse blending shaft (13) into the
container.
4. Plug in the appliance.
5. Run the appliance by pressing operation
button (2).
WARNING: Do not run the
appliance continuously for more
than 10 seconds at a time in
order to prevent overheating.
After running the appliance for 10
seconds, allow for it to cool down
for 1 minute before using it again.
Turn speed adjustment button (1)
to gradually increase speed.
Start mixing in low speed while
mixing ingredients. Ingredients
may be spattered when you start
with high speed.
You can get better results if you
make circular movements with
the appliance during processing.
6. Release the operation switch (2) when the
operation is finished. Unplug the appliance
and wait for it to stop completely.
7. Turn blending shaft (13) counterclockwise
and remove from motor unit (3) when it is
aligned with ( ) symbol.
WARNING:
Never touch the blades with your
bare hands.

Cut the food in small pieces.
1. Put the chopping bowl (8) on an even
surface.
2. Place the chopping blade (9) onto the
fixed shaft in the chopping bowl (8).
WARNING:
Be careful when inserting the
chopping blade (9) as it is very
sharp.
WARNING:
Do not touch the chopping blade
(9) with bare hands.
3. Place the ingredients in the chopping bowl
(8).
4. Put the chopping lid (6) on the chopping
bowl (8). Make sure that the claws on the
chopping lid are firmly locked on the bowl.
WARNING:
Never operate the appliance if
the chopping lid (6) is not
properly seated on the chopping
bowl (8), as this could damage
the chopping blade (9).
5. Put the motor unit (3) on the chopping lid
(6). Push the motor unit so that it is firmly
locked in place. Make sure the motor unit is
securely attached to the chopping lid.
During operation always hold the
chopping bowl (8) with one hand
to prevent it from tipping over.
6. Insert the plug into the wall
socket.

7. Press and hold down the operation button
(2). The appliance starts operating.
8. Use the speed adjustment button (1) to
select a speed.
Mixture Butter + Honey
Butter taken from the freezer (should be kept
in the freezer for min. 4 hrs. and cut into
pieces of sizes approximately 10-15 mm x
35-40 mm) and honey taken from the
refrigerator (should be kept in the refrigerator
min. 1 day).
Do not use the appliance
continuously for more than 10
seconds.
To achieve the best results press
the operation button (1)
intermittently.
9. Release the operation button (1)when you
finish the process and disconnect the power
plug from the wall socket. Remove the motor
unit (3) from the chopping lid (6) by pushing
the attachment release buttons at the sides
of the appliance and pulling it off. Take the
chopping lid off. Take the chopping blade (9)
out of the chopping bowl (8) carefully prior to
removing the chopped food.
Whisking
x You can use the balloon whisk (4) for
whipping cream and beating eggs.
x Never process more than 4 egg whites or
200 ml cream.
1. Insert the balloon whisk (4) into the whisk
holder (7) until it clicks into place.
2. Connect the motor unit (3) to the whisk
holder by putting the whisk holder (7) onto
the motor unit. Push the whisk holder to the
motor unit. Make sure that the whisk holder
is securely attached to the motor unit.
3. Put the ingredients that you would like to
process in the measuring jug (5) or a similar
bowl.
4. Insert the power plug into the wall socket.
5. Hold the balloon whisk (4) into the mixture
to be processed.
6. Press and hold the operation button (2).
The appliance starts operating.
7. Use the speed adjustment button (1) to
select a speed.
8. Move the appliance slowly up and down
and in circles to whisk the ingredients.
9. Release the operation button (1) when
you are finished and disconnect the power
plug from the wall socket. Remove the
mixture from the measuring jug (5). Remove
the motor unit (3) from the whisk holder (7)
by pushing the attachment release buttons
at the two sides of the appliance and pulling
it off.
Potato Masher
Attach the masher blade (11) at the tip of the
masher. Make sure it is fully seated in place.
Attach the motor head (14) to the masher by
attachment (12) rotating it clockwise.
Attach the masher attachment to the motor
unit (3) by rotating it clockwise until it is
locked.
Immerse the masher (12) in well-boiled
potatoes and operate it. Mash the potatoes
well with slightly circular and up and down
movements.
WARNING:
After operating the appliance
with the potatoe masher for 1
minute, allow the appliance to
cool down for 30 seconds.
WARNING:
Make sure that the potatoes
which you are going to use in the
masher are well-boiled. If they
are too hard then the masher
may get damaged.

WARNING: Never use petrol,
solvents or abrasive cleaners,
metal objects or hard brushes to
clean the appliance.
WARNING: Do not touch the
chopping blades (9) with bare
hands. The blades are very
sharp. Use a brush!
WARNING: Never put the
motor unit (3) or power cord in
water or any other liquids and
never hold them under running
water.
Storage
x If you do not plan to use the appliance for
a long period of time, store it carefully.
x Make sure the appliance is unplugged
and completely dry.
x Store the appliance in a cool, dry place.
x Make sure the appliance is kept out of the
reach of children.
Warning: Repairs must be
carried out by authorised
persons only. Repairs carried out
by incompetent persons create a
user risk.
1. Unplug the appliance before cleaning.
2. Make sure the appliance is at a complete
stop and remove the blending shaft (13).
3. Wipe the appliance motor unit (3) with a
damp cloth.
4. Immediately after using, clean the
blending attachment, chopping lid (6),
potato masher, potato masher blade (11)
and whisk holder (7) with warm, soapy
water and dry them thoroughly. Never
wash them in the dishwasher.
5. Dry all parts of the appliance after
cleaning.
WARNING:
Do not wash the blending shaft
(13) in dishwasher.
WARNING: Never immerse
inner part of blending shaft (13),
the motor unit (3) or power cable
in water or in any other liquid.
Handling and transportation
x During handling and transportation, carry
the appliance in its original packaging.
The packaging of the appliance protects it
against physical damages.
x Do not place heavy loads on the
appliance or the packaging. The
appliance may be damaged.
x Dropping the appliance may render it non-
operational or cause permanent damage.

Warranty

This certificate is issued by DEFY APPLIANCES (PTY) LIMITED manufacturers of Defy
and Ocean products, hereinafter the Company, to the original purchaser only, of the
appliance described on the certificate and shall constitute the only warranty given in
respect of this appliance.
The Company warrants to the original purchaser that for a period of ONE YEAR from date
of purchase the appliance is free from defect under normal domestic use, both in
workmanship and material, subject to the following conditions.
1. Carry-in service. Small appliances are repaired in our service centres and are not
collected from the customers home. Faulty units must be delivered to the purchasing
dealer or to the nearest Company Service Centre for warranty repairs.
2. Vitreous enamelware, fuses and lamps are specifically excluded from these warranties. It
is an express condition of these warranties that the purchaser takes due care and
attention in the use and maintenance of the appliance. Abuse, misuse in conflict with
operating instructions, connection to incorrect voltages and subjection to commercial use
shall release the Company from its obligations.
3. This warranty shall become void and cease to operate if the appliance is dismantled by,
or any repairs to the appliance are effected by any persons not duly authorised by the
Company, or if substitute parts not approved by the Company are used in the appliance,
or if the serial number of the appliance is removed.
4. The Company shall not be responsible for damages resulting from fire, flood, civil
disturbances or any Act of God. The Company shall not, in terms of these warranties be
responsible nor held liable for any consequential loss or damage of any kind caused by or
due to the failure or malfunction of the appliance. The Company shall not be responsible
for damages caused by insect and/or animal infestation.
5. The Company shall not be responsible for transportation or other costs other than those
incurred within the provisions of Point 1 of this Certificate.
6. For warranties in the Republic of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, please
contact the customer care line. Please refer to the previous page for respective
South African branches and Sub-Saharan Africa branches.
7. Where service is requested under warranty and no fault or defect can be found by the
Company, all costs incurred will be for the purchaser's account.
8. This Certificate as well as your invoice will serve as proof of purchase. For the purpose
of warranty, it will be essential to produce this Certificate and invoice. Failure to do so, will
render the purchaser liable for service costs.
KEEP THIS CERTIFICATE AND SALES INVOICE AS PROOF OF
PURCHASE FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES.
