Introduction
This document provides specific information for the Dell PowerConnect 3324/3348 Switch system, firmware version 1.0.0.52.
It is recommended that this release note be thoroughly reviewed prior to installing or upgrading of this product.

The firmware image version should be 1.0.1.42 on the PowerConnect 3324/3348. The boot prom image should be 1.0.0.13. Refer to
the PowerConnect 3324/3348 Getting Started Guide for instructions on loading the boot PROM software and updating the firmware
image.

Added Functionality In this Release
Version 1.0.1.42 is a maintenance release that fixes problems of the first software release; it does not add any new
functionality.
Note: Network Manager Versions 1.0.0.71 and 1.0.0.73 do not support the discovery of 3324/3348
switches running firmware version 1.1.0.x. In order to use Network Manager with 3324/3348
switches running 1.1.0.x, you must upgrade your installation to Network Manager 1.0.1.87 or later.

Issues Resolved
Version 1.0.1.42 maintenance release fixes the following problems of the previous version 1.0.0.52:
Title Description
Multicast traffic does not transmit via
STATIC/LACP trunk if one lag segment is
removed
When Multicast traffic is transmitted via one of Static/LACP LAG one of the LAG
members is physically disconnected, all the traffic is transmitted via the second LAG
port member, but it is not forward to a client.
DVMRP frame recognition DVMRP frame is unidentified by IGMP Snooping.
Mirroring ports selection PowerConnect 3348 does not support port mirroring from/to ports 1-24 and G1
to/from any port of another PowerConnect 3324/3348. Mirroring is also not supported
to/from G1 to/from G2 in the same PowerConnect 3348.
Storm Control rate accuracy on all ports PowerConnect 3324/3348 storm control may practically operate with lower rate value
than defined or, in some cases, rate fluctuations may be experienced.
Negating storm control The negate command no port storm-control enable broadcast fastethernet does not
set the configured port back to wire speed capability.
Untagged General port membership in
more than one VLAN
An untagged general port which is a member of more than one VLAN changes its
PVID after reboot. The new PVID will always be the PVID of the first VLAN (lowest
number).
DHCP Client problem DHCP client may not work after reboot followed by massive VLAN configuration
(massive VLAN configuration means all ports added to all 248 VLANs).
Bind ACE to a MAC-based ACL Error may occur while attempting to bind an ACE to a MAC-based ACL.
Deletion of last remaining rule in the
Profile Rules Table in Access Profiles
The last remaining rule in the Profile Rules Table in Access Profiles cannot be
removed. Possible workaround is to remove it by removing the entire management
ACL from the access profiles screen.
AAA Authentication methods When using the AAA authentication command, each authentication method can only
be used once however, there are no errors if this is attempted.
Refresh error in ACL Bindings Table
screen
In ACL Bindings Table screen, performing copy from port to other selected ports
creates a refresh error.
After the refresh error, all stack ports get the result of the ‘copy’ action and not ports
per Unit.
Configuring Gigabit port half-duplex PowerConnect 3324/3348 does not allow for configuring Copper gigabit port to 1000
/ half duplex using the embedded web management however, it is possible from CLI.
Community added although no IP was
defined
When creating a community in web, by default the Management Station button is set.
The web-based management allows defining community with IP. The result is that
although an error message (“You must enter a management address”) is prompted
the community is still added to the community list.
ACE 'action' pull down menu is grayed
out and not selectable
When configuring via the Web-based Management Switch/Network Security/MAC
Based ACL, the new screen is “Add ACE to MAC-Based ACL”, assuming an ACL
name exists, select ‘ Show All’. This will take you to ‘ACEs associated with MAC-
ACL’ screen. Assuming an ‘ACE No’ exists, the “ACTION” selectable pull down menu
is ‘grayed out’ and is not a usable feature.
Learned MAC addresses on a reserved
VLAN
A MAC address, which was learned on a reserved VLAN (VID 4089-4094, VLAN that
cannot be created by a user) is written to configuration when locking this port (can be
seen by the show running config command)
Consequently, when attempting to download this configuration file, the device does
not allow to configure reserved VLANs and the download process fails
SSH Although the SSH is enabled by default, PowerConnect 3324/3348 do not
automatically generate and store keys.
Show startup config command Show startup config command shows the commands in the order in which they were
entered.
Configuration download problem with big
interface ports range
PowerConnect 3324/3348 devices are unable to download configuration file to
remote computer when interface ports range is bigger than 512 characters (line
length).
Copying extremely long configuration file
by TFTP may not copy the entire
Copying extremely long configuration file using TFTP may not copy the entire
configuration contents of specific VLANs.

configuration file Also, performing the command Show startup config after the configuration file has
been copied to startup also generates the following error: "%LCLI-E-MIB2CLI: Illegal
Configuration, process valid commands only":
Error packets during reboot While rebooting, PowerConnect 3324/3348 sends error packet on the 1000Gbps
uplink port.

Auto-Negotiation
Title Description
Changing port to “no negation” or auto-
negotiation disabled.
Auto MDI/MDIX parameter must be manually set [on/off] before speed/duplex
settings can be changed
Port speed and duplex in show running
config while in auto negotiation mode
If speed/duplex is forced with “no negotiation” and port is then changed back to
“negotiation” mode. The command show running config details the admin speed and
duplex configuration of a port although auto negotiation is enabled. The
speed/duplex configuration is applied to the port once auto negotiation is disabled.
Flow Control

Flow control between PowerConnect
3324/3348 units
In order to assure PowerConnect 3324/3348 internal management traffic that
traverses between the units, flow control does not operate across inter-unit stacking
links, specifically ports G2 of each PowerConnect 3324/3348 unit.
Also, flow control cannot operate between links of ports 1-24, G1 and 25-48,G2 of a
PowerConnect 3348 unit.
802.1p Class of Service
Title Description
802.1p priority maximum bandwidth
across the stack on Gigabit ports
Since the PowerConnect 3324/3348 interconnecting stacking link bandwidth is
1Gbps, and it is used also for stack management traffic, all exceeding traffic will be
discarded.
QoS
Title Description
Queues scheduler may misrepresent
queues weight
PowerConnect 3324/3348 queue scheduler may misrepresent the predefined queue
weights when packet sizes in egress queues are different.
The weighting is done by packet, not by bandwidth.
CLI
Title Description
More ports or units listed than actual
configuration.
To allow configuration of all ports, some configuration options may show “ghost”
ports though the port will not be available for use.
Web-based Management
Title Description
Web-based management functioning
during stack disconnection
During PowerConnect 3324/3348 stack disconnection, Web-based management
does not present the current information of the stack. Once recovered, Web-based
management refreshes the stack information and any setup activities that might
have been done during the disconnection period, and applies it to its respected
PowerConnect 3324/3348 unit.
For additional information about PowerConnect 3324/3348 stack refer to “Stacking

Access Control List (ACL)
Title Description
Deleting Access Control Lists An Access Control List (ACL) can be deleted even if it is bound to an interface.
Deletion of the ACL results in automatic unbinding of the ACL from all interfaces to
which it had been bound.
If/when the interface is again created; the ACL will automatically be bound to it.
For example: create VLAN n, bind ACL x to it. If VLAN n is deleted, the ACL
remains “bound” fictively. When VLAN n is recreated, ACL x is “automatically”
bound to it.
Work-around: Delete the ACL and re-create it.
Clock Settings
Title Description
Setting Time and date. PowerConnect 3324/3348 does not have a real time Clock. So date and time must
be set if device is rebooted.
Stacking
Title Description
Stacking Synchronization and Bridge
initialization
Stack ring must be fully synchronized before master initializes bridge. If stack ring is
open (cables disconnected) for more than two minutes a reboot will occur. Bridge is
not enabled after reboot if stack ring is still disconnected.

Stacking member combo port with LAG
100/full/no negotiate loses link after
reload
PowerConnect 3324/3348 stack member copper combo port set to 100/full
duplex/no negotiation with LAG connected to PowerConnect 3248 or 3024 does not
regain link after reloading.
General
Title Description
Ping % loss of packets display issue Port transition to forwarding state will take 30 secs. But it is not related the %loss
display when "ping" is terminated. Packet % loss is always displayed as 100% even
though a single packet is lost. The calculation of % loss might be wrong or wrong
value is displayed.
Combo port failover from fiber to copper
triggers STP
If a combo port is connected to another switch with both fiber and copper, the fiber
takes precedence. If the fiber link is removed, spanning tree activates and the link
will be down until STP has converged. When the fiber is reinserted, STP is not
triggered, but traffic transitions to the fiber link. Removing the fiber link should
ideally not cause STP to converge, just as adding the fiber link does not.
RMON Counter Rollover value issue RMON rollover is not happening. Counter value is constant once it reaches the
value 2147483647.This issue is observed for per port and per port channel also.
Oversized packets counter is not getting
updated.
Oversized packets counter is not incrementing. It is displaying zero
WBI - Improperly applying RADIUS
response on login
When authenticating using RADIUS, only the Cisco av-pair attribute is used to
determine access-level priveleges. In result, when the account has been configured
using standard IETF attributes rather than the Cisco specific attributes, an account
with only level 1 privilege is granted full access to the WBI. This includes the ability
to change settings.
Unwanted message is displayed for
"show logging" command always.

GARP timer configuration issue. In GARP leaveAll timer configuration, switch is not allowing to configure value up to
leave timer value + 9. Switch is allowing with difference between leave and leaveALl
timer as 10. Ex: Leave timer – 5000 leave all timer – 5010 and join timer value
as 200.
Config shows multiple Obsolete settings
for a single port in LAG setup
When configuring Link Agg, I get multiple 'obsolete' port speed settings showing in
the configuration. For example ( see attachments below ) my port-channel 1 is
showing in the config at speed 1000 ( meaning it is forced ), the ports that make up
port-channel 1 are ( 2/g1,3/g1) and they are showing in the config to be set to speed
100 ( forced ). However, when you do a "show status " command on either the
port-channel or the individual ports, you will see that they are both actually running
with ' Negotiation ' ENABLED
QoS WRR configuration is not effective. Traffic is not distributed as per the mapped priorities and queues and their
corresponding WRR values.
WRR configuration is effective when all priorities packets are sent with 100%
utilization (100 Mbps) speed from SMB. In other cases, the traffic distribution is
happening based on percentage of speed at which the packets were sent, but not
on the WRR configurations.
Changing user password silently changes
priviledge level
From CLI changing a users password with level 15 privilege is silently changing the
priviledge level to 0. Changing the variable, "password" should not change the
priviledge level. Testing from WBI does NOT have this same affect, and also
testing of other third party vendors does not result in this variable being changed.

Console port speed not displayed with
"show line console command"
Console speed not displayed when "show line console" command is entered from
the CLI interface.
Port Mirroring
Title Description
Gigabit ports mirroring in stacking mode In cases where both source and destination ports are Gigabit ports, some of the
packets may be dropped due to the stacking management traffic.
Tagged traffic in port mirroring All traffic on the mirroring target port is always tagged (even if originally it was sent
untagged).
Mirroring of PAUSE frames Destination port does not receive PAUSE frames.
Broadcast Storm Control
Title Description
Storm control on G2 port Since the G2 stacking port is used for internal management traffic, storm control is
disabled on the G2 stacking port.
Link Aggregation (LAG)
Title Description
Joining a port to a LAG Joining a port to a LAG is possible only if:

The port does not belong to any VLAN.

Port in LAG MAC addresses learning When a port is a member of LACP LAG under traffic, MAC addresses are learned
on the port until it actually joins to the LAG.

PowerConnect 3324/3348 web-based management can be operated only by
Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.5 and above operating in Microsoft Windows
2000/XP and Netscape version 7.01 operating in Linux Red-Hat 6.0.
Asset-tag setting Asset-tag value setting is not possible from the embedded web management; it can
only be set from the CLI.

Password recovery Due to security reasons, password recovery is not available from a Telnet
connection, it is possible to recover password using the serial connection (see
“Password Recovery” in the PowerConnect 3324/3348 User Guide).

When switching working mode from stacked mode to standalone and vice versa the
configuration file may be corrupted.

Title Description
SSL certificate SSL Version 2 standard is not supported.
Certificates are created by the switch’s software, and are not signed certificates.
SSL certificates are created manually through a CLI command.
The maximum number of SSL sessions is 12. The maximum number of web user
connections is 3.
SSL certificates retain IP address after it
is removed
The SSL certificate generated by the PowerConnect 3324/3348 is bound to the
lowest IP address defined in the device. This IP retains even if the IP address
involved is removed from the switch.
