Introduction
Directions For Use
Please read carefully and completely before operating unit.
DENTSPLY®Professional is an ISO13485 certied company. e
Cavitron®Select™ System is classied by Underwriters Laboratories
Inc. with respect to electric shock, re, mechanical hazards only in
accordance UL 2601-1 1 and Can/CSA C22.2 NO. 601.1.
e Scaling System operates by converting ordinary AC house
current into high frequency current. e ultrasonic system consists
of two parts: an insert, and the SPS™ (Sustained Performance
System) electronic system. e system incorporates two closed
loops. One loop provides automatic tuning (operating frequency
is adjusted to be at resonance for each insert), the second loop
automatically controls the tip stroke over dierent working
conditions. e scaler produces 30,000 microscopically small
strokes per second at the insert’s working tip. is combined with
acoustic eects of the coolant water, produces a synergistic action
that literally “powers away” the heaviest calculus deposits while
providing exceptional operator and patient comfort.
e Pump/Reservoir accessory for the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ is an
optional lavage dispenser. Footswitch plug, handpiece plug, water
tube and power supply plug are removed from the Scaler before
mating with the Pump/Reservoir. e Scaler is snapped together
with the Pump/Reservoir. e footswitch plug, handpiece plug
and power supply plug are inserted into mating receptacles at the
rear of the Pump/Reservoir. Ultrasonic signal, footswitch and DC
power connections between the units are made via an edgecard
connector at the rear of the Scaler and the front of the Pump
module. e Reservoir has a capacity of 450 ml. Fluid from the
Reservoir is propelled from the Reservoir Bottle with 15–19 psig
compressed air generated by an internal diaphragm pump.
ON/OFF of the lavage is controlled through an internal solenoid
valve. Fluid to the Handpiece passes directly from the Pump/
Reservoir to the Handpiece. No uid passes through the Cavitron®
Select™ SPS™ when used with this accessory. Flow through any
insert in the Handpiece will be greater than 40 cc/m water when
adjusted to maximum.

Section 1: Indications for Use
Section 2: Contraindications and Warnings
2.1 Contraindications
• Ultrasonic Systems should not be used for restorative dental
procedures involving the condensation of amalgam.
2.2 Warnings
• e use of High Volume Saliva Evacuation to reduce
the quantity of aerosols released during treatment is
highly recommended.
• Prior to beginning treatment, patients should rinse with
an antimicrobial such as Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.12%.
Rinsing with an antimicrobial reduces the chance of
infection and reduces the number of microorganisms
released in the form of aerosols during treatment.
• It is the responsibility of the Dental Healthcare
Professional to determine the appropriate uses of this
product and to understand:
– the health of each patient,
– the dental procedures being undertaken,
– and applicable industry and governmental agency
recommendations for infection control in dental
healthcare settings,
– requirements, and regulations for safe practice of
dentistry; and
– these Directions for Use in their entirety, including
Section 4 Precautions, Section 6 Infection Control, and
Section 10 System Care.
• Where asepsis is required or deemed appropriate in the best
professional judgment of the Dental Healthcare
Professional, this product should not be used, unless
used in combination with a sterile lavage kit (P/N 81340).
• Handle Cavitron insert with care. Improper handling of
insert, specically the insert tip, may result in injury and/or
cross contamination.
• Failure to follow properly validated sterilization processes
and approved aseptic techniques for Cavitron inserts may
result in cross contamination.
• Persons tted with cardiac pacemakers, debrillators
and other active implanted medical devices, have been
cautioned that some types of electronic equipment
might interfere with the operation of the device.
Although no instance of interference has ever been
reported to DENTSPLY, we recommend that the
handpiece and cables be kept 6 to 9 inches (15 to 23
cm) away from any device and their leads during use.

operative dentistry. It is used to debride light to heavy calculus and plaque deposits from tooth and root surfaces.

• Insucient water ow could result in elevated water
and tip temperature. When operated at the input water
temperature specied in the Water Line Requirements
Section 7.1 and with sucient water ow, the water and
tip temperature should not exceed 50o C (122o F). Failure
to follow recommendations for environmental operating
conditions, including input water temperature, could
result in injury to patients or users. If temperature is
elevated, increase water ow. If temperature remains
elevated, discontinue use.
• During boil-water advisories, this product should not
be operated as an open water system (e.g. connected
to a public water system). A Dental Healthcare
Professional should disconnect the system from the
central water source. e Cavitron DualSelect system
can be attached to this unit and operated as a closed
system until the advisory is cancelled. When the
advisory is cancelled, ush all incoming waterlines
from the public water system (e.g. faucets, waterlines
and dental equipment) in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions for a minimum of 5 minutes.

Section 3: Precautions
3.1 Systems Precautions
• Do not place the System on or next to a radiator or other
heat source. Excessive heat may damage the System’s
electronics. Place the System where air is free to circulate on
all sides and beneath it.
• e System is portable, but must be handled with care when
moving.
• Equipment ushing and dental water supply system
maintenance are strongly recommended. See Section 5.2
Water Supply Recommendations.
• Close the water shut-o valve to the System every night
before leaving the oce.
• When used as an open water system, use of an in-line water
lter is recommended.
• Always ensure that the electrical connections on the
handpiece cable and the Steri-Mate® handpiece are clean
and dry before assembling them for use.
• Never operate scaler without uid owing through hand-
piece.
WARNING: No modication of this equipment is allowed.
3.2 Procedural Precautions
• e Cavitron Select SPS unit works with Cavitron inserts as
a system, and was designed and tested to deliver maximum
performance for all currently available Cavitron brand ultra-
sonic inserts. Companies that manufacture, repair or modify
inserts carry the sole responsibility for proving the ecacy
and performance of their products when used as a part of
this system. Users are cautioned to understand the operating
limits of their insert before using in a clinical setting.
• Like a toothbrush, ultrasonic inserts “wear out” with use.
Inserts with just 2 mm of wear lose about 50% of their
scaling eciency. In general, it is recommended that
ultrasonic inserts be discarded and replaced after 2 mm of
wear to maintain optimal eciency and avoid breakage.
• If excessive wear is noted, or the insert has been bent,
reshaped or otherwise damaged, discard the
insert immediately.
• Ultrasonic insert tips that have been bent, damaged, or
reshaped are susceptible to in-use breakage and should
be discarded and replaced immediately.
• Retract the lips, cheeks and tongue to prevent contact with
the insert tip whenever it is placed in the patient’s mouth.
• Water should be used for all scaling procedures. Water ow
is adjustable from less than 10ml to greater than 60ml per
minute.
• e DENTSPLY®power supply shipped with this unit is
approved for use with devices and must be used to operate
this system.
3.3 Precautions for Cavitron®Select™
Reservoir System
• Do not place the System on or next to a radiator or other
heat source. Excessive heat may damage the System’s
electronics. Place the System where air is free to circulate on
all sides and beneath it.
• e System is portable, but must be handled with care when
moving.
• Equipment ushing and dental water supply system
maintenance are strongly recommended. See Section 10:
System Care.
• Pour liquid into the cap opening of the reservoir bottle. To
prevent potential leaking at the cap, do not overll bottle
with liquid into the neck of the bottle. Ensure cap is tightly
sealed.
• Turn unit o before relling reservoir bottle to prevent
potential leaking of uid. Turn cap a 1/4revolution to release
air pressure and then remove the cap completely.

Section 5: Infection Control
5.1 General Infection Control
Recommendations
• For operator and patient safety, carefully practice the
infection control procedures detailed in the Infection
Control Information Booklet accompanying your
System. Additional booklets can be obtained by calling
Customer Service at 1-800-989-8826, Monday through
Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (Eastern Time). For
areas outside the U.S., contact your local DENTSPLY
Professional representative.
• As with high speed handpieces and other dental devices,
the combination of water and ultrasonic vibration from
the Cavitron Select SPS Ultrasonic Scaler will create
aerosols. Following the procedural guidelines in Section 9
of this manual can eectively control and minimize aerosol
dispersion.
5.2 Water Supply Recommendations
• It is highly recommended that all dental water supply
systems conform to applicable CDC (Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention) and ADA (American Dental
Association) standards, and that all recommendations be
followed in terms of ushing, chemical ushing, and general
infection control procedures. See Section 6.1 and 10.
• As a medical device, this product must be installed
in accordance with applicable local, regional, and
national regulations, including guidelines for water quality
(e.g. drinking water). As an open water system, such
regulation may require this device to be connected to
a centralized water control device. e Cavitron®Select
Reservoir System may be installed to allow this unit to
operate as a closed water system.
Section 6: Installation Instructions for Cavitron®Select™
SPS™ Ultrasonic Scaler
6.1 Water Line Requirements
• A water supply line with user-replaceable lter is
supplied with your system. See Section 10 System Care
for replacement instructions.
• Incoming water supply line pressure to the system must
be 20 psi (138 kPa) to 40 psi (275 kPa). If your dental
water system’s supply line pressure is above 40 psi,
install a water pressure regulator on the water supply line
to your Cavitron Plus Ultrasonic Scaler.
• A manual shut-o valve on the dental water system
supply line should be used so that the water can be
completely shut-o when the oce is unoccupied.
• In addition to the water lter supplied, it is recommended
that a lter in the dental water system supply line be
installed so that any particulates in the water supply will
be trapped before reaching the Cavitron system.
• After the above installations are completed on the dental
water supply system, the dental oce water line should
be thoroughly ushed prior to connection to the Cavitron
system.
• Incoming water temperature to the Cavitron System
should not exceed 25˚C (77˚F). If needed a device
should be installed to maintain a temperature within this
specication, or a Cavitron DualSelect Dispensing
System attached to allow this system to be operated
as a closed water system.
6.2 Electrical Requirements
• Incoming power to the system must be 100 volts AC to
240 volts AC, single phase 50/60 Hz capable of
supplying 1.0 amps.
• e system power should be supplied through the AC
powercordprovidedwithyoursystem.
WARNING: To advoid risk of electric shock, this equipment
must only be connected to a supply mains with protective
earth.

6.3 Unpacking the System
Carefully unpack your Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler and verify
that all components and accessories are included:
1. Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler.
2. Detachable AC Power Cord set.
3. Steri-Mate Detachable Sterilizable Handpiece.
4. Steri-Mate Flow Control Detachable Handpiece Cable

6.4 Power Cord/Power Connection
• Verify the Power Control knob is set to the OFF position
before proceeding.
• Plug the detachable AC cord into the back of the Medically
Approved Power Supply.
• Plug the power supply outlet into the back of the System.
• Plug the 3 prong grounded plug into an approved outlet.
• e Cavitron System should not be positioned such that
access to the power input and AC power cords are limited.
6.5 Foot Control Cable Assembly
Connection
Align the Foot Control plug with the receptacle on the back of the
System and push it in until rmly seated.

6.6 Water Supply Line Connection
• Push the blue hose into the orange water receptacle until the
hose cannot be pushed in any further.
• Connect the free end of the system’s water supply line to the
oce water supply line.
• Inspect all connections to make certain there are no leaks.
• To remove water line from Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler,
turn o or disconnect water supply line FIRST, then push
on outer orange ring of the outlet and gently pull out
water hose.
6.7 Lavage Control Detachable
Handpiece Cable Assembly
Connection
• Plug the Handpiece outlet into the receptacle on the back of
the System.
• Holding the Handpiece Cable Assembly seat male connector
into appropriate female connector.
• Once seated, snap male connector into female connector by
pushing on the end of the male connector.
• Rotate Lavage Control on the handpiece to middle setting.
• Turn on the on/o switch (power adjustment).

7.4 Assembling the System
• Remove protective sticker from edge card connector on the scaler.
• Rinse Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle before using.
• Insert Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle into Cavitron®
Select™ Reservoir Pump and rotate clockwise until bottle
locks into place.
• Connect Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler to Cavitron®Select™
Reservoir System. Insert male edge card connector on Cavi-
tron®Select™ Reservoir Pump into Cavitron®SPS™ Select™
Scaler opening on the back of the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™
Scaler. Press down on the top of the
Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler (directly above power
setting knob) until the black striker knob located on the
Reservoir Bottle locks into place.
• To detach Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler from Cavitron®
Select™ Reservoir Pump and Bottle, lift up on the front of
the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler (below power setting knob
and Power/Boost light). After the striker knob is unsnapped,
pull the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler away from the Cavit-
ron®Select™ Reservoir Pump.
NOTE: Always disengage striker knob before pulling theCa-
vitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler away from the Cavitron®Select™
Reservoir Pump.

7.6 Foot Control Cable Assembly
Connection
Align the Foot Control plug with the receptacle on the back
of the Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Pump and push it in until
rmly seated.
7.7 Lavage Control Detachable

• Plug the Handpiece outlet into the receptacle on the back of
the Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Pump.
• Holding the Handpiece Cable Assembly seat male connector
into appropriate female connector.
• Once seated, snap male connector into female connector by
pushing on the end of the male connector.
• Rotate Lavage Control on the handpiece to middle setting.
Turn on the on/o switch (power adjustment). is
energizes the system and the ultrasonic unit is ready for
operation.

Section 10: Techniques for Use
10.1 Patient Positioning
• For optimal access to both the upper and lower arches, the
backrest of the chair should be adjusted as for other dental
procedures. is assures patient comfort and
clinician visibility.
• Have the patient turn their head to the right or left. Also
position their chin up or down depending upon the quad-
rant and surface being treated. Evacuate irrigant using either
a saliva ejector or High Volume Evacuator (HVE).
10.2 Performing Ultrasonic
Scaling Procedures
NOTE: Refer to the Infection Control Information card
supplied with your System and Section 11 of this manual
for general procedures to be followed at the beginning of
each day and between patients.
• Follow precautions listed in the general and ultrasonic sec-
tions of 3.2 Procedural Precautions
• e edges of Cavitron®Ultrasonic Inserts are intentionally
rounded so there is little danger of tissue laceration with
proper ultrasonic scaling technique. Whenever the insert tip
is placed in the patient’s mouth, the lips, cheek and tongue
should be retracted to prevent accidental prolonged contact
with the activated tip.
• Turn power level control to select ultrasonic power level
for operation. Clockwise increase the system power. Power
level will increase throughout the full range of the control.
Hold the handpiece over a sink or drain. Depress foot pedal
to rst postion to activate the system. Check water spray to
verify uid is reaching the working end of the insert tips.
Adjust the water lavage control under the water (lavage)
ows with a rapid drip or small spray. Highter water ow
setting provide cooler irrigation.
• It may be necessary to adjust lavage with the system in
“Boost” mode (Foot Control fully depressed) so ade-
quate uid will be available to cool tip to tooth inter-
face.
• In general, it is suggested that a “feather-light-touch” be
used both supra- and subgingivally. e motion of the
activated tip and acoustic eects of the irrigating uid, in
most cases, is adequate to remove even the most tenacious
calculus.
• Periodically check the Cavitron®Ultrasonic Insert for wear
with the DENTSPLY®Insert Eciency Indicator.
• e use of a saliva ejector or High Volume Evacuator (HVE)
is recommended during all procedures.
• Set the System’s Power Adjustment knob to the lowest power
setting for the application and the selected insert.
10.3 Patient Comfort Considerations
Reasons for sensitivity
• Incorrect tip placement. Point should be directed away from root
surfaces.

11.2 Weekly Maintenance: Cavitron®
Select™ SPS™ Ultrasonic Scaler
with Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir
System
1. Remove Cavitron®Insert from Handpiece.
2. Turn the System OFF.
3. Detach Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler from
Reservoir System.
4. Detach Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle from Pump (see
Section 6 for complete instructions).
5. Empty entire contents of Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle.
6. Replace empty Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle to Pump.
7. Carefully lock Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle into Cavit-
ron®Select™ Reservoir Pump.
8. Connect Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler to Cavitron®Select™
Reservoir System (see Section 6 for complete instructions).
9. Turn the System ON.
10. Hold the Handpiece (without the Cavitron®Insert installed)
upright over a sink or drain.
11. To air purge the water line, operate the Cavitron®Select™
SPS™ Scaler for at least 30 seconds. (is will eliminate uid
to prevent it from settling in the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™
Scaler for extended periods of time. is may also help
decrease the chance of bio-lm formations in the
Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ water lines.)
12. Turn the System OFF.
13. Prepare a 1:10 hypochlorite (NaOCL) solution by mixing
1 part 5.25% sodium hypochlorite with 10 parts tap water.
14. Remove cap and pour this 1:10 solution into the Cavitron®
Select™ SPS™ Reservoir Bottle. Do not overll with solution
(see Section 3.3 for complete instructions).
15. Securely replace cap on Bottle.
16. Turn the System ON.
17. Hold the Handpiece (without the Cavitron®Insert installed)
upright over a sink or drain.
18. Operate the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler for at least
10 seconds.
19. Turn the System OFF.
20. Leave the unit undisturbed for at least 10 minutes, BUT FOR
NO MORE THAN 30 MINUTES to allow sodium hypochlo-
rite solution to disinfect the system. As a suggestion, place a
sign which states that the System is being disinfected and
should not be used.
21. Unscrew cap and discard disinfectant solution.
22. Fill Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle with tap or distilled
water. Do not overll with liquid (see Section 3.3 for
complete instructions).
23. Turn the System ON.
24. Operate the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Scaler for at least
60 seconds.
25. Turn o system. Detach Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ scaler from
Select™ Reservoir System.
26. Detach Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle from Pump
(see Section 6 for complete instructions).
27. Autoclave Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle.
NOTE: ALL CHEMICALS MUST BE FLUSHED FROM THE
SYSTEM BEFORE IT IS READY FOR PATIENT USE.
11.3 Water Line Filter Maintenance
When the water line lter becomes discolored, the lter should
be replaced to prevent reduced water ow to the Cavitron®Select™
SPS™ System. A 10-pack of replacement lters is available by
ordering Part Number 90158 from your local DENTSPLY®
distributor.
1. Verify the system is turned o.
2. Disconnect the water supply hose from the dental oce
water supply. If a quick-disconnect connector is attached to
the end of the hose, relieve the water pressure by pressing the
tip of the connector in an appropriate container and drain
the water.
3. Grasp the ttings on either side of the lter disk and twist
counterclockwise. Remove the lter section from either side
of the water hose.
4. Install the replacement lter onto the water hose ttings.
e lter should be positioned to match up with the correct
hose tting.
5. Hand tighten the two hose ttings in a clockwise direction.
Reconnect the water supply hose, operate the unit to bleed
the air and test for leaks.
11.4 Pump Lavage Filter Maintenance
When the pump lavage lter becomes discolored, the lter
should be replaced to prevent reduced water ow to the Cavitron®
Select™ SPS™ System. A 10-pack of replacement lters is available
by ordering Part Number 90191 from your local DENTSPLY®
distributor.
1. Empty the contents of the Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir bottle
and disconnect it from the pump.
2. Remove the old lter and discard.
3. Insert the small end of the new lter until lter is seated.
11.5 O-Ring Maintenance
Before placing Cavitron®Inserts into the handpiece, perform-
ing the following steps will increase the O-ring life on Cavitron®
Inserts:
• Fill entire handpiece with water.
• Lubricate O-ring (black or green rubber material) with water.
• Gently twist the insert down into the handpiece until the insert
is fully seated in place.

1. Open the manual shut-o valve on the dental oce water
supply system.
2. Turn the System ON using the Power Control knob (see
illustration in Section 7). Verify the Power Indicator Light
is lighted.
3. Connect a freshly sterilized handpiece to its matching cable
connector. Set the Power Control knob to full power.
4. Set the Lavage Control on Handpiece to maximum.
5. Hold the Handpiece (without the Cavitron®Insert installed)
upright over a sink or drain. Activate the Foot Control and
ush the water line for at least 2 minutes.
6. Place a sterilized Cavitron®Insert into the Handpiece. Set the
Power and Lavage Control knobs to your preferred
operating position.
Start-Up Procedures at the beginning of the day (Cavitron®Select™
SPS™ Ultrasonic Scaler with Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir System):
1. Carefully lock Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle into Cavit-
ron®Select™ Reservoir Pump.
2. Fill Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir Bottle with tap, distilled water,
or medicament. Replace Cavitron®Select™ Bottle cap.
3. Connect Cavitron®Select™ Scaler to Cavitron®Select™ Reser-
voir Pump and Bottle (see Section 6 for complete instruc-
tions).
4. Turn the System ON using the Power Control knob (see
illustration in Section 7). Verify the Power Indicator Light

foot control and cable assembly as instructed in the Cavitron
Systems Infection Control Procedure booklet (#81158). To
maintain sterility of the Steri-Mate® handpiece, store it in the
steam sterilization pouch until needed.
2. Connect a freshly sterilized handpiece to its matching cable
connector. Hold the Handpiece over a sink or drain and
ush the water line of the unit as above at maximum water
ow for 30 seconds.
3. Place a freshly sterilized insert into the handpiece.
* NOTE: Water-based disinfection solutions are preferred. Some
alcohol-based disinfectant solutions may be harmful and may
discolor plastic materials.
Between Patients (Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ Ultrasonic Scaler with
Cavitron®Select™ Reservoir System):
1. Follow steps 1–2 listed in Between Patients (Cavitron®Select™
SPS™ Ultrasonic Scaler).
2. With the power OFF, unscrew cap and ll Cavitron®Select™
Reservoir Bottle with tap, distilled water, or medicament.
3. Do not overll Bottle with liquid into the neck of the Bottle.
Securely screw cap back on Bottle.
4. Place a freshly sterilized insert into the handpiece.
Shut-Down Procedures at the end of the day (Cavitron®Select™
SPS™ Ultrasonic Scaler):
1. Turn the System OFF.
2. Remove all ultrasonic inserts and handpiece used. Clean
and sterilize inserts and handpiece and clean and disinfect all
the surfaces of the cabinet, power cord, handpiece cable and
foot control and cable assembly as instructed in the Cavitron

Section 12: Troubleshooting
Although service and repair of the Cavitron®Select™ SPS™ should
be performed by DENTSPLY®personnel, the following are some
basic trouble shooting procedures that will help avoid unnecessary
service calls. Generally, check all lines and connections to and from
the System, a loose plug or connection will often create problems.
Check the settings on the System’s knobs.
12.1 Troubleshooting Guide
System will not operate:
(Power Indicator Light is not lighted.)
1. Check that the Power Control knob is in the ON position,
and that the detachable Power Cord is fully seated in the
receptacle on back of the Cavitron® Select™ SPS™ System.
2. Check that the System’s three-prong plug is fully seated in an
appropriate AC receptacle, and that AC current is present.
3. Check that the DC power plug is properly inserted into the
DC input located on the back of the System.
(Power Indicator Light is lighted.)
1. Check that the Foot Control Connector is fully seated in the
Foot Control Receptacle on the back of the System.
2. Check that the Handpiece Cable Assembly is fully seated in
the Handpiece Receptacle.
System operates:

1. Assure that Lavage control is properly adjusted.
2. Check that irrigant supply control valve/s (dental oce
water supply) are open.
3. Check that the Handpiece Cable Assembly is fully seated

discolored—if so, replace.
5. Check to assure that liquid is available in reservoir bottle.

Nr. 601.1 ist das Cavitron®Select-System im Hinblick auf Elektroschock,
Feuergefahr und mechanische Gefahr von Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
klassiziert.
Die Funktionsweise des Zahnsteinentfernungssystems beruht darauf, daß
gewöhnlicher Haushaltswechselstrom in Hochfrequenzstrom umgewandelt
wird. Das Ultraschallgerät besteht aus zwei Teilen: einem Einsatzstück
und dem -Elektroniksystem SPS™ (Sustained Performance System™). Das
System enthält zwei geschlossene Regelschleifen. Eine Schleife bewirkt die
automatische Einstellung (die Betriebsfrequenz wird so eingestellt, daß bei
jedem Einsatzstück Resonanz erzeugt wird), während die zweite Schleife
automatisch die Bewegung der Spitze bei unterschiedlichen Betriebsbedin-
gungen steuert. Das Zahnsteinentfernungsgerät erzeugt
pro Sekunde 30.000 mikroskopisch kleine Hubbewegungen an der Arbe-
itsspitze des Einsatzstücks. In Verbindung mit den akustischen Eekten
des Kühlwassers wird dadurch eine synergistische Wirkung erzeugt, die
bei außergewöhnlichem Komfort für Anwender und Patient selbst stärkste
Zahnsteinablagerungen mit Leichtigkeit entfernt.
Die Reservoirsystem für das Cavitron®Select™SPS™ist ein wahlweise ver-
wendbares Spülußabgabegerät. Die Stecker von Fußschalter, Handstück,
Wasserschlauch und Netzkabel werden vor Anschluß der Reservoirsystem
vom Zahnsteinentfernungsgerät abgezogen. Das Zahnsteinentfernungs-
gerät wird mit der Reservoirsystem verbunden. Die Stecker von Fußschal-
ter und Handstück sowie der Netzstecker werden in die entsprechenden
Buchsen auf der Rückseite der Reservoirsystem eingesteckt. Die Verbind-
ungen zwischen den Geräteteilen für das Ultraschallsignal, den Fußschalter
und den Gleichstrom werden über ein Leiterkarten-Steckverbindungsstück
an der Rückseite des Zahnsteinentfernungsgeräts und an der Vorderseite
des Pumpenmoduls hergestellt. Das Reservoir hat eine Kapazität von 450
ml. Flüssigkeit wird aus dem Reservoir mit durch eine interne Membran-
pumpe erzeugter Druckluft von 15–19 psig (103 – 131 kPa) ausgestoßen.
EIN/AUS (ON/OFF) des Spülusses wird durch ein internes Magnetven-
til geregelt. Die Flüssigkeit zum Handstück ießt direkt aus der Reservoir-
system zum Handstück. Bei Verwendung mit diesem Zubehörteil ießt
keine Flüssigkeit durch das Cavitron® Select™SPS™. Der Spüluß durch die
Einsatzstücke im Handstück beträgt mehr als 40 ccm/min. Wasser, wenn
maximaler Spüluß eingestellt wurde.
