AUTOMATIC DEGAUSSING
All colour televisionreceivers are sensitiveto magnetic influences, usually caused byeither moving thereceiver from one

causes distortion whichgives rise to"blotchy" areas ofcolour in thepicture. To avoid these effects the receiver incorporates
an automatic degaussingcircuit which operatesfor a shortwhile immediately eachtime the receiveris switched onusing the
mains switch. This circuit removesany residual magnetismin the metalparts of thepicture tube andtherefore ensures that
each time thereceiver is switched"ON" using theMains switch, thepurity of thecolours displayed onthe screen remain
true and lifelike. If the setis moved orfaced in adifferent direction , the mainsswitch must beswitched off at least 10 minutes
in order thatthe automatic degaussingcircuit operates properly.
