2 INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing a distribution amplifier DEV 28fx.
This customer documentation is intended to familiarize you with the
installation and operation of the device.
The DEV 28fx is a series of 1:8 (DEV 28f1) or 1:16 (DEV 28f3) distribution
amplifiers designed for professional use. The DEV 281xproducts are used
to distribute small C-Band signals in the range 3.2…4.2 GHz and the
DEV 285xproducts are used to distribute small Ku-Band signals in the range
10.95…12.75 GHz.
DEV Systemtechnik GmbH declares that this equipment meets all relevant
standards and rules. The unit carries a CE mark.
Please read all instructions before installation or usage of the product!

3 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This customer documentation covers the following products:
DEV 2811 1:8 Distribution Amplifier; 3.2…4.2 GHz; 50 Ohm, SMA (f)
DEV 2813 1:16 Distribution Amplifier; 3.2…4.2 GHz; 50 Ohm, SMA (f)
DEV 2851 1:8 Distribution Amplifier; 10.95…12.75 GHz; 50 Ohm, SMA (f)
DEV 2853 1:16 Distribution Amplifier; 10.95…12.75 GHz; 50 Ohm, SMA (f)
All distribution amplifiers are designed in a way, that the signal applied to the
input port is routed to an amplifier and then split into 8 or 16 output signals.
All products are delivered in a 1 RU chassis, are equipped with female
50 Ohm SMA connectors for the input and output ports, and provide
redundant power supplies.

Power Supply 2

1 2 3
On the right at the front side of the chassis, three LEDs are located
signalizing the power supply operating status of the device:
"Power Supply 1" LED (1)
If this green LED is on, the first power supply unit provides a secondary
voltage feeding the device partially.
"Power Supply 2" LED (2)
If this green LED is on, the second power supply unit provides a
secondary voltage feeding the device partially.
"Failure" LED (3)
This red LED is on if either the first or the second power supply unit does
not deliver any secondary voltage. The reason for this can be a defective
power supply, a defective primary protection fuse, or a missing primary
voltage.

4 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 SCOPE OF DELIVERY
1 * DEV 2811, or DEV 2813, or DEV 2851, or DEV 2853
1 * Customer documentation (this document)
4.2 INSTALLATION OF THE PRODUCT
4.2.1 Mechanical Integration of the Product
For the integration in a 19" rack, the rack slots must be prepared with rails
for the chassis. After inserting the chassis in the rack, fix the chassis with 4
screws to the rack at its rack mount flanges.
Warning:
It is not permitted to fix the chassis on the rack mount flanges, only.
4.2.2 Grounding and Power Connection
The chassis needs to be connected to the 19" rack via a ground wire. The
grounding bolt is located on the left at the rear side of the product:
Fuse 2 A T
WARNING:
Disconnect power
before opening!

Take off the upper nut and the first washer of to the grounding bolt (labeled
"G" in the figure above). Then connect the grounding cable, which must have
a ring tongue terminal matching for the M4 fastening bolt. The washer and
the nut then have to be tightened again.
Finally, connect two power cords to the primary connectors (labeled
"P1" & "P2"). It is recommended to use two separately fused phases of the
available electrical outlets.
Note:
It is highly recommended to power up the device after the installation of
the RF cables (please refer to chapter 4.2.3)!
The power lines are fused separately; the fuse holders (labeled
"F1" & "F2") are located below the corresponding power inlet ("P1" & "P2").
If a fuse has to be exchanged, unplug the device completely and use
2 A T 5*20 mm glass fuses for replacement only!

4.2.3 Connection of RF Cables
Apply strain relieves to the RF cables which are to be connected to the
chassis in a way, that the connectors of the device are not stressed
mechanically.
When connecting RF cables to the chassis, each connector is to be
tightened with a torque wrench adjusted to 1 Nm (141.6 ozf-in), which is the
recommended torque to be applied to 50 Ohm SMA connectors.
Note:
Best signal quality is achieved by connecting the signal receivers
symmetrically to the outputs
- 1…4 & 5…8 of a 1:8 splitter (DEV 2811, DEV 2851)
- 1…4 / 5…8 & 9…12 / 13…16 of a 1:16 splitter (DEV 2813, DEV 2853)
and by connecting 50 Ohm SMA loads to the unused ports
If all cables are connected, the device can be powered up.
4.3 MAINTENANCE OF THE PRODUCT
The product is maintenance-free.
Cleaning the surface of the chassis should be done carefully with a dry lint-
free cloth.

5 OPERATION OF THE PRODUCT
After going through the installation steps as described above, the device is
ready to use.
There are no elements (buttons etc.) to be operated after power-up.
The power supply operating status of the device is indicated via LEDs, which
were already presented in chapter 3.
6 ERROR INDICATION
As the only hardware error indication just the "Failure" LED (please refer to
chapter 3) is available for this type of devices.
