Safety Rules
1.SincetheDigitalCameraBatterycanpowersomanydifferentdevices,makesureyouareusing
thepropercord.Thisincludesthevoltage,polarity,aswellasthe physical connectordimensions.
2. Inspect all cords and connectors prior to use. If a cord is damaged, return it to the factory with
payment of ½ the current list price and it will be replaced. This price includes all ground shipping
chargesandtaxesonreplacementcordsinthecontinentalU.S.
3.Donotusehighvoltageadaptersinwetlocations.(VeryDangerous!)
4.Donot exposetheDigitalCameraBattery todirectmoisture.AlthoughtheDigitalCameraBattery
wasdesignedtohandlehighhumidity... ITISNOTWATERPROOF.Waterdamagevoidsthe1year
partsandlaborwarranty.
5. Do not use chargers or cables unless they have been factory approved. Improper cables will
definitelydamage your equipmentand may evencause damage tothe Digital Pursuits™Camera
Battery.Never put meter probes into the Digital Camera Battery connectors! Itis possible to
damagetheunitif control pins areshortedoractivated improperly byameter’sloadorvoltage.An
improperchargerwilldamageyourDigitalCameraBatteryinawaythatwillvoidthe1yearpartsand
laborwarranty.
6.Donotremovethecovers on the DigitalCameraBattery. Theonlyexceptiontothis rule is when
changingthepowercell. The factorydoesnotchargeforlabororground shipping(continentalU.S.
only)when replacing thepower cell. Powercells replaced atthe factoryare charged, tested,and
chargedagain beforereturning tothe customer. Include your chargerwhen replacingcells. Ifwe
findanyproblemwith thechargeritwillbereplacedatnoadditionalcost. Forcustomersoutsidethe
U.S.contactyourlocaldealerabout obtaining powercellsorservicetosaveshippingcost.
7.OnlythePowerCelldesignedtogointheDigitalCameraBatterymaybeused.PowerCellsmade
fromdifferentchemistriescanleakoreven explodeifusedintheDigitalCameraBattery.TheDigital
CameraBatterywasdesignedwiththehighestcapacitycellsavailableforit’sintendedenvironment.
NiCadbatteriesdonothavethecapacitytohandlethechargeandwillleak. Lithium-Ioncellswillnot
handlethevoltageand temperature extremes andareguaranteedtoexplode! Lead acidbatteries
shouldnever be usedin oursystem. Only use the NiMHPower Cell provided by thefactory inthe
DigitalCameraBattery.

Operation
1. When you receive your Digital Camera Battery it can be used right out of the box. Each Digital
CameraBatteryis fully testedatthe factory. Each unitiscompletely charged andthendischarged
througheachconnector.Unitsarechargedbeforetheyare packaged.However,iftheunithasbeen
exposedtoextremeheatorhasbeen on the shelf forsometime,chargingwillberequired.If this is
thecase,plugthechargerintotheDigitalCameraBatteryandchargeaccordingtothespecifications
onthebackofthismanual.Chargingiscompletewhentheunitiswarmtothetouch.Alwaysremove
theDigitalCameraBatteryfromit’scaseandplaceinopenairwhenchargingtopreventoverheating.
Alwaysunplugthecharger fromtheACoutletwhennotinuse.
2.Afterconnectingtheshoulderstrap,mountingbrackets,orbeltclip,connectthecablestobeused.
PowertheDigital Camera Batterytothe on position.Whenthe GREEN L.E.D. comesonyou may
turnontheequipmentattached.PowerisnotavailableforamomentwhentheDigitalCameraBattery
is first turned on. This allows the computer to perform a power up test and prevents overheating
shouldseriousphysicaldamage occur totheDigitalCamera Battery.
3.WhentheYELLOWL.E.D.comesonitis recommended that the pack berechargedatthistime.
Digitalcameracableswillcontinuetooperateiftheyarebelow8.5volts. Somehighvoltagestep-up
cableswillshutdowntoallowthecamerapowerforpropershutdown.
4.Whenthe RED L.E.D.comes on, shuteverythingdown, you haveverylittle power remaining.If
yourequipmenthas internal batteries, justswapout the DigitalCameraBattery or usetheinternal
batteriesasabackup.Itisalwaysa good idea to haveacompletesetofbackupequipment.
5.WhentheREDL.E.D.Blinks,switchtoanotherDigitalCameraBattery.Youcanleavethedischarged
packon.TheBlinkingREDL.E.D.willremindyoutochargethat pack at a later time. Ifthepackwill
notbechargedwithin8hours,turntheunitofftopreventdeepdischarge.
6.DonotrelyontherecycletimeoftheflashtodeterminechargeleveloftheDigitalCameraBattery
as the power output is constant from start to finish. This consistent regulated power is one of the
DigitalCameraBattery’sfeaturesno other batterypackonthemarketcanmatch.
7.DonotexposetheDigitalCameraBatterytophysicalforcesinexcessof100G’s.Whileweadvise
againstdroppinganyequipmentontheground,accidentsdohappen,thepaddedcarryingcasewill
helpreducethechanceofdamageintheeventyoudropyourDigitalCameraBattery.

Maintenance
1.ChargetheDigitalCameraBatteryprior to use. Please notethattheoutputsaredisabledduring
chargingevenwhentheunit is intheONposition.ThisallowsalltypesofDCBchargersto be used.
Optionsincludestandard,worldwide,fastcharger,carchargerandsolarchargers.Forsolarcustomers
the output control can be overridden with a modification at the factory, but the cell warranty is
shortened to 90 days on units modified in this way. (Constant short cycle charging due to the sun
goinginandoutduringthedaywhiledischargingcancauseprematurecell failure.)
2. When the battery becomes warm during charge, it is full. Some chargers have indicators to
indicatechargingstatus,the standardchargerdoesnot.
3.Acompletely discharged 40 watt unit should be charged for 16 hours (standard charger). The
Solarchargerwill chargethe40 wattDigitalCamera Battery ina single dayof bright sunlight.The
Fastchargerwillchargethe40wattDigitalCameraBatteryinabout3hoursanywhereintheworld.
(TheFastchargerincludesa US120VACpowercable,butanyelectronicsstore worldwidewilloffer
localACpowercables.) Timesforthe80wattunitwillbedouble.
4. When the unit no longer performs to the expected level return it to the factory for Power Cell
replacement.Includethecharger when returninganyDigitalCameraBatteryforANYreason.The
costis$75(DCB40WB)whichincludesthereplacementPowerCell,returngroundshipping(continental
U.S.),aswellastestingof the unit andcharger. If thereisanyproblemwiththe standardcharger, it
willbereplacedatnocost.
5.IfyourDigitalCameraBatterybecomesdamagedtothepointitnolongerfunctions,returnittothe
factory.Repairswillneverexceed½thecurrent list price.Ifthecostexceeds½listpricetheunitwill
be replaced for ½ list price and will have a Full 1 Year Warranty. For customers outside the U.S.
contactyourlocaldealerforotherrepairoptionssinceshippingcostsmaynotbe economical.
Ifyouarewonderingwhywetestthechargerregardlessoftheproblem,itisbecausethatistheonly
componentbeyondourcontrol. Lightning, highlinevoltageand physical abusemaynotshow any
signsofdamageyetcauseallkindsofproblems.Ourstandardchargerisdesignedtobeeconomical
butissusceptibletoenvironmentalconditionsandshorting.Wewouldrathergiveyouanewstandard
charger than have you dissatisfied with a Digital Camera Battery. All of our other chargers can
withstand continuously shorted outputs and wide input voltage ranges. (We don’t know of other
manufacturersofbatterypackshaving chargersthatcanwithstandthistypeofabuse.)

can also provide very high currents that could start an electrical fire in a matter of seconds if the

ThechartbelowallowsyoutocomparetheDigitalCameraBatterytothebatteryintheproductyou
areusing. If thecapacity is twicethe capacityof you productsbattery it willrun twiceas long. This
chartisfortheDCB30WB,the40and80wattmodelshaveevenhighercapacity.Ifthischartmeans
nothingtoyou,plugtheDigitalPursuits™CameraBatteryinandbegladthatitrunsalongtime.
Multiplyyour(camerabattery’sVoltage) x (it’sAHrating)togettheWattcapacity.

WhentheDigitalCameraBatteryispoweringacameraandflashatthesametimeseveralfactorswill
contribute to the number of exposures you will get from a single charge. Here is a list of the most
commonfactorsyouwillencounter(someyoucancontrol):
•LimittheLCDusage,thisusesalmostasmuchpowerastakingapicture.
•Ifthecamera has abatterysavermode,trytoenableevenwhenexternal powerconnected.
•Bothcamerasandflashunitsconsumepowerjustbeingon,turnthemoffduringextendedstandby.
•Somecablesusepowerevenwhentheconnecteddeviceisoff,turnofftheDCBwhennotinuse.
•Highf-stop’sor longdistanceshotsusemoreflashpowerthanclose-up’sor lowf-stopexposures.
•Imagestabilizedlensesconsumepower,regardlessofthenumberofexposurestaken.
•KeeptheDCBfromextremetemperatures.(Undercoatincoldweather,outofdirect sun in heat.)
•ChargetheDCBpriortousinganddonotleaveoncharge for extended periods.
•RemoveDCBfromanycaseorholderduring charge, heat buildup will preventpropercharging.

Warranty
1 Year Parts and Labor
AnyDigitalCameraBatteryorAccessoryrequiringrepairduetomanufacturerdefectwillberepaired
orreplacedforfreeduringthe first year. Theonlyresponsibility to the customerisshippingtorepair
facility. Please insure your Digital Camera Battery and / or accessories for the amount you paid.
Include a copy of your invoice and a description of the problem or damage. Always include the
charger when returning a Digital Camera Battery for repair. Upon receipt your unit will be tested,
repaired,finaltestedandshippedbacktoyoubygroundshipping. Unitsdamagedduetoneglectwill
be charged for parts and labor. Any repair that would exceed 50% of the current list price will be
replaced at 50% of the current list price. Liability is limited to repair of the Digital Camera Battery
and it's accessories. No warranty is made or implied for any product manufactured by any other
company.For customers outsidetheU.S. contactyour local dealerto see ifthey offerother repair
options.
Lifetime Warranty
If your Digital Camera Battery is damaged beyond repair, simply return the damaged item with a
checkfor50%ofthe current list price. Repairsthatwouldexceeds50%of the current listpricewill
bereplaced. Anewreplacementwillbesentwhenpaymenthascleared. Allreplacementshaveafull
1yearnewproductwarranty. AllItemsrequiring repairduetomanufacturerdefect will be repaired
or replaced for free during the first year and the current warranty will remain in effect. Liability is
limitedtorepairoftheDigitalCamera Battery and it's accessories. Nowarrantyismadeorimplied
foranyproductmanufacturedbyanyothercompany.Additionalshipping charges apply for special
