terminal.
Both before and during use of your FOMA F700i mobile terminal, be sure to thoroughly
read this manual and instruction manuals that come with the battery pack and other
devicestoensure you are able to correctlyuseyourFOMA F700i mobile terminal. For more
information, you may also contact us as mentioned on the back of this manual.
Treated with care, your FOMA F700i mobile terminal will be your able partner.
Before Using Your FOMA Mobile Terminal
•Because your FOMA terminal uses radio waves, it may not function in locations where it is difficult
for radio waves to penetrate, such as tunnels, underground passages and some buildings, in areas
where radio wave signals are weak, or when outside the service area. Even when you are high up in
a tall building or condominium and nothing blocks your view outside, your FOMA terminal may not
be able to receiveor transmit signals. Also, communication may beinterrupted even when the signal
meter on your FOMA terminal indicates there is a strong signal and you are not moving (traveling).
•Use your FOMA terminal in a way that does not disturb others in public spaces, crowded locations or
quiet places.
•Because your FOMA terminal uses radio waves to communicate, there is a possibility that third
parties may attempt to listen in on your calls. The W-CDMA system automatically supports a
confidential communication function for all calls so even if someone should somehow be able to tap
a call, the signals are modified so that the eavesdropping party will hear only noise.
•Your FOMA terminal encodes voice communication as digital data. When you are operating your
FOMA terminal while moving to a location subject to weaker radio wave signals, the transmitted
digital data may not be correctly decoded and as a result the decoded voice may differ somewhat
from the actual voice.
•Maintain a separate record of the data you register in your FOMA terminal. If the data should be
erased, DoCoMo assumes no responsibility for the loss of any data.
•The user hereby agrees that the user shall be solely responsible for the result of the use of SSL.

security in the use of SSL. In the event that the user shall sustain damage or loss due to the use of

Features of FOMA F700i
FOMA is the name of a set of services provided by DoCoMo based on W-CDMA, which is
recognized as one of the systems compliant to the global standard for third generation
wireless communications (IMT-2000).
i-mode is an online service used with i-mode devices. This
service supports connection to i-mode
sites (programs) or
i-mode-compatible sites that provide a variety of useful
information and allows you to exchange i-mode Mail.

Main functions of FOMA F700i
Support for i αppli/i αppliDX
Various i αppli applications downloaded from
sites can be used or they can also be set on the
stand-by display. In addition, synchronizing the
information from i αppli with the phonebook
registered in FOMA terminal or mail allows to
create mail on the character screen or change
the ring alert or incoming/outgoing image.

i-mode Mail supporting Deco-mail
Mail text can be decorated by resizing
characters or changing colors. Expressive mail
can be created with a melody (Melo-deco) by
simple operations. Using sufficient melodies
and/or templates preinstalled, completing a
delightful i-mode Mail will take little time.

Out-camera is an auto focus CMOS camera of
1,280,000 effective pixels (Number of recording
pixels: 1,230,000). You can shoot a still image of
up to 1.2 M pixels (1280 x 960 dots) with the
CMOS camera. In addition to 16x zoom (Linear
zoom)thatzoomsin or out on images smoothly,
various modes are available for shooting
including close-up, framed shooting and

Privacy mode
By setting Privacy mode to the phonebook,
message, i αppli, movies, still images,
schedules, received call list, redial history,
recorded messages, unauthorized access to
your FOMA terminal can be prevented. →P161
All lock and Remote lock
Lock function is available to use FOMA terminal
safely.
With All lock set, menu functions, etc. are
unavailable. In case FOMA terminal is lost or
stolen, you can make all operations impossible
by setting Remote lock. Both of the locks are
effective to prevent any unauthorized use of the
FOMA terminal. →P157
High-definition display and
spiffy sub-display settings
The display is of 2.2-inch QVGA (240 x 320 dots)
TFT LCD. It can smoothly display i-motion on
the full screen.
In addition, for the sub-display of 30 x 97 dots,
available in any of vertical or horizontal
placement, images, clocks and enjoyable
animations are prepared for incoming calls and
mail. The screen color can be selected from 27

Similarly to the PC's mail function, this function enables to decorate mail messages
with simple operations. In addition to changing the font size, coloring and character
decoration, it allows inserting still images and ruled lines, specifying positions, and

Children using the card or adapter should be instructed in proper operation by
an adult. Do not allow them to use the card or adapter without adult supervision.

The Road Traffic Law is going to be modified on November 1, 2004 and using a mobile phone
while driving will be covered by penal regulations.
When you talk with the speakerphone function or the high-pitched alarm
activated, always keep the FOMA terminal away from your ear.

Turn the FOMA terminal OFF near high-precision electronic control equipment
or electronic equipment using low-power signals.
Using the phone near this type of equipment can cause the equipment to fail or malfunction.
*Examples of electronic equipment to avoid:
Hearing aids, implanted pacemakers or defibrillators, other electrical medical equipment, fire
alarms, automatic doors, other automatic control equipment.
Users wearing implanted pacemakers or defibrillators or other electrical medical equipment
should check with the manufacturer or sales outlet about the effect of radio frequencies on the
equipment.
Turn the FOMA terminal OFF in areas where use is prohibited, such as in
airplanes and hospitals.
Use in these areas can cause medical and other electrical and electronic equipment to
malfunction or fail.
If the function which automatically turns on the power is set, cancel the setting before turning the
power off.
When using the phone in a medical facility, be sure to observe the regulations of the facility. If you
do prohibited act such as using the phone in an airplane, you may be punished according to law.
When you use medical electrical equipment, do not keep the terminal in your
chest pocket or inside pocket.
Using your FOMA terminal near medical electronic equipment could cause equipment failure.
Do not disassemble or remodel the card and adapter.
Fire, injuries, electric shock, or malfunction may result.
If you have weak heart, becareful when setting the incoming vibrator (vibration)
or ring volume setting.

Do not direct the infrared data port toward your eye and transmit signals.
May affect your eyes. In addition, faulty operation could result from directing the infrared data
port toward other infrared equipment and transmitting signals.
Do not use or leave the FOMA terminal near flames, stoves or other hot areas.
Heat, ignite or malfunction may result.
If lightning strikes while using the phone outside, turn the power OFF
immediately, and move to a safe location.

Do not let FOMA terminal get wet.
Contact with water or other liquids can cause heating, electric shock, malfunctions or injuries.
Take care not to use the phone in areas where it could get wet.
Do not put liquids such as water, metal pieces or flammable materials inside
UIM slot and a miniSD memory card slot.

Do not leave your FOMA terminal for a long time in a location where direct
sunlight enters the lens of the built-in camera.
A light collection effect from the lens could cause a fire.
Do not swing the phone by its antenna or strap.
May cause equipment damage or failure, or injury to yourself or others.

■Check that the battery type matches the type displayed on the battery pack label.
Mobile phones can give some users skin problems such as itching, allergic
reactions or rashes. If you develop skin problems, stop using the phone
immediately, and see a doctor.
The following parts contain metal materials.

Do not place magnetic disks or cards with magnetic stripes near the phone or
place inside and fold the terminal.
Data stored on media such as cash cards, credit cards, telephone cards and floppy disks may be
erased if the storage medium is placed near the phone.
If the display part is accidentally damaged and liquid crystal leaks out, do not put
the liquid in your mouth, inhale, or make contact with your skin.
If the liquid gets into your eyes or mouth, rinse with clean water and see a doctor
immediately.
If the liquid adheres to skin or clothing, use alcohol, etc. to wipe off and wash
with soap.
May cause loss of sight or skin problems.
Be careful about broken glass when the display or camera lens is accidentally broken.

The surface of the display and camera lens is designed with a plastic panel on top of the glass
board to keep the glass from breaking into pieces. However, you could be injured if you touch a
sharp edge.
In rare cases, using the phone in some vehicle models can cause the vehicle's
electronic equipment to malfunction or fail.
In this case, do not use the FOMA terminal because it may hamper safe driving.

■General
•Keep water away from FOMA terminal.
- FOMA terminal, battery pack and adapter (including battery charger) are not waterproof. Do not use
FOMA terminal in bathrooms or other high-humidity areas, or in the rain. When carrying FOMA
terminal in a pocket near your body, sweat may corrode the inner components, causing malfunction.
Note that malfunctions deemed to be caused by water are not covered by the warranty, and may be
impossible to repair. Since these malfunctions are not under warranty, when repair is possible, it
will be done at the user's expense.
- If the FOMA terminal becomes wet or moist, turn the power off and remove the battery pack
immediately and bringtheFOMA terminalto our repair office assoon as possible. However, repair may
not be possible depending on the condition of the FOMA terminal.
•Clean FOMA terminal with a dry soft cloth.
- To make the color LC display easy to read, some FOMA terminal models use a special coating on the
display. When cleaning FOMA terminal, rubbing it roughly with a dry cloth can scratch the display.
Take care when handling the unit, and use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning (such as a cloth for
eyeglasses). Drops of water or dirt left on the display can cause stains or remove the coating.
- If FOMA terminal is wiped with alcohol, paint thinner, benzine or detergent, the printing may
disappear or color may fade.
•Clean the jack occasionally with a dry cotton swab.
- If the jack is dirty, the contact may become poor and data communications error may occur using
the desktop holder or the power may shut off. A dirty jack can also result in poor charging, so clean
it with a dry cloth or cotton swab.
•Do not place FOMA terminal near an air-conditioner outlet.
- The rapid change in humidity may cause condensation, causing internal corrosion and malfunction.
•Do not place FOMA terminal in an area where excessive force will be applied to it.
- If crammed into a brimming bag or placed in a pocket and sat on, FOMA terminal's LC display or
internal PCBs may be damaged or malfunction, and the damage will not be covered by warranty.
•Carefully read the separate instructions that come with the battery pack and adapter
(including battery charger).
■FOMA terminal
•It is normal for FOMA terminal to become warm during use or charging. You can
continue to use it while warm.
•Avoid temperature extremes.
- Use FOMA terminal in an ambient temperature range of between 5 and 35°C, and in a humidity
range of between 45 and 85%.
•FOMA terminal may affect non-mobile phones, TVs or radios in use nearby, so use it as
far as possible from these appliances.
•Maintain a separate record of the data you register in your FOMA terminal.
- DoCoMo assumes no responsibility for accidentally erased data.
•Do not place the FOMA terminal on the desk where obstacles are found.
- Damage may result.
•Do not sit down with FOMA terminal in a back pocket. Do not place it at the bottom of a
full bag or anywhere it will encounter excessive force.
- Malfunction or damage may result.
•Do not fold FOMA terminal with the strap held inside.
- Malfunction or damage may result.

■Battery pack
•The battery pack is a consumable part.
- Replace the battery pack when FOMA terminal has extremely short operation time on a full charge.
Purchase a new battery pack of the specified type. The battery pack's life will vary depending on
type of use.
•Charge the battery in an area within the proper ambient temperature range (5 to 35°C).
•Always charge before using it for the first time or after extended disuse.
•The operation time provided by the battery pack will vary depending on the operating
environment and battery pack's deterioration.
•Dirty metallic parts (terminals) of the battery pack may cause loose contact with the
terminal, resulting in power OFF, etc. Before using, wipe the terminals with dry cloths or
cotton swab.
•Do not discard old battery packs with general household garbage.
- Igniting or environmental destruction results. Tape the terminals of old battery packs to insulate
them, and then bring them into our sales outlet. If your local municipality has a battery recycling
program, dispose of them as provided for.
■Adapter (including battery charger)
•When using an outlet with a mechanism preventing unplugging, follow the handling
instructions for that outlet.
•Do not charge the battery in the following areas:
- Where the ambient temperature is less than 5°C or more than 35°C.
- In areas of excessive humidity, dust or vibrations.
- Near general subscriber phones, TVs or radios.
•It is normal for the adapter (including battery charger) to become warm during charging.
You can continue charging with a warm adapter.
•When using the DC adapter for charging, keep the vehicle engine running.
- The vehicle's battery could become flat.
■UIM
•Avoid temperature extremes.
•Do not use excessive force to remove the card's IC portion. Do not place an excessive
load on the card when inserting it into the terminal.
•It is normal for the UIM to become warm during use. You can continue using a warm
card.
•Note that DoCoMo will not be responsible for malfunctions occurring as the result of
inserting and using a UIM with another IC card reader/writer (external device).
•Always keep UIM ICs clean.
•Clean the UIM with a soft, dry cloth.
•Maintain a separate record of the data you register on the UIM.
- DoCoMo assumes no responsibility for accidentally erased data.
•To preserve the environment, bring the old UIM to our sales outlet.
If you use FOMA terminal to commit delinquent acts constituting great annoyance to the
public, you may be penalized according to applicable laws or regulations, such as the
Nuisance law.
Please be considerate of the privacy of individuals around you when taking and sending photos
using camera-equipped mobile phones.
