5xx Series, Preparation for Transport
Before transport, the integrated transport locks of the turntable must be activated.
Also the platter and the tonearm balance weight must be removed. If there is a stylus
protection cap, it must be activated.
1. There are different transport lock mechanisms:
The models 502, 504, 505, 506, 510, 521 and 522 have a spring loaded turntable
base. The integrated transport locks can be activated as shown in the pictures below.
Loosen the 3 big lock screws, then pull them upwards and turn them at the same
time counterclockwise. With this mechanism the turntable will be pressed into the
housing. Picture B shows the regular position of the lock screw, the turntable can
move freely in the housing. At picture A the lock is activated, the turntable is pressed
into the housing.
Activation of the transport locks is a must for the transport. If there is a rough
transport, the turntable can move out of the housing. There is a high risk, that the
turntable will be damaged.

The mechanics of the 503, 511, 514, 515, 520, 525 and 530 sits on rubber buffers.
To lock this mechanic for transport, special clips must be placed under dedicated
screws. The screws are located beyond the platter. The free play of the mechanic is
not very big. Even if the transport lock is not activated, the risk of damage during
transport is quite low.
The models 508, 528, 540 and 545 have no integrated transport lock.
2. Removing the platter:
The mechanism at the 502, 504, 506, 510 and 521:
These types have an integrated lock for the platter. Before the platter can be
removed, the belt should be lifted from the motor axle (lower left picture). Now turn
the platter, that you can reach screw “S” through the opening of the platter (lower
right picture). Open the screw with a screw driver a little bit and shift the head to the
outside direction. Now the platter is unlocked and can be removed easily (lower right
picture).

The mechanism at the 505, 508, 522 and 528:
The platter is locked with a bayonet catch. You must turn the center part at the platter
axle to unlock the platter. The bayonet catch is either above or below the rubber mat.
The mechanism at the 503, 511, 514, 515, 520, 525 und 530:
The platter is locked with a clip at the platter axle (Picture below). You will find it
below the rubber mat. At the 503 the clip can be removed. At the other models you
must snap the clip out of the groove of the axle.
The mechanism at the 540 and 545:
Here, the platter sits only on the motor axle. There is no additional lock. Sometimes it
feels like a press fit. But it is a must to remove the platter for transport. Else it can get
loose by some vibration. Then the platter can drop from the axle and will damage the
whole player. The pictures below show how the platter can be removed.

3. How to remove the tonearm balance weight:
For the 502, 504, 505, 506, 510, 521 und 522, it works as shown in the pictures
below. Loosen the screw (10) a little bit. Now the balance weight including its axle
can be pulled out of the tonearm tube. Tighten the screw (10) again, as it can get lost
easily during transport.
At the models 503, 505-1 -2 -3 -4, 508, 511, 514, 515, 520, 525, 530, 540 und 545,
the balance weight can be removed by turning the balance weight until it drops from
the end of the tonearm.
