Flash control
Overload and overheat protecon
Starter SK studio ash has power range from 1/1 to 1/8 (4 EV), which can be adjusted through the ash
output controller 8 (see pic. 2) in 20 steps and it’s shown on the digital display 2 with numbers from 1.0 to
3.0. Up arrow buon serves to increase the power output, respecvely, the one with arrow down serves to
decrease the power output. Please noce, that aer decreasing the power output you need to re the ash
ones to discharge the capacitors to the set lower power. If you reduce the power output with one more
increment under 1.0, the digial display will show “OF” symbol and the ash will stay turn on, but it won’t
be able to re a ash.
Starter DE studio ash has fully manual control of the modeling light. To turn on or o the modeling lamp,
press the buon 3. You can steplessly control the modeling lamp in 9 steps, which will be shown on the back
panel with the symbols L1 tо L9. For this purpose hold the buon 3, unl the modeling lamp power output
indicaon shows on the back panel and start blinking (L1 до L9). Through the buons 8 adjust the power
output and when it’s done , press once the buon 3. When the ash is on and idle for more than two hours
, the modeling lamp will automacally turn o. Restart the ash to turn it back on.
During connious work with the ash (large number of ashes for a short term), an overheang may occur.
To protect the ash, don’t make more than 20 ashes in a row with higher power output (2.0 - 3.0). Aer
every 20 conguous ashes leave the ash to cool down for at least 3 min.
When working with light control accessories such as spots, which are prevenng the cooling, you have to
limit the modeling light use and the ash shouldn’t be used too intense.
If the ash is used carelessly about its temperature this may cause failure, in which case Dynaphos Ltd.
reserves the right to refuse warranty repair.

Slave mode
Sync triggering
Plug the sync cable or connect the ash trigger receiver in the usb port jack 6(see p. 2) Connect
the sunchro cable or the receiver with the camera and set the camera on the max. shuer speed.
(check the camera manual instrucons) When pressing the camera shuer release, simultaneously the ash
will re an impulse.
If you use more than one ash, the others will be acveted through their photo cells. Use the buon 4to
turn on or o the photo cell, as well as to set a mode for triggering with 1st or 2nd ash. (the last one is used
when acvang through TTL manual ash with Pre Flash funcon). When the buon 4 indicator ashes
blue, 1st ash trigger mode is set on, when it ashes red the 2nd ash mode is set on. When the photo
cell is turn o, the indicator won’t ash. In some cases it is possible the intense of the master ash to be
insucient to trigger the rest of the ashes through their photo cells. In this case use addional receivers
for each ash.
You can also trigger the ash by the “Test” buon 10.
Through the oponal FT-16 wireless power control and trigger, you can remotely trigger and control o the
ash power, pilot light and the photo cell of 16 separate ashes (groups) Starter SK. For this purpose you
will need a FT-16 power control and trigger kit (product № 010288) The device is specially designed for work
with studio ashes Expert QS, Speedster QT, Craline GS, Starter DE, Witstro and XEnergizer.
To trigger and power control a ash with FT-16:
- open the baery compartment of the sender and place 2 alkaline baeries 1.5V AA as following the right
polarity.
- mount the sender in the camera HotShoe connector with the control panel towards to you and ghten
