Set-Up for Chameleon Headsets
Chameleon Headsets™have been designed to work with virtually
every major brand of corded and cordless modular headset amplifiers,
business telephone systems equipped with a "headset jack", cordless
and mobile telephones and computer sound cards. If your corded
telephone or telephone system is not equipped with a designated
"headset Jack," be sure that a modular headset amplifier is connected
to your telephone's handset jack and you have the appropriate
Chameleon Headset™coil cord before trying to use your new
Chameleon Headset™.
Compatibility With Modular Headset Amplifiers
Most every modular headset amplifier uses compatibility switches
and a Microphone Transmit Adjustment for compatibility with the
numerous telephones and telephone systems on the market today.
Unless you have changed telephones, it is not necessary to change
your current compatibility switch settings, or Microphone Transmit
setting, on your amplifier. Your new Chameleon Headset™will simply
adapt itself to your modular headset amplifier. However, if caller’s
comment that you are too loud or not loud enough, do not hesitate
to adjust the Microphone Transmit level on your modular headset
amplifier. Refer to your amplifier’s Owner’s Manual for readjustment.
Note: If you have purchased a new modular headset amplifier
along with your Chameleon Headset™, please refer to the
amplifier Owner’s Manual for proper installation and set-up of
the amplifier with your telephone or telephone system.
7

Basic Operation
Your Chameleon Headset™has been designed to adapt seamlessly
to virtually any communication product and computer sound card.
Your new headset will not alter in any way the functionality of your
current communication product or computer sound card. All of the
current features of your communication product or computer sound
card will function the same as they always have.
Incoming Sound Level Adjustments, Muting, etc. will still be
accessed from the communication product or computer sound card
that your Chameleon Headset™is connected to. Unless your telephone
allows otherwise, when connected to a modular headset amplifier,
your telephone handset will need to be lifted from its cradle to make
or answer a call and then returned to the cradle to disconnect a call
when completed.
If your telephone or telephone system is equipped with a "Headset
Jack" i.e. Cordless and Mobile telephones, Northern Telecom Business
models, Comdial Impact Business models and others, it will not be
necessary to use a modular headset amplifier or to lift the handset
off of its’ cradle to access a call. Simply connect your Chameleon
Headset™, using the appropriate Chameleon cord, to the jack on the
telephone marked HEADSET or ( ), and then push the appropriate
button to make and end your calls. Because all telephones with this
feature may be different, please refer to your Telephone Owner’s
Manual for full details regarding this feature.
Using Your Chameleon Headset™
Chameleon Headsets™are available in single-ear (monaural), dual-
ear (binaural), and the Classic Convertible models. Because of
differences in personal preference all models feature a ratcheted
rotating microphone boom which allows the user to wear the headset
with the microphone on either the left or right ear.

Putting Your Headset On
p/n 2001 and 2002
NOTE
See Page 12 for Set-Up of Convertible Headsets.
To put your headset on, slide the headband entirely open to its
largest size. Place the headset on your head so that the speaker(s) are
on your ear(s) in a comfortable position. While holding the speaker(s)
in place, slide the headband closed (equally on both sides if a dual-
ear model) until the headband rests on the top of your head
comfortably and securely.
NOTE: When using a single-ear model, follow the same steps
above by holding the speaker on the preferred ear and
positioning the padded T-Bar above the opposite ear before
sliding the headband closed. The headband on the single-ear
model will only slide open and closed on the side with the
speaker.

Rotating the Metal Flex™Microphone Boom
To rotate the Metal Flex™microphone boom for wear on the left
or right ear, simply rotate the microphone boom downward to the
opposite side.
NOTE: Your Chameleon
Headset™features two
internal STOP mechanisms
which prevent the
microphone boom from
rotating 360 degrees over
the top of the speaker.
The STOP mechanisms are
found at approximately
the two and ten o’clock
positions.
DO NOT FORCE THE
MICROPHONE BOOM
PAST THE STOP
MECHANISMS.
Proper Direction and Position of the Voice Trap™
Noise Canceling Microphone
Proper positioning of the Voice Trap™noise canceling microphone
will optimize the clarity of your voice and prevent the maximum
amount of unwanted background noise that your callers hear.
10

The housing of your Voice Trap™noise canceling microphone is
round in the front and flat in the back. You can recognize this by
either removing the foam windscreen or feeling it through the foam
while still on the microphone housing.
NOTE: It is extremely important that the front (round side)
of the voice trap™microphone housing is pointed towards
your mouth.
After placing the headset in the most comfortable position on
your head and ears, rotate and bend the Metal Flex™microphone
boom until the front of the microphone housing is 1/2” (approximately
the width of your index finger) below and away from your lower lip.
Avoid positioning the
microphone directly in the path
of your breath.
NOTE: Your Metal Flex™
microphone boom is flexible
and durable. You can bend
and position it for maximum
Voice Trap™noise cancellation
and comfort.

NEVER FORCE THE MICROPHONE BOOM PAST THE STOP
MECHANISMS.
The Metal Flex™ microphone boom is flat to in sure perfect
directionality regardless of which ear you choose to wear the headset
on. You can bend and position the microphone boom for maximum
Voice Trap™ noise cancellation and comfort. You should NEVER
attempt to BEND it within 1/2" of the Voice Trap™ microphone
housing, or attempt to TWIST the microphone boom.

To Assemble The Speaker
Housing To The Ear Loop
To assemble the speaker
housing to the ear loop, first adjust
the post at the top of the ear loop
so that it is aligned vertically.
Then align the post with the hole found at the top of the speaker
housing (the hole is located at the opposite end of where the headset
cable exits the speaker housing). With both the post of the ear loop
and hole of the speaker housing aligned vertically, push the post into
the hole firmly until they snap together.
NOTE: Whenever assembling or disassembling the ear
loop, it is recommended that the post on the ear loop
and the hole of the speaker housing be kept as straight
as possible.

Putting Your Headset On Using the Ear Loop
To put the ear loop on the ear, first determine which ear you will
rest the speaker housing on. If you wish, choose one of the two earpads
included in the headset box and place it on the speaker housing at
this time. Always rotate the microphone boom down and rotate
the ear loop 180º when changing which ear to rest the speaker
on.
Straighten the malleable Gumby-like material of your ear loop
so that it is stretching straight down from the top of the loop. Hold
the speaker housing out and away from the ear. Place the ear loop on
the top of your ear so that it is resting comfortably on your ear.
While holding the top of the ear loop in place begin to
bend and curl the malleable loop so that it is wrapping around
the back of the ear.

Hold in place

The end of the loop
should tuck behind
your ear lobe. Tug
slightly at your ear
lobe and continue to
curl malleable loop to
ensure the headset is
secure on the ear as
desired.
Now firmly on your ear, you may also push the speaker housing
back towards the loop so that the back end of the speaker rests slightly
inside the ear behind your cartilage. This will help in making the ear
piece more stable during movement.
