Pre-Installation
Upon receipt of the service valve kit, carefully check the model number against the bill of lading.
Next, check the service valve kit and adapter kit model numbers against the compressor unit model
and line set sizes to ensure a match. See Figure 1.

Figure 1. Service Valve/Compressor Unit/Line Set Match, continued
Service valves are installed on the EarthLinked®heating and cooling system earth loop line set near
the compressor unit, to enhance serviceability of the compressor unit and earth loops.

SV KIT INSTALLATION
1. After ensuring the compressor unit and earth loop line set has no refrigerant or nitrogen holding
charge, and after power has been turned “OFF” to the compressor unit and all other
EarthLinked® and field supplied system components (at the appropriate breakers), remove the
front and top panels of the compressor unit cabinet.
2. Within the compressor unit, locate the charging port on the earth loop liquid line. Remove the
core and connect a nitrogen tank hose to the charging port, which will be used later to purge the
earth loop system of oxygen.
3. Cut the VAPOR line in convenient proximity to the compressor unit, as shown in Figure 2. The
line should be cut squarely, maintaining the roundness of the tube ends. Deburr the cut ends
and clean the cut ends of the tubing.
Figure 2. Cut Location for Vapor Tube
4. Adjust the VAPOR service valve so it is in the “open” position. Remove the service port core
from the valve. Clean the inside of the service valve line set ports and insert the line set
tubing into the service valve so the service port is on the earth loop side of the valve.
See Figures 3 and 4.

5. Cut the LIQUID line and repeat steps 3 and 4 except replace the service port cap on the LIQUID
service valve.
6. Wrap a wet cloth around the VAPOR service valve nearest the joint to be brazed, as shown in
Figure 5.

7. Place a flame retardant heat shield between the joint to be brazed and the wet cloth. See
Figure 6.
Figure 6. Heat Shield

8. Before brazing a joint with 15% silver content brazing alloy, connect a regulated nitrogen supply
(step 2) to the charging port inside the compressor unit and flow nitrogen through the earth loop
system and out the VAPOR service port until the oxygen in the braze joint area has been
replaced by nitrogen.
All service valve/line set joints are to be brazed with 15% silver content brazing alloy utilizing the
NITROGEN BRAZING PROCESS.
9. Braze the joint. See Figure 7.
Figure 7. Nitrogen Brazing the Joint
10. After brazing the joints on the VAPOR service valve, repeat this process on the LIQUID service
valve joints after removing the service port cap.
11. After both VAPOR and LIQUID service valve joints have been brazed and cooled, re-install the
service valve and charging port cores and proceed to seal test the joints (Note: Do not exceed
150 PSIG on compressor unit), evacuate and charge the system according to the Installation
Manual (SHC-IOM).
