Install guide for Shift-i in a
1998 to 2002 Ford Falcon

1. Take off the 2 screw covers for the Instrument cluster shown below and undo the 2 Phillips head
screws holding the cluster in. Push down at the base of the cluster near the odometer display then
pull the cluster out using the 2 screw holes at the top.
2. Disconnect the connections at the back of the cluster (Mid and Hi series cluster have 3 connectors
one on the left and 2 on the right)
3. Once disconnected we need to concentrate on the left hand side connector. You need to locate the
following wires
- Pin 1 – Black = Ground
- Pin 4 – Red & Dark Green = Ignition
- Pin 16 – Pink & White or Pink & Blue = Tacho input 0 to +12v pulsed

4. You need to run the wiring depending on where you want the Shift-i to sit. This one is running
down the steering column and into the dash area just below the cluster.
5. Splice into the wires and solder the corresponding wires using the table below.

Ignition Red & Dark Green Black & Red
Tacho Input Pink & White or Pink & Blue Black & Blue
6. Once you have soldered the wires and have used the electrical insulation tape to stop the wires
touching and shorting out. Then connect the cluster and switch the ignition on and the Shift-i unit
should light up if not refer to the manual troubleshooting.
7. Once everything is working put the cluster back in and then you can mount the Shift-i user some
wax & grease remover to clean the surface before applying the double sided tape.
8. Calibrate the unit according to the manual and to your required driving style

Here is a List of pin outs for the left had side connector for the cluster handy to locate the wires if
unsure.
