1. Anwendung
Die Lite-Ex PL 30 ist eine LED Taschenlampe zum industriellen oder feuerwehrtech-
nischen Einsatz in explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen für die Zonen 2, 1 und 0 sowie
22, 21 und 20 nach Richtlinie 1999/92/EG (ATEX).
2. Sicherheitshinweise
Die vorliegende Bedienungsanleitung enthält Informationen und Sicherheitsvor-
schriften, die für eine sichere Funktionsweise bei den beschriebenen Bedingungen
unbedingt zu berücksichtigen sind. Eine Nichtbeachtung dieser Informationen und
Hinweise kann gefährliche Folgen haben oder gegen Vorschriften verstoßen.
Vor dem Gebrauch des Geräts ist die Bedienungsanleitung aufmerksam
zu lesen! Im Zweifelsfall (in Form von Übersetzungs- oder Druckfehlern)
gilt die deutsche Bedienungsanleitung.
3. Fehler und unzulässige Belastungen
Sobald zu befürchten ist, dass die Gerätesicherheit beeinträchtigt wird, muss das
Gerät außer Betrieb genommen und unverzüglich aus dem Ex-Bereich entfernt
werden.
Die unbeabsichtigte Wiederinbetriebnahme muss verhindert werden.
Wir empfehlen das Gerät zu einer Überprüfung an den Hersteller zu schicken.
Die Gerätesicherheit kann z.B. gefährdet sein, wenn:
- am Gehäuse Beschädigungen sichtbar sind.
- das Gerät unsachgemäßen Belastungen ausgesetzt wurde.
- das Gerät unsachgemäß gelagert wurde.
- das Gerät Transportschäden erlitten hat.
- Gerätebeschriftungen unleserlich sind.
- Fehlfunktionen auftreten.
- die zulässigen Grenzwerte überschritten wurden.
Wir empfehlen, das Gerät zur Reparatur an ecom instruments GmbH einzusenden,
da in jedem Fall original ecom Ersatzteile verwendet werden müssen! Bei Verwen-
dung von Ersatzteilen eines Drittanbieters erlischt die Zulassung!
4. Sicherheitsvorschriften
Die Benutzung des Geräts setzt beim Anwender die Beachtung der üblichen Sicher-
heitsvorschriften und das Lesen des Zertifikates voraus, um Fehlbedienungen am
Gerät auszuschließen.

Folgende Sicherheitsvorschriften müssen zusätzlich beachtet werden:
- Das Gerät darf innerhalb des Ex-Bereiches nicht geöffnet werden.
- Die Batterien dürfen nur außerhalb des Ex-Bereiches gewechselt werden.
- Das Mitführen von zusätzlichen Batterien ist im Ex-Bereich nicht zulässig.
- Es dürfen nur typgeprüfte Batterien lt. Bedienungsanleitung eingesetzt werden.
- Es darf nur von ecom instruments GmbH zugelassenes Zubehör verwendet werden.
- Es dürfen nur original ecom Ersatzdichtungen und Ersatzscheiben Typ PL 30
verwendet werden.
- Der Kontakt des Gerätes mit aggressiven Säuren oder Basen ist zu vermeiden.
- Der innere Lampenkopf darf nicht geöffnet werden.
4.1 Besondere Bedingungen für den Einsatz in explosionsgefährdeten
Bereichen
- Ein Lagern der Lampe ist untersagt!
- Nach jedem Batterie- oder Dichtungsringwechsel sind Dichtungsringe und Gewinde
auf Sauberkeit, korrekten Sitz und Beschädigungen zu überprüfen.
- Die Gehäuseteile der Lampe müssen vor dem Einsatz im Ex-Bereich handfest
bzw. bis zum Anschlag verschraubt werden, um den IP-Schutz zu gewährleisten.
5. Sicherheitshinweis

- Nicht direkt in den Lichtstrahl blicken
- Lichtkegel nicht direkt auf die Augen einer anderen Person richten

8. Funktionsbeschreibung / Bedienungshinweise
Bitte lesen Sie diese Bedienungsanleitung sorgfältig durch, damit Sie alle Funktionen
Ihrer Lite-Ex PL 30 kennen und nutzen können. Lesen Sie zu Ihrer Sicherheit und
Information die Hinweise auf den folgenden Seiten!

8.1 Aufbau der Lite-Ex PL 30

8.2 Inbetriebnahme
Damit die Lampe im Ex-Bereich eingesetzt werden kann, muss sichergestellt sein,
dass der äußere Gehäusekopf und der Schaft komplett aufgeschraubt sind. Danach
kann die Lampe durch eine leichte Drehung des gelben Drehringes im Uhrzeigersinn
eingeschaltet werden. Die Batterien befinden sich werkseitig in der Lampe.
8.3 Batteriewechsel
Sollte festgestellt werden, dass die Leuchtkraft nicht mehr zufriedenstellend ist, soll-
ten die Batterien gewechselt werden. Es empfiehlt sich, alle 3 Batterien auf einmal zu
wechseln. Es dürfen nur Batterien des entsprechend zugelassenen Typs eingesetzt
werden (siehe Tabelle mit typgeprüften Batterien unter Punkt 7. Technische Daten).
Zum Batteriewechsel den Gehäusekopf inkl. Drehring festhalten und den Schaft
entgegen dem Uhrzeigersinn drehen und von der Lampe entfernen. Danach können
die Batterien aus dem Batteriefach entnommen und gewechselt werden. Nach
dem Einsetzen der neuen Batterien (Polarität beachten) kann der Schaft wieder
aufgeschraubt werden. Bitte achten sie darauf, dass die Lampe vor dem erneuten
Einschalten wieder komplett verschlossen ist.
Batteriewechsel
- Nur typgeprüfte Batterien verwenden. Siehe Tabelle, Punkt 7. Technische Daten.
- Immer alle Batterien gleichzeitig auswechseln.
- Auf richtige Polarität achten.
- Verbrauchte Batterien sach- und umweltgerecht entsorgen!
- Beim Batteriewechsel sind die Gewinde und Dichtungen auf Sauberkeit und
Beschädigungen zu überprüfen.

8.4 Reinigen des Drehrings
Die Lite-Ex PL 30 schaltet kontaktlos über den zuvor schon beschriebenen Drehring.
Schmutz und Feuchte können die Schalterfunktion nicht beieinträchtigen. Sollte
der Drehring durch starke Schmutzablagerungen schwergängiger werden, kann
der Ring einfach und problemlos gereinigt werden. Zunächst Schaft und Batterien
entfernen. (Siehe Punkt 8.3 Batteriewechsel). Der Drehring kann nun nach hinten ab-
gezogen und gereinigt werden. Beim Aufsetzen des Drehrings ist darauf zu achten,
dass die auf dem Drehring sichtbaren Pfeile und die Führungsschraube am unteren
Lampenkopf (siehe Bild 1) deckungsgleich sind. Danach Batterien wieder einsetzen
und Schaft aufschrauben.
8.5 Leuchtmittelwechsel
Die Lite-Ex PL 30 ist mit einem extrem langlebigen LED-Leuchtmittel ausgestattet.
Ein Wechsel der LED wird im Normalfall nicht notwendig sein. Bei einem Defekt
oder bei nachlassender Helligkeit ist die Lampe zur Überprüfung oder Reparatur an
ecom instruments zu senden. Der innere Lampenkopf darf nicht geöffnet werden!
Selbständige Eingriffe am Lampenkopf oder Leuchtmittel gefährden die Sicherheit
der Lampe und sind nicht zulässig.
8.6 Wechsel der Schutzscheibe
Der Lampenkopf ist durch den ihn umgebenden Gehäusekopf und durch eine
zusätzliche Scheibe am Lichtaustritt geschützt. Sollte es trotz der eingesetzten,
hochwertigen Scheibe zu einem Bruch kommen, so kann diese gewechselt werden.
Dazu wird der Schaft der Lite-Ex PL 30 sowie der Drehring festgehalten und der
Gehäusekopf vorsichtig gegen den Uhrzeigersinn abgeschraubt. Der Gehäusekopf
ist anschließend gut zu reinigen und der Dichtungsring auf Beschädigungen zu
prüfen. Danach kann die neue Scheibe und gegebenenfalls ein neuer Dichtungsring
eingesetzt werden. Der Dichtungsring liegt zwischen Gehäusekopf und Scheibe (sie-
he Bild 1). Beim Aufsetzen des Gehäusekopfes ist darauf zu achten, dass Dichtung
und Scheibe sauber anliegen. Es dürfen nach der Montage keine Dichtungsanteile
im Lichtaustritt sichtbar sein. Sind der innere Lampenkopf oder die Linse ebenfalls
beschädigt worden, so ist die Lampe zur Reparatur an den Hersteller zu senden.
9. Reparatur
Bei Reparaturen gelten jeweils unterschiedliche nationale Bestimmungen und Richtli-
nien. Wir empfehlen daher die Reparatur bei der ecom instruments GmbH, Deutsch-
land, da eine sicherheitstechnische Überprüfung bei einer Reparatur erforderlich ist.

10. Reinigung, Wartung und Lagerung
- Gerät nur mit einem geeigneten Tuch oder Schwamm reinigen. Verwenden Sie zur
Reinigung keine Lösungs- oder Scheuermittel.
- Es wird empfohlen, Funktion und Lichtleistung des Geräts alle zwei Jahre vom
Hersteller überprüfen zu lassen.
- Bei längerer Lagerung sind die Batterien aus dem Gerät zu entnehmen.
- Zulässige Lagertemperaturen –30 °C bis +60 °C nicht unter- bzw. überschreiten!
11. Entsorgung
Elektroaltgeräte sowie „historische“ Elektroaltgeräte von der Firma ecom instruments
GmbH werden zu unseren Lasten der Entsorgung zugeführt und nach der europä-
ischen Richtlinie 2002/96/EG und dem deutschen Elektro-Gesetz vom 16.03.2005
kostenfrei entsorgt. Der Versand der Geräte zu ecom instruments GmbH geht auf
Kosten des Versenders.
Nach Artikel 1, §18 und Artikel 2 des Gesetzes zur Neuregelung der abfallrechtlichen
Produktverantwortung für Batterien und Akkumulatoren vom 25. Juni 2009 sind wir
zu folgenden Hinweisen verpflichtet.
Ihr Gerät enthält eine alkalische Batterie.
Sind die Batterien „leer“ dürfen Sie nicht in den normalen Müll oder Hausmüll.
Altbatterien enthalten möglicherweise Schadstoffe, die Umwelt und Gesundheit
schaden können. Bitte geben Sie die Batterien zurück. Die Rückgabe ist unentgelt-
lich und gesetzlich vorgeschrieben. Bitte werfen Sie nur entladene Batterien in die
aufgestellten.
Achtung: Die im Gerät eingesetzte Batterie birgt eine Feuergefahr und die Gefahr von
chemischen Verletzungen bei nicht ordnungsgemäßem Einsatz. Weder die Batterie
noch die Batteriezellen dürfen geöffnet oder demontiert, nicht über 100 °C erhitzt
oder verbrannt werden.
Im Entsorgungsfall kann die Batterie wie in Punkt (8.3) beschrieben entnommen wer-
den. Im Übrigen gelten die oben genannten Entsorgungsvorschriften für Altgeräte.
Alle Batterien werden wieder verwertet. So lassen sich wertvolle Rohstoffe wie Eisen,
Zink oder Nickel wieder gewinnen.
Das Symbol hat folgende Bedeutung: Batterien und Akkus dürfen nicht in den
normalen Müll oder Hausmüll.

12. Garantie und Haftung
Für dieses Produkt gewährt die ecom instruments GmbH laut den allgemeinen Ge-
schäftsbedingungen eine Garantie von zwei Jahren auf Funktion und Material unter
den angegebenen und zulässigen Betriebs- und Wartungsbedingungen. Ausgenom-
men hiervon sind alle Verschleißteile (z.B. Batterien, Leuchtmittel, etc).
Für das Gehäuse gewährt ecom instruments GmbH eine lebenslange Garantie.
Die Garantie erstreckt sich auf Schäden am Gehäuse, die durch die sachgemäße
Nutzung der Lampe entstanden sind. Nach Ablauf der allgemeinen Garantiezeit von
2 Jahren sind lediglich Lohnkosten, Sicherheitsüberprüfungen und Frachten bei
Reparaturen kostenpflichtig. Die Garantie erlischt, wenn der Lampenkopf geöffnet
oder das Siegel beschädigt wurde.
Diese Garantie erstreckt sich nicht auf Produkte, die unsachgemäß verwendet,
verändert, vernachlässigt, durch Unfälle beschädigt oder anormalen Betriebsbedin-
gungen sowie einer unsachgemäßen Handhabung ausgesetzt wurden.
Forderungen auf Gewährleistungen können durch Einsenden des defekten Geräts
geltend gemacht werden. Reparaturen, neues Einjustieren oder Austauschen des
Gerätes behalten wir uns vor.
Die voranstehenden Garantiebestimmungen sind das einzige und alleinige Recht
auf Schadenersatz des Erwerbers und gelten ausschließlich und an Stelle von allen
anderen vertraglich oder gesetzlichen Gewährleistungspflichten. ecom instruments
GmbH übernimmt keine Haftung für spezielle, unmittelbare, mittelbare, Begleit- oder
Folgeschäden sowie Verluste, unabhängig davon, ob sie auf Verletzung der Gewähr-
leistungspflicht, rechtmäßige oder unrechtmäßige Handlungen, Handlungen in gutem
Glauben sowie andere Handlungen zurückzuführen sind.
Falls in einigen Ländern die Begrenzung einer gesetzlichen Gewährleistung sowie
der Ausschluss oder Begrenzung von Begleit- oder Folgeschäden nicht zulässig ist,
könnte es sein, dass die obengenannten Einschränkungen und Ausschlüsse nicht
für jeden Erwerber gelten. Sollte irgendeine Klausel dieser Garantiebestimmungen
von einem zuständigen Gericht für unwirksam oder nicht durchsetzbar befunden
werden, so bleiben die Wirksamkeit oder Erzwingbarkeit irgendeiner anderen Bedin-
gung dieser Garantiebestimmungen von einem solchen Spruch unberührt.

1. Application
The Lite-Ex PL 30 is an LED pocket torch designed for industrial applications or use
in potentially explosive areas of Zones 2, 1 and 0 as well as 22, 21 and 20 in accor-
dance with Directive 1999/92/EC (ATEX).
2. Safety instructions
These operating instructions contain information and safety regulations that must
be followed to ensure safe and reliable operation of the unit under the described
conditions. Failure to follow the information and instructions can have dangerous
consequences or may contravene applicable regulations.
Please take the time to carefully read through the owner’s manual before
you start using the unit. In the event of any doubt or discrepancies (for ex-
ample, due to translation or printing errors), the German version of these
operating instructions shall prevail.
3. Errors and load restrictions
If there is any risk that the safety or integrity of the unit has been compromised,
the unit must be taken out of operation immediately and removed from the Ex-area
without delay.
Action must be taken to prevent the device from being accidentally placed into
operation again.
We recommend sending the unit to the manufacturer to be examined.
The safety and reliability of the unit may be at risk if, for example:
- Damage is visible on the housing
- The unit has been subjected to excessive loads for which it is not designed
- The unit has been improperly stored
- The unit has been damaged in transit
- Labels or markings on the unit are illegible
- Malfunctions occur
- Permitted tolerances or threshold values have been exceeded
In the unlikely event that the product becomes faulty, it is recommended that any
repairs are carried out only by ecom instruments GmbH as the use of non-ecom
spare parts invalidates both the warranty and the Ex-certification.
4. Safety regulations
Persons using the unit must observe the standard safety regulations and read the
certificate to prevent incorrect operation or misuse of the unit.

The following additional safety regulations must also be observed:
- The unit must not be opened within the Ex-area.
- The batteries must only be changed outside the Ex-area.
- Additional or spare batteries must not be carried in the Ex-area.
- Only approved battery types may be used.
- Only spare sealing rings and discs of ecom instruments are allowed.
- Only accessories approved by ecom instruments GmbH may be used.
- Prevent the unit from coming into contact with aggressive acidic or alkaline solutions.
- Do not open the inside torch head.
4.1 Special requirements for use in ex-hazardous areas
- Storing of the torch is prohibited!
- After changing the batteries or the sealing rings always check to make sure that
the sealing rings and threads are clean and in good condition.
- Before using the lamp in the Ex-hazardous area and in order to ensure the IP ra-
ting, please check that all parts of the unit are hand tightened up to the stop
– being careful not to over-tighten.
5. Safety instructions
Caution! Strong light may blind other people.
- Do not look directly into the light.
- Do not shine the light directly into the eyes of other people.

that you are familiar with all of the functions of your Lite-Ex PL 30 and know how to
use all of the functions. For you own safety and information please read through the
information on the following pages.

8.1 Lite-Ex PL 30 components

8.2 Getting started
In order to be able to use the torch in the Ex-area, you must first check that the
outer housing head and body are screwed on completely. After this has been done,
you can switch on the torch by turning the yellow twist ring slightly in a clockwise
direction. The torch is supplied with factory-fitted batteries.
8.3 Battery replacement
When the brightness is no longer satisfactory, the batteries should be replaced. It is
strongly recommended that all three batteries be replaced together. When replacing
the batteries, only use approved battery types (see table of approved battery types in
section 7. Technical data).
To replace the batteries, hold on to the housing head and the twist ring, and turn the
body of the torch anticlockwise until it comes off. Take the used batteries out of the
battery compartment, observing correct polarity and replace them with new ones.
After you insert the new batteries screw the body of the torch back on. Make sure
that torch components are screwed together securely before switching the torch on.
Battery replacement
- Only use approved battery types. See table in section 7. Technical data.
- Always replace all of the batteries together.
- Make sure that the polarity of the inserted batteries is correct.
- Please ensure that all used batteries are properly disposed of in an environmental-
ly friendly manner.
- After changing the batteries or the sealing rings always check to make sure that

8.4 Cleaning the twist ring
A non-contacting twist ring is used to switch on the Lite-Ex PL 30 (see description
above). Dirt or moisture does not effect the function. The twist ring is easy to clean
if excessive amounts of dirt and grime have made it difficult to turn. First take off the
torch body and remove the batteries (see section 8.3 Battery replacement). Remove
the twist ring by sliding it off the back of the torch, and then clean the ring. When
putting the twist ring back on, make sure that the arrow marks on the ring line up
with the alignment screw on the bottom part of the torch head (see illustration 1).
Then re-insert the batteries, and screw the body of the torch back on.
8.5 Lamp replacement
The Lite-Ex PL 30 is equipped with an extremely long-lasting LED lamp. Replacing
the LED is normally not required. If, however, the torch is defective or the brightness
of the torch has diminished, it should be sent to ecom instruments for inspection or
repair. Under no circumstances should you attempt to open the torch head. Manipu-
lating the torch head or LED on your own poses a risk to the safety of the torch and
is not permitted.
8.6 Replacing the spare disc
The torch head is protected by the housing head that surrounds it as well as an
additional disc, which is positioned over the opening where the beam is emitted. The
disc is made of high-quality material. Should, however, the disc break, it is possible
to replace it. To replace the disc, hold on to the body of the Lite-Ex PL 30 and
the twist ring, and carefully unscrew the housing head by turning it anticlockwise.
Clean the housing head thoroughly to remove any remaining pieces, and check the
sealing ring for damage. After this has been done, you can install a new glass disc
and, if necessary, new sealing rings. Only spare sealing rings of ecom instruments
are allowed. The sealing ring is positioned between the housing head and the disc
(see illustration 1). When putting the housing head back on, ensure that the seal is
positioned properly on the disc. After installation, you should not be able to see any
part of the sealing ring through the opening where the beam is emitted. If the inside
of the torch head or lens is also damaged, the torch should be sent to the manufac-
turer for repair.
9. Repairs
Repair work is subject to the nationally valid regulations and directives. We therefore
recommend that such work be performed by ecom instruments GmbH, Germany, as
all repairs must be examined to ensure functional safety.

10. Cleaning, maintenance and storage
- Only use a suitable cloth or sponge to clean the unit. Do not use solvents or abra-
sive cleaning agents to clean the unit.
- We recommended having the operation and lumen output of the device checked
by the manufacturer every two years.
- The batteries should be taken out of the unit if it is to be stored for extended periods.
- The storage temperature should be within the permitted range of -30 °C to +60 °C.
11. Disposal
Old electrical equipment and „historic“ old electrical equipment from ecom in-
struments GmbH will be disposal obligation and disposed of at no cost in accor-
dance with the EC Directive 2002/96/EC and the German Electrical and Electronic
Equipment law of 16/03/2005. The costs of the transport of the equipment to ecom
instruments GmbH are borne by the sender.
In accordance with “Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators and waste
batteries” we are obligated to provide you with the following information:
Your device contains an alkaline battery.
Depleted batteries should never be disposed of along with normal or household
waste. Old batteries can contain harmful substances that are hazardous to health
and damaging to the environment. Please return the batteries. Return is free of
charge and required by law. Please only dispose of discharged batteries in the
designated containers.
Note: The battery used in this unit poses a fire hazard and can cause chemical
injuries if it is used improperly. Neither the battery nor the battery cells should be
opened or disassembled and they should not be burned or exposed to temperatures
exceeding 100 °C.
If the battery needs to be disposed of, it can be removed as described under point
(8.3). The disposal regulations specified above are also applicable for old devices.
All batteries can be recycled. Precious raw materials such as iron, zinc and nickel
can therefore be reused.
The symbol has the following meaning: Batteries and rechargeable batteries
should not be disposed of along with normal or household waste.

12. Warranty and liability
Under the general terms and conditions of business, ecom instruments GmbH offers
a two-year warranty for function and materials on this product when used under the
specified operating and maintenance conditions. Batteries, LED/Lamps and working
parts are considered consumable parts and are not covered under the warranty.
In addition to the standard 2 years manufacturer’s warranty, ecom instruments GmbH
offers an optional lifetime warranty on the torch housing. This warranty includes dama-
ge which is incurred only when the device is properly used. Damage to the front disc
is not included, neither is damage in the form of cosmetic and superficial scratches to
the housing or to the ‘Ex-certification’ and other text contained on the housing.
After the 2 years standard warranty period, in the event that the housing has to be
changed, this optional lifetime warranty does not include any costs that may be
incurred for inspection, packing and carriage etc. This warranty is only limited by the
future availability of spare parts. This warranty is invalidated if the torch head unit
has been opened / tampered with in any way or if the sealing is damaged.
This warranty does not extend to products that have been used improperly, altered,
neglected, damaged by accident or subjected to abnormal operating conditions
or improper handling. In the event of a warranty claim, the faulty device should be
returned to ecom instruments GmbH. We reserve the right to readjust, repair or
replace the unit.
The above warranty terms represent the sole rights of the purchaser to compensation
and apply exclusively and in place of all other contractual or statutory warranty obli-
gations. ecom instruments GmbH does not accept liability for specific, direct, indirect,
incidental or consequential damages or losses, regardless of whether they are caused
by breach of warranty, lawful or unlawful actions, actions in good faith or other actions.
If in certain countries the restriction of statutory warranty and the exclusion or re-
striction of incidental or consequential damages is unlawful, then it may be possible
that the above restrictions and exclusions do not apply for all purchasers. If any
clause in these warranty terms should be found to be invalid or unenforceable by a
competent court, then such a judgement shall not affect the validity or enforceability
of any other clause contained in these warranty terms.
