Some dust created by power sanding, sawing,
grinding, drilling, and other construction activi-
tiescontainschemicalsknowntocausecancer,
birthdefects,orotherreproductive harm. Some
examples of these chemicals are:
•Lead from lead-based paints, and
•Crystalline silica from bricks and concrete and other
masonry products.
Your risk of exposure to these chemicals varies depending
on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your risk:
workinawellventilatedarea, use adustcontrol system, such
as an industrial-style vacuum, and wear approved personal
safetyequipment, such as adust/particlerespiratordesigned
to filter out microscopic particles.
READ AND UNDERSTAND THE OPERATORS INSTRUCTION MANUAL THOROUGHLY
BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO OPERATE THIS EQUIPMENT.
Death or serious injury could occur if this machine is used improperly.
Extreme care must be taken when operating electric
modelswithwaterpresent: Ensure power cord is prop-
erlygrounded, is attachedtoaGround-Fault-Interrupter
(GFI) outlet, and is undamaged.
•Check all electrical cables - be sure connections are tight and
cable is continuous and in good condition. Be sure cable is
correctly rated for both the operating current and voltage of
this equipment.
•Improperconnection oftheequipment-grounding conductorcan
result in a risk of electric shock. Check with qualified electri-
cian or service person if there is any doubt as to whether the
outlet is properly grounded. Adhere to all local codes and
ordinances.
•NOTE: In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding
provides a path of least resistance for the electric current to
dissipate. The motor is equipped with a grounded plug and
must be connected to an outlet that is properly installed and
properly grounded. DO NOT modify the plug provided on the
motor. If the plug does not fit the outlet have a qualified electri-
cian install the proper receptacle.
•Switch motor OFF before disconnecting power.
•Engine exhaust from this product contains
chemicals known to the State of California to
cause cancer, birth defects or other reprodutive
harm.
• Gasoline is extremely flammable and poisonous.
It should only be dispensed in well ventilated areas,
and with a cool engine.
•Small gasoline engines produce high concentrations of car-
bon monoxide (CO) example: a 5 HP 4 cycle engine oper-
ation in an enclosed 100,000 cu. ft. area with only one
change of air per hour is capable of providing deadly con-
centrations of CO in less than fifteen minutes. Five changes
of air in the same area will produce noxious fumes in less
than 30 minutes. Gasoline or propane powered equipment
should not be used in enclosed or partially enclosed areas.
Symptoms of CO poisoning include, headache, nausea,
weakness, dizziness, visual problems and loss of consciou-
ness. If symptoms occur - get into fresh air and seek medical
attention immediately.

• Maintain control of the air hose fittings while connections are being made. Air pressure in the hose can cause it to
whip if it is not secured.
• Do not attempt machine maintenance or cleaning unless the spark plug wire has been disconnected.
• Do not allow any modifications that do not meet the quality and standards of the original equipment.
• Do not use for heavy duty industrial equipment that require large continuous amounts of air pressure. Be certain
the air flow requirements of the equipment (CFM) do not exceed the compressor rated continuous CFM.
• Do not run over the air hose during operation as a hazard may occur.
• Do not try to pull on the air hose to move the machine, personal injury and damage to machine and air hose could
result.
***CAUTION***
***CAUTION***
THE COMPRESSOR UNIT MUST BE LEVEL PRIOR TO OPERATION.
This product is for commercial use only.
The compressor has to be operated on a level surface because it is splash lubricated, meaning there
is no oil pump for lubrication. If operated on a surface that is not level, damage can result because
of improper lubrication.
Do not expose the air hose to sharp corners or edges. Do not run over the air hose or connectors. Keep the air hose
away from heated surfaces. Do not use if the air hose or connector is damaged. Do not pull the unit using the air hose
as a pull rope. Damage to the air hose may result and cause damage or serious injury.
Ear protection should be worn if working in close proximity to the compressor for an extended period of time.
Failure to wear ear protection can result in permanent hearing damage.
• Do not operate the machine if it is not on a level surface. Damage to the machine will result.
• Shut engine off before transporting, angle will starve engine for lubrication oil. Damage to equip-
ment will result.
• Be sure to follow healthy and safety recommended lifting practices when moving the machine.

CONTROLS
START/STOP CONTROL (electric motor option only)
When the pressure in the air receiver reaches a designated low level, approximately 110 P.S.I.G. (drawing 9.9 Amps), the pres-
sure switch starts the motor. When the pressure in the air receiver reaches a designated high level, approximately 135 P.S.I.G., the
pressure switch stops the motor. Single stage compressors cut in at approximately 105 P.S.I.G. and cut out at approximately 125
P.S.I.G.
NOTE: An electric motor should not be subjected to more than fifteen (15) starts per hour. Damage to the
equipment will result.
CONSTANT SPEED CONTROL
The electric motor or gasoline engine is constantly running and the pump on the compressor is constantly pumping. When the
pressure in the air receiver reaches the designated high level, approximately 127 P.S.I.G., a pilot unloader valve will channel the
air being compressed into the atmosphere instead of into the air receiver. During this step, the motor or the engine, continues to
run (engine will idle). When the designated low pressure in the air receiver is reached, approximately 105 P.S.I.G. (drawing 9.9
Amps), the pilot unloader valve will redirect the air being compressed to the air receiver (the engine speed will return to the high
RPM level).
NOTE: All gasoline units must be built this way and any electrical units can be ordered with constant speed
control.
DUAL CONTROL
Compressors can be equipped with both start-stop and constant speed controls. With this feature the operator can change the
control of the unit as their needs change from start-stop to constant speed. (See Figure 2).
COLD-STARTING PROCEDURE
Cold weather conditions present starting problems for air compressors. As operating temperatures decrease, the oil weight used in
the air pump must be thinned according to the OIL TYPE TABLE on page 7.
It is also necessary to remove the effects of the back pressure (load) on a cold motor. A drain cock is installed on the 90º “finned”
aftercooler as a means to eliminate the load. Open the aftercooler drain cock and allow the motor and the pump to run “unloaded”
for one to two minutes. Repeat the procedure if the motor continues to struggle.
Available on electric with
dual control option only.

Drain air pressure to release load. Turn on gasoline shown below and follow engine manufacturers instructions.
LUBRICATION
Prior to daily operation, make a habit of checking the oil level in your compressor pump. A sight glass on the outside of the pump’s
crankcase is provided to make the job easier. Always maintain the oil level to read 2/3 full on the sight glass 1/2 minimum (See Fig-
ure 3). Oil levels over this amount will result in oil blowing past the rings or through the crankcase breather. Lower amounts of oil
will result in insufficient lubrication of moving parts.
Reciprocating compressors will consume a certain amount of oil under normal operation. If you are concerned about your oil con-
sumption, monitor and record oil consumption daily and consult your local dealer. When filling your crankcase with oil, be sure to
use a single viscosity, non-detergent oil. DO NOT USE A DETERGENT OIL! (See oil type table below)
OPERATION
Temperature 0-40º 40º & Above
NON-DETERGENT - Straight Weight 10WT* 30WT*
NOTE: Unit must be level when in operation.
On electric motor options, as the compressor starts, check the rotation of the flywheel. Direction of the rotation should conform to
the arrow on the flywheel. Should the rotation be incorrect, disengage the power supply and consult an electrician to check the mo-
tor wiring. OIL TYPE TABLE
*For maximum performance and service life, we recommend using a Premium Quality compressor oil.

PILOT VALVE ADJUSTMENT
RESETTING DIFFERENTIAL (2)
Make sure the top toggle lever is positioned as shown. (See Figure 7). Loosen locknut
(1) by turning counter-clockwise several full turns. Gently turn differential setting (2)
clockwise only until the internal rod makes contact with the steel ball inside. After mak-
ing contact, turn differential (2) counter-clockwise 1/4 turn. Hold this position with one
wrench and proceed to top end setting.
TOP END SETTING (4)
Loosen locknut (3) by turning counter-clockwise several full turns. (4) is the top end
setting. Turning (4) clockwise will increase the top end pressure setting. Turning counter-
clockwise will decrease the top end pressure setting. Begin at a low setting by turning
counter-clockwise one full turn. Proceed to fine tuning instructions.
FINE TUNING INSTRUCTIONS
Start engine/motor and observe tank pressure gauge. As tank pressure approaches 130
P.S.I.G., the pilot valve should begin unloading at felt muffler and cause gas engine to
slow down to idle speed. If pilot valve does not unload as tank pressure approaches 130
P.S.I.G., slowly turn top end setting (4) counter-clockwise until pilot starts to unload. If pi-
lot valve starts to unload prematurely (at 100 P.S.I.G.), turn top end setting (4) clockwise
in 1/4 turn increments, tap down on the internal rod at toggle attachment, and repeat
until desired top end setting is reached. If pilot valve begins to rifle (sputter), fine tune dif-
ferential setting (2) 1/16 turn in either direction until rifling stops. After fine tuning, secure
settings by turning locknuts (1 & 3) clockwise until tight. Hold setting (2 & 4) in place with
one wrench while turning locknuts to secure.
SCHMIDT BELT TIGHTENING DEVICE
To adjust (tighten) belt tension, proceed as follows:
1. Loosen locknuts for engine hold-down bolts only until washers beneath spin freely.
2. Rotate 1/2” adjusting bolt clockwise until desired tension is reached. (See Figure 8).
3. Retighten hold-down bolts.

Maintenance Schedule
Your new compressor represents the finest engineering and construction available, however, regular maintenance insures trouble-
free operation. Be certain to follow the maintenance schedule below to get peak performance from your compressor.
* Always make sure crankcase vent (breather) is free and unobstructed when changing or checking oil.
Pump up times (0 to 120 psi) Model PAC-8 40 seconds, Model PAC-5 1 minute 5 seconds.
NOTE: Test pump up periodically to determine if the air compressor system is working at maximum capabil-
ity. If the time is significantly off, one of the following is true:
1.There is an external plumbing leak that needs to be corrected.
2. An internal pump gasket/reed valve problem exsists in the upper head group.
NOTE: Always shut down your compressor, remove the spark plug (gasoline models)wire or disconnect power
at compressor (electric models) and completely drain the air tanks before attempting any type of maintenance!
IMPORTANT: CHANGE THE COMPRESSOR OIL* AFTER THE FIRST 50 HOURS (2 WEEKS) OF OPERATION.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Prior to initial starting, make sure the crankcase is filled to the designated level (within the notched area on the dip-
stick). DO NOT USE A DETERGENT OIL! Use a premium gradeAir Compressor Oil. Any questions call EDCO at
1-800-638-3326 for information.
DO NOT OVERFILL WITH OIL! OVER FILLING MAY FORCE OIL BETWEEN MOTOR COMPONENTS RESULT-
ING IN COMPLETE MOTOR BURN-UP.
The Compressor should be started and stopped with the ON/OFF switch ONLY. Never unplug the compressor while
the unit is running. Never plug the unit in unless the power switch is in the off position.
START STOP CONTROL
When the pressure in the tank reaches a designated low level, the pressure switch starts the motor. When the pres-
sure in the tank reaches a designated high level, the pressure switch stops the motor. Single stage compressors cut in
at approximately 105 P.S.I.G. and cut out at approximately 135 P.S.I.G.
To increase pressure setting out of storage tank, simply lift up on outside of regulator (yellow adjusting knob) and turn
clockwise until desired pressure is reached. Push outside of knob back down to lock adjustment in place.
ADJUSTING AIR FLOW

To obtain the longest possible service life from your new compressor, adhere to the following oper-
ating instructions.
1. Always operate the unit in a level position. All splash lubricated pumps have a dipper on the bot-
tom of the connecting rod that must remain submerged in the oil bath to provide proper lubrication.
Operation at more than a 15° angle will cause connecting rod to seize and severely reduce the
service life of your air compressor.
2. Change the pump oil at regular intervals. Refer to chart for the proper oil to use. DO NOT
OVERFILL WITH OIL.
3. Inspect and change the air intake elements at regular intervals.
4. Always operate with rubber vibration pads (feet) intact. Additional efforts to minimize vibration
(operation on a rubber mat or carpet remnant) are highly suggested. Damage caused by operation
without rubber feet (excessive vibration) will not be covered by the warranty.
5. Use longer air hose rather than extension cords. If an extension cord must be used, refer to
chart below for proper gauge and maximum length that can be used.
6. Do not use a generator as a power source.
7. Tighten bolts and hardware as necessary. If your compressor seems to have an excessive vi-
bration problem, contact your dealer to locate the nearest service center.
8. Do not operate in the rain.
9. If storing the compressor for any length of time, periodically (monthly) run the compressor
through several cycles to keep the internal components lubricated.
