EDS-TECHNICALINFORMATION
6=COM(common) 5=NC(normally closed)
4=NA(normmally open). The connection is
valid for a not powered relay. The terminals
are voltage free.
Thedetector'sopticalhead mustbe connectedto the
detectingunitas indicated in fig.5using a shielded
cable containing two conductors and a shield
conductorAFTPLevel 5 (4x2xAWG24) shielded
cableis suggested. Theopicalhead can beinstalled
upto250m away from thedetector.
7-TheJP4jumper(fig.3)permits,dependingonthe
position,the functioning withnormallypowered or
normallynot poweredrelay .So:
1-2position= powered relay
2-3position= not powered relay
Oncetheworking mode is selected,theconnection
ofthe output relay contacthasto be done correctly.
8- The FL20BA/BI detector has two adjustable
parameters(see fig.3):
-sensitivityregulation
-alarmdelayregulation
Asthedetectorisprovidedwithtwosensorsworking
ondifferent wavelenghts and withtwoindipendent
detectioncircuits,both thesensitivityregulationand
thealarm delay regulationaredoubled. So whenan
adjustmentofoneof thesetwoparametersis desired,
adouble regulationhasto bedone:
-trimmers P1and P3for sesitivity
-trimmers P2 andP4for alarm delay
TrimmersP1andP2arerelativetothedetectioncircuit
of sensor 1, trimmers P3 and P4 are relative to the
detectioncircuit ofsensor 2.
FL20BA/BI Flame Detector
The FL20BA/BI Flame Detector is able to detect
a flame produced inside its viewing range in a few
seconds.Itsinstallationisverysimpleandcanbedone
inafewminutes.Toobtainthebestresultswesuggest
toreadtheinstructionsbelowcompletelyandtofollow
theprocedures describedcarefully .
1- The FL20BA/BI reacts with great sensitivity
to infrared radiations emitted by an adequately
powerful source located in its viewing range. The
lone infrared radiation emittion in not sufficient to
cause an alarm. In fact it is necessary that the
emission is perturbated like the flame's one. If on
the contrary the infrared source is constant, for
example like the emission of an radiator, the
detector ignores it.
2- The device must be installed on a wall or on the
ceiling.Normally,tosurveilgoodslocatedonthefloor,
theceilinginstallationissuggested.Theinstallingmust
bedonecarefullyfollowing therulesoutlinedinthe
normsaboutexplosiondangerousenvironments(CEI
64-2).
3-The installationheight isrelative tothe areato be
protectedconsideringthatthedetector'sviewingrange
isabout120°andthatthemaximumdistanceforflame
detection(fora 20 cm hight petrol generated flame
withatarget of 20 x 20 cm) it's 20 m.Thefig.1 e 2
diagramsindicate thediameter andthe coveredarea
relatedtotheinstallationheight.
4- To install the cables it is suggested to use the
marked breakable zones on the lateral surfaces of
thedevice.
5- Select the power supply voltafe using the JP3
jumper, 12 V dc (contact 2-3) or 24 V dc (contact
1-2).
6-Connecttheterminalblockswitha shieldedcable
asfollows:
-1-positivepoleof the power supply (+)
-2- negative pole of the power supply(-)
- 3 - connect to the cable for remote test button
- 4-5-6 - alarm relay mode switch.
3
EDS-TECHNICALINFORMATION
If the above regulations are performed it's good to
adjustthetrimmersofthetwocircuitssimmetrically.
For example if the sensitivity of circuit 1 ( P1 ) is
regulatedtohalf scale, it wouldbegood to regulate
tohalf scalethesensitivityofcircuit2also(P3).
Normallythedetectorissetinourfactorytothemaximum
sensitivityandwithanalarmdelayof10seconds.
Iftheareatobeprotectedislargerthanthemaximum
coverableareaofthedetector,itwouldbealsobegood
toreducethesensitivity.Inthiswayabetterfalsealarm
immunityisobtained.Theoptimumalarmdelayisabout
10-12seconds.
9- Once that the installing and the adjusting
operationsare doneyou cangoon withthe working
test(ifpermittedbytheenvironmentalconditions).
In this case, after power supplying the device, it is
necessarytoproduce,withpetrol,a20cmhighflame
ona20x20cmbase andpositionedatthemaximum
distanceindicatedfor thedetector.Aftera10-12sec.
delayan alarmshould begenerated.
Thistestmustbeconductedunderhigh surveillance.
10 - The FL20BA/BI is provided with a remote
test circuit.
Tousethis feature it isnecessaryto connect a cable
toterminal3.Thenconnectabutton(normallyopen
contact)between thiscableand thenegativepole of
thepower supply (seefig. 4).
By pressing the button the internal test circuit that
simulatesaflameisactivatedandafterthealarmdelay,
thedetector givesout analarm.
11 -Ifsomefalsealarmstakesplace,verifyifthere is
anyperturbatingelementintheenvironment(seepoint
1)andeventually adjustthesensitivityandthealarm
relaylevels.
12- The FL20BA/BI detector can work with only
one of the circuits described in point 7. To activate
or deactivate a circuit it's necessary to use JP1
and JP2 jumpers. In the 1-2 position the jumper
deactivates the circuit, in the 2-3 position the
jumperactivates the circuit. Incaseof false alarms,
as the two circuits work on different wavelenghts,
it is possible to deactivate the circuit for a brief
period to get the dector to be not sensible to
eventualperturbatingelements.
13-Importantinstallationrules
13.1 - Avoid the detector's direct view of the sun
light (for example from a window). The sun is a
powerfulinfraredradiation source and if this sorce
is somehow "modulated" by some element, like
for example a curtain moved by the wind in front
of a window, it can cause false alarms.
13.2-Avoidthedetector'sdirectviewofincandescent
lampsmounted on theceilingthat can oscillate(the
oscillation produces a modulation of the infrared
radiationsemittedbythelamps)
13.3-Avoidthedetector's viewofanyotherinfrared
source that can be somehow modulated by any
environmentalcondition.Howeverconsiderthat,for
thedetector to giveout an alarm, itis necessary that
theinfraredsource remainsactive foratime equalto
the alarm delay time(8 - 10 sec. depending on the
regulation).Soshorttimemodulatedinfraredradiation
willnotcauseanalarm.
14 - Maintenance
Thedetector has tobetested periodically.
Ifthe detectorhasa testbutton, as indicatedin point
10,theWorkingTest isvery easyandquick.Ifnot,it
isnecessary toperformthe testusing a realflame as
decribedin point9.
It is suggested to periodically clean the viewing
window of the optical head. In fact an excessive
quantityofdirtcanlowerthedetector'ssensitivityand
itsoverallperformance.
