About this manual
This manual only contains information specific to systems
installed outside the United States and Canada. It is intended to
supplement the EST3 Installation and Service Manual, which
should be the primary source of information.
Chapter 1 provides special procedures for the installation and
electrical wiring of system components as required for LPCB
approval/certification.
Chapter 2 provides special procedures for the operation of
systems installed in the European market place.
Chapter 3 provides special installation and electrical wiring of
system components as required for the Chinese marketplace.

The EST3 library
A family of documents and multi-media presentations supports
the EST3 network. A brief description of each document is
provided below.
EST3 Installation Manual and Service Manual, P/N 270380.
This manual provides complete information on how to install
and service the EST3 hardware. This manual also includes
installation information on selected Signature Series
components.
EST3 Programming Manual, P/N 270381. This manual provides
quick reference information for defining and labeling individual
system components using the Systems Definition Utility (SDU),
and for writing rules to govern system operation.

General system requirements and special considerations
LPCB/EN-54-compliant systems
To achieve compliance with EN 54-2, -4: 1997 per LPCB, the
following considerations must be taken into account:
• There are no user serviceable parts within the CIE (Control
and Indicating Equipment). Contact your distributor for
assistance.
• The battery size is limited to 17 Ah and shall be
manufactured by GS Battery, Inc. type PE-12V Series.
• To eliminate the possibility of rail communication LEDs
from being misinterpreted as events, blank Kapton labels
supplied with the PPS/M-230-E must be applied over the rail
communication LEDs for every LRM installed in a rail slot.
• To invoke the correct functionality that complies with EN
54-2, -4: 1997, the project must be configured with the
Market Place setting set to European and the Primary
Language setting set to English U.K.
• The term used for zones in test throughout the EST3
documentation is Service Groups. Points within a Service
group must exactly match the points defined for each Zone.
The messages and zone numbers must also match.
• The 3-LKE insert must be installed in the 3-LCD.
• The terms sounder and audible may be used interchangeably.
All sounder circuits shall be configured as audibles.
• A dedicated disconnect device must be provided for each
installation.
Caution: The fault event message “Network panel xx off-line”
could indicate a serious failure, such as CPU Failure, of the
CIE (panel)/Repeater.
Caution: The fault event message “Power Supply” could
indicate a serious fault, such as battery charger failure or loss
of ac power.

The EST3 life safety system has been approved/certified to EN
54-2, -4: 1997 by LPCB along with the following options with
requirements:
• output to fire alarm devices
• alarm counter
• fault signals from points
• test conditions
• standardized input/output interface.
The products that were found compliant are listed in Table 1-1.

As a requirement of LPCB approval/certification to EN 54-2, -4:
1997, the assemblies listed in Table 1-2 were investigated as
ancillary to the EN-54 function. These products may be installed
in the same cabinet as the main CIE, however separation must be
provided between control/display modules designated as
fire-related functions and the ancillary control/display modules.

CE-compliant systems
In CE-compliant systems, special consideration must be given
regarding RF emissions. The standard EN55022 (CISPR 22)
includes two basic categories, Class B and Class A.
Class B systems are intended primarily for use in a domestic
environment and may include:
• Equipment with no fixed place of use. For example, portable
equipment powered by built-in batteries.
• Telecommunications terminal equipment powered by a
telecommunications network.
• Personal computers and auxiliary connected equipment.
Class A systems are all other systems that satisfy the Class A
limits but not the Class B limits. EST3 systems can be
configured to meet both Class A and Class B requirements for
emissions. Refer to CISPR 22 for information on Class A and
Class B limits.
Please contact your authorized distributor for the Declaration of
Conformity and a current list of compliant modules.
CISPR Class A systems
CISPR Class A systems meet the same requirements as
LPCB/EN-54 systems. Refer to Table 1-1 and Table 1-2 for a list
of the required hardware. Install according to the instructions
provided in their respective installation sheets and this manual.
WARNING: In this configuration, this is a Class A product. In a
domestic environment this product may cause radio interference
in which case the user may be required to take adequate
measures.
CISPR Class B systems
CISPR Class B systems can only be configured using 3-RCC-E
series cabinets. Wiring inside the cabinet must meet the same
requirements as LPCB/EN-54 systems with the following
additions:
• All low voltage wiring entering the cabinet must be shielded
and terminated inside the cabinet to studs provided
immediately at the point of entry. See Figure 1-3.
• Clamp a ferrite sleeve (ordered separately, P/N RFK1)
around each cable entering the cabinet close to the point of
entry

Note: Mains ac conductors do not require shielding or attaching
ferrite sleeves.
In addition, take extra care to avoid damaging the RF gasket on
the back box and cabinet door.

Installing E series cabinets
E series cabinets are available in two basic models, the
3-CABx-E and 3-RCCx-E. E series cabinets use the same back
boxes as those available in the United States and Canada and
accommodate 1-, 2-, or 3-rail chassis. Refer to Table 1-1 for a
list of available cabinets.
The doors for 3-CABx-E cabinets are specific to LPCB/EN-54.
3-CAB-E series cabinets doors allow level 1 access to the panel
without the aid of any special tools. To provide level 1 access to
the panel, the inner door incorporates a flexible mylar film
across the top opening. When closed, persons having the general
responsibility for safety supervision may still access the panel
control and fire-function annunciator strips.
The outer door assembly incorporates a protective gasket around
the upper door opening to prevent debris from entering the
enclosure.
To install an E series cabinet:
1. Install the cabinet back box. Refer to the applicable back box
installation sheet.
2. Install the cabinet doors. Refer to the applicable cabinet door
installation sheet.

Installing a Repeater/Remote Control Unit
Caution: This product contains components that are sensitive
to static electricity. Failure to follow proper handling
procedures will result in equipment damage.
Assembling the repeater/remote control unit
To assemble the repeater/remote control unit:
1. Install the cabinet back box. Refer to the back box
installation sheet.
2. Install the cabinet doors. Refer to the cabinet door
installation sheet.
3. Install the 3-ANNCPU1. Refer to the 3-ANNCPU1
installation sheet.
Wiring the repeater/remote control unit
Make the field wiring connections as indicated in the
3-ANNCPU1 installation sheet with the following exceptions:
• Do not attach a wire from earth to TB1-EGND
• If used as a remote control unit (only user interface), power
for remote control units must be supervised as shown in
Figure 1-4
