Safety and Health
UV BARx1 is a handheld unit intended for disinfection of bacteria and virus on surfaces. This
handheld unit has a UV-C lamp installed emitting radiation at 254nm. UV-C radiation, even in
small doses, can cause eye- and skin hazards. UV BARx1 must not be used if it is defect or
malfunctioning in any way. Unintended handling and/or use of UV BARx1 or using UV BARx1 in a
defect state, can cause danger to the user or to other people in the area.
Operating the UV BARx1 safely requires detailed knowledge about the dangers which can be
caused by the device and strict following of the safety procedures and directives in this manual.
The product is intended for use by one single operator to disinfect defined areas in offices,
institutions, clinics, production environments or other places where areas are being touched by
one or many humans, being a potential Hotspot for spreading of bacteria and virus.
UV BARx1 must never be used to radiate humans or animals. It is intended for exposure of
surfaces of different materials. However, frequent exposure of organic substrates can make the
materials more brittle, give them a chalky surface, and fade or change the color and other effects.
UV BARx1 is emitting UV-C light in 254nm, which inactivates by changing the RNA and prevents
the reproduction of bacteria, viruses and protozoa, so normal cleaning is still needed to remove
dirt and dust.
To secure safe and proper operation, the system must be handled and operated correctly and
used with suitable Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). The following pages will cover security
aspects that new users must always understand well and follow.
It is very IMPORTANT that all operators read and understand the Safety Instructions
carefully!
Ultraviolet radiation
UV light from a UV lamp and specially UV-C light is very harmful to eyes and
skin. Proper shielding of persons and living organisms in the surroundings
within 10 m of the UV-C source must be established. Persons operating the
application or being close to it during operation must wear appropriate
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect eyes and skin against UV-C
radiation. Protection is needed against both indirect (reflected) and direct
light.
For more details, please refer to the national safety regulations regarding
exposure to ultraviolet light.
Exposure to UV-C light may cause irritation to the skin and eyes. The
symptoms typically appear after 6-8 hours. In this case, contact your doctor
for treatment.

Temperature
The Surface temperature of the UV lamp installed in the UV BARx1 may rise
to above 100ºC when operating the UV BARx1 for a length of time. Be aware
that the UV lamp housing of the UV BARx1 as well as metal surfaces near the
lamp could be warm. Take precautions and be careful to avoid burns.
Electrical voltage
The supply voltage for the UV lamps is 230VAC.
When installing the UV lamp, be sure to place the connection cables in a
secure position so that the insulation around the cables cannot be damaged.
Warnings regarding voltage
Service and repair must only be performed by a certified electrician.
Disconnect the power cord from the wall plug before servicing the UV
BARx1.
Signs

Disposal
Products marked with the crossed-out wheel bin are electrical and electronic
equipment (WEEE) and shall not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste
when discarded because it contains hazardous substances that present
adverse effects on the environment and human health. Instead users are
required to return waste from WEEE to the return and collection systems
that are available to them.
Please watch the Safety Instruction & User Guide video
It is important that you watch and understand our video guide. We will teach
the operator step by step how to use the UV BARx1 correctly and safely.
Please follow this link:

or scan the QR code.
Please be aware that UV deactivation of virus and bacteria’s is an optical treatment.
Only surfaces in the direct line of sight will be treated and receive a disinfection.
Shadow areas like e.g. backside of keyboards or other covered areas need to be prevented.
Please turn the keyboard for example and irradiate the back side.

Clothing and safety for the use of UV BARx1
1. Safety equipment for the operator
The clothing and safety equipment needs to protect all body areas of the user from the UV-C
irradiation. To do this all body areas need to be fully covered.
a. The eyes must be completely protected. Users should wear appropriate
Personal Protective Equipment (a visor) providing protection against
UV-C radiation. Usual protective goggles are insufficient as protection.
b. Hands must be protected by light proof gloves.
Verify that all skin areas are covered by the gloves or by the sleeves.
c. Skin must be covered and protected with light proof clothes.
Also, remember to cover your neck.
d. Shoes must be worn. Sandals or bare feet are not allowed. Also, here all
skin must be covered.
2. Safe and proper use
a. Make sure that all humans within a distance of 10 m from UV BARx1, the source of UV-C
radiation, are equipped with suitable protection of eyes and all skin.
b. Visually check the UV BARx1 housing for damages and the correct
mounting of the UV lamp inside the socket. In case of any damage on
the UV lamp exchange it before use.
c. Do never hold the UV BARx1 in direction of any living object and treat it
with UV-C radiation.
