1Installing Android and Linux from SD card
SD 600eval board can be flashed using micro SD card. There is single SD installer image available to
install Android or Linux on SD 600eval Board. Following topics describes SD Card installation process
in elaborated manner.
1.1 Installation overview
To flash Android or Linux on SD 600eval board from the SD card, perform following steps:
Step 1. Download a SD card installer image
Step 2. Copy the SD card installer image on a SD-card
Step 3. Boot the board from the SD-card
Step 4. Flash desired OS using GUI
Step 5. Reboot and enjoy !
SD card installer image for SD_600eval is present in “SD_600eval-sd_card_android-
linux_install.tar.xz” archive.
1.1.1 Step1: Download the SD card installer image

•Extract the archive once downloaded
1.1.2 Step 2: Copy the SD card installer image on a SD-card
On Windows:
•Download the Win32DiskImager tool from here
•Start the DiskImager tool with administrator rights
•Under Image file select the path to the a SD card installer image
•Under Device choose the drive letter under which the SD-card was detected
•Click Write -> This will write the image onto the micro SD-card

On Linux:
Execute the following commands:
cd SD_600eval-sd_card_android-linux_install
sudo dd if= SD-card-install-SD_600eval.img of=/dev/sxx bs=8M
sync
Where sxx is the device name
Warning: Do not override your hard drive. In most cases, sxx will be mmcblk0 or sdx where x
depends on the number of fixed disks in your system. User can determine the SD-cards device name
by using the following command:
sudo fdisk -l
Alternatively user can also use following command to determine the SD-card device name:
dmesg | tail
1.1.3 Step3: Boot the board from the SD-card
•Put the SD card into SD 600eval board
•Set the boot switches to 0100 (SD card boot) as shown in below figure

•Plug in HDMI monitor and Mouse to the board
•Plug in Power cable to the board -> the board will boot and user will able to see GUI of an
OS installer.
1.1.4 Step4: Flash desired OS using GUI
Once board is booted from SD card, following screen will appear. As there is two options of
supported Operating System, User can select the desired one. For example, to install Linux, click on
the first button having logo of a Linux.

Once desired OS button is clicked, Installer will start flashing the eMMC of SD 600eval with the
selected OS and it will take 3-4 mins to flash whole eMMC.
After completion of flashing process, it will show completion message and basic instructions to boot
the board from eMMC.
1.1.5 Step5: Reboot and enjoy!
Once the flashing of an OS is completed, follow these steps:
•Unplug the board from the power supply
•Remove the SD card from board
•Reset the boot switches back to 0000
•Connect the board to the power supply
After reboot user will see the startup of installed OS. In the case of Android, board will take 4 to 5
mins to get fully up because Android will optimize it’s applications at first boot.
