Preparing to Use your Great Basin Food Dehydrator
- All food should be washed, dried and prepared for dehydration per the suggestion below. Drying
prevents microbial growth, but not all food is created equal. DO NOT skip the preparation step. This
will also help prevent changes in color and texture of the dried food.
- Arrange food in trays in a way that allows air to circulate freely for optimal drying.
- All 5 sections should be on the drying base when your dehydrator is in use along with the upper lid.
- Be sure you plug the machine into a properly grounded dedicated outlet whose electrical output
matches the requirements of this machine and that you follow the safety instructions above.

USING YOUR GREAT BASIN FOOD DEHYDRATOR
- Unpack your Electro Boss Great Basin Food Dehydrator.
- Wash your trays and lids with warm water and soap. Wipe the base of the dehydrator with a dry or
damp cloth. Never submerse the base in water.
- Be sure you plug the machine into a properly grounded dedicated outlet whose electrical output
matches the requirements of this machine and that you follow the safety instructions above.
- Before first use, make sure to read these instructions carefully and in their entirety.
NOTE: You can change the position of the
trays if some items are drying better than
others. The trays closer to the drying
base will tend to dry faster.
- Duration of drying depends on many variables: temperature, moisture, thickness, humidity and air
temperature, personal preference and the ripeness of the food product. Drying times are a suggestion
and you may find that your personal preference will require foods to be dried longer or shorter than
recommended times.
Packaging and Storing your Dehydrated Products
- The number one goal of storing dried foods is to prevent moisture exposure. Store product in airtight
containers, glass jars and freezer bags. Always make sure the containers are clean and dry.
- Once packaged, store your dried food containers in a cool, dark place.
- Check dried foods after one week for moisture in the storage container. Moisture is a sign that the foods
were not dried long enough or the container is not air tight.

Drying Fruits
- Select ripe fruits.
- Wash fruits and remove pits.
- Fruits can be cut to your preference: sliced, halved, peeled, unpeeled. Fruits that are sliced
thin and peeled will dry the fastest.
- Small fruits that are left whole, such as blueberries or grapes, should be dipped in boiling
water for 30 seconds and then in an ice bath to crack the skin. This procedure will reduce
drying time.
- To prevent food discoloration in fruits before and after the drying process, there are many
pretreatment options to prevent this natural process. These are our recommendations:
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Available at drugstores. You can crush Vitamin C tablets
(500mg = 1 teaspoon). Mix 4 cups of water and 2.5 tablespoons of ascorbic acid
and soak cut fruits for 10 minutes.
Lemon/Pineapple Juice Mix equal parts of water and juice and soak cut fruits for
10 minutes.
Fruit Drying Guide (guidelines)
Before Storage
- Allow fruit to cool for 30-60 minutes before storing as mentioned on page 3.
- Drying time is all about personal taste. Be sure to taste your fruit before
storing to ensure that the moisture has been removed to your liking.
