Applications for theSx80 abound fromsound
systemsforsinglesor karaoke to stage

ARealCompressionDriverandHorn
TheSx80 has anEV DH2005 puretitanium
diaphragm,1.25inch-diameter compression
drivercoupled with a90ox65oConstant-
directivity horn.Unlikemostsmall speakers
that use dometweeters(somewith dispersion
controldevices), the compressiondriverand
90ox65oCD horn ensuresthatevery ear in its
coveragepatternwill be treatedto smooth,

8-INCH, 175-WATT TWO-WAY
SPEAKER SYSTEM
The Sx80 can be used as a wide-range,
high-performance, easily portable music system with
the addition of the EV Sb121 12-inch bass module or
Sb121a powered bass module.
Thanks to its molded-in attachment points and
available brackets, the Sx80 can be hung from a wall or
ceiling, stand mounted or used with OmniMount®
Series 75 hardware.

Ring-ModeDecoupling(RMDTM)
TheSx80is equipped withEV’s Ring-Mode
Decoupling(RMDTM)originally developed for
X-ArrayTM concertspeakers.RMDTM attackstime-
domainresonancesattheirsourcesin the Sx80’s
componentsandenclosure. These variousring
modesrobspeakersof fidelity andunpleasantly
degradethesound.
ThankstoRMDTM,the Sx80 sounds supremely
cleanandaccuratewithpristine reproduction of
voicesandinstruments. It alsomaintainseven
soundquality overawide dynamicrangethanks
toRMDTM.
High Power Handling
TheSx80can handle 175-watts continuous,
700-wattsshortterm for 8 hoursaccordingto
EIARS-426A1980 test procedures. Othersmall
speakerswith high powerratings typically use a
lightbulb to absorbpower for protectionwhen
theirmaximum output levelis approached. The
lightbulbacts like acompressor and causes the
soundqualityto changerelativeto input power.
TheSx80usesexcellentcomponentqualityto
achieveits highpowercapabilityandturns
amplifier powerintoacousticenergy, notlight.
Toprotectitselffromthenegativeeffectsof
amplifierclipping or overload, the Sx80is
equippedwith EV’s provenPROTM circuit.The
PROTM circuitmonitorstheinput level and only
activateswhenit is needed,preservingthe
qualityanddynamicintegrity of thesound.The
high 92dB (1W/1m) sensitivityand good power
handlinginsuresthat the Sx80 hasseriousoutput
capability.

enclosureis rugged enoughtosurvive the rigors
oftransportationandthetortures of installation
outdoorsin all kinds of weather.Molded into the
enclosureareinserts that allowtheSx80 to be
usedwitha variety ofoptional bracketsand
mounts,including a wall/ceilingbracket,a
13/8-inch pole mount and OmniMount®
Series75. Sx80s are available in blackor white
(Sx80W)andare easily paintable tomeetdecor-
consciousapplications.
