1. Unpacking and maintenance
Your speaker should be treated with the same care
you would treat a piece of furniture. Use a piece of
soft cloth and a small quantity of warm soapy water
to clean the loudspeakers. Avoid touching the cone
of the bass unit or treble dome since this may leave a
finger mark or damage the dome and spoil its
performance. After unpacking, we suggest you
retain all packing material for future transports.
2. Break-in
As with all high-quality loudspeaker systems, the
musical performance of your Electrocompaniet
loudspeakers will improve over an initial break-in
period.
Please allow your new speakers to play about 50
hours of music at normal listening level before doing
any critical listening or playing at loud level.
3. Stability
Be aware to try to place the speakers as stable as
possible on the floor or shelf with no loose contact.
Some floor standing models are delivered with
spikes or feet. This improves the sound at the same
time as the sound does not propagate through the
floor. This is especially good for you who lives in an
apartment and do not want to disturb your
neighbours.
4. Room positioning
The performance of a loudspeaker in a room varies
with placement. ldeal positioning of the speakers is
3-4 meters apart and preferable at least 0.5-1 meters
away from side and rear walls. Avoid distances from
walls that correspond to1/2, 1/4,1/6 etc. of the room
dimensions.Seek instead odd fractions:1/3, 1/5,1/7
etc.to minimize effects of room related resonances.
You will perceive the most accurate sound
picture if you listen from a position halfway
between the loudspeakers, and three to four meters
away. Avoid corner placement as it leads to
colouration and an over-emphasise of the
lower frequencies. Image stability and stereo
perception is increased if the two speakers are
turned slightly towards the listening position.
Try this out and listen for best stereo image
and centre focus. Objects in the direct sound
path can disturb the coherence of the sound
picture. Try out different positions before
deciding the final arrangement.

5. Connections
We recommend the use of heavy gauge loudspeaker
cables of high quality. Make sure to turn off all
amplifiers before connecting your new speaker to
your Hi-Fi system. Connect the cable from the
amplifier to the speakers terminal. Use the mar king
of the cables to en-sure that the red or “+” mark of
the amplifier to the speakers terminal, also marked
with red.
6. Bi-Wiring
If you whish to take advantage of the biwire feature
on your speakers do the following. The upper
connection is connected to tweeter/midrange and the
lower is connected to the woofers. It requires two
cables for each speaker to use bi-wire. First of all,
make sure to turn off your amplifier. Start with
removing the gold-plated connection between the
upper and lower connectors of the terminal. Connect
one cable from the upper connections on the terminal
to the binding post on the amplifier. Bi-wiring can
made an audible improvement and better details in
the music. Choose a cable with good bass quality as
the lower cable and a cable with much detail for the
upper cable.
7. Power handling
The power rating figure of a loudspeaker is a very
imprecise figure. Since the energy in the music
signal varies, neither peak nor average value
is relevant. A“Max Power” of 200 W says only that
the speaker can play 200 W at maximum. It does
not mean that you can turn the volume all the way
up on a 200 W amplifier and expect clear sound
and healthy speakers.
The greatest danger to a loudspeaker is distorted
signal. Distortion in the low frequency range
produces overtones in the entire spectrum, with an
energy that can easily damage the tweeter units. And
since a more powerful amplifier can play louder
without distortion, we have the paradox that it is
greater risk to damage speakers by playing loud with
a smaller amplifier.

Warning!
If you hear distortion (bad quality) when you
increase the volume this is normally a sign of
overloading the amplifier and you should
immediately reduce the output level.
Use of loudness, bass or treble boost increases the
risk of harmful distortion from the amplifier. We
recommend that you use these controls with care.
You may also harm your ears if listening to
distorted signal at high volume.

8. Service
Should your Electrocompaniet loudspeaker
system require service, or if you have
difficulty in achieving the fine performance
of which your Electrocompaniet loudspeaker
system is capable, consult the
Electrocompaniet dealer from whom the
system was purchased, Your dealer has the
knowledge required the provide expert advice
and assistance, in case the Electrocompaniet
dealer is unable to assist you, you are
welcome to contact us by mail or telephone.
9. Warranty
This Electrocompaniet loudspeaker is warranted to
the original purchaser, against factory defect in
material or workmanship, for a period of 2 years
from the date of original purchase, to the original
purchaser and is non-transferable or as national law
requires. Electrocompaniet loudspeakers are music
listening devices and should be used for listening
purpose only. They must not be connected to any
other equipment than which they are intended to.
Electrocompaniet cannot be held responsible for
damage or injuries caused by improper use, or use in
violation with the Recommendations in this leaflet.
10.
General technical description.
The Electrocompaniet Prelude PSF-1 loudspeaker is
a 21/2 ways floor standing bass reflex construction,
with double 6,5 inch woofers and 1 inch tweeter.
The cabinet is made of MDF with double sandwich
side panels and four internal strutting to ensure
minimum resonances. Total thickness of side panels
is 24 mm. Front and rear panels made of 18 mm
MDF.
The woofers have solid magnet structure with a long
throw design to ensure well controlled and tight bass
reproduction even at relatively high SPL. Speaker
cones made of selected coated paper in order to give
maximum musicality and a smooth frequency
response.
As tweeter we use a 25 mm silk dome with ventilated
magnet system and damped rear chamber to ensure
minimum compression and good musical properties.
All units are custom made for Electrocompaniet in
order to med our high requirements regarding sound
quality.
In order to ensure a coherent and wide soundstage
from the speaker, the x-over is carefully phase
optimised, where the drivers have the same absolute
acoustic phase at the x-over frequency between
midrange and tweeter without any inverted phase of
drive units. The x-over is made of low loss inductors
and polycarbonate capacitors.
Technical specification:
Frequency response: 46-20000 Hz +/- 2.5 dB free field condition.
Impedance: 4 ohms
Sensitivity: 89 dB/m at 2.83v
Power handling: 120/200Watt
X.over frequency: 500Hz 6dB and 2300Hz 12dB/18 dB
Bass tuning frequency: 38 Hz
