1 Introduction: -
Thi manual contain all of the information required for the u e and operation of the EMS
Sy tem 5000. Thi manual i al o written in a format that pre ume that the y tem ha
been correctly in talled and commi ioned. When u ing the y tem it i important to
follow thi u er manual at all time . Any que tion on the y tem hould be put to the
In taller/Maintainer.
1.1 Procedure:
In accordance with BS5839 Part 1:2002, written procedure mu t be e tabli hed in
dealing with alarm for: -
Fire, Fault Warning and the Di ablement of any part of the Sy tem.
A re pon ible per on hould be appointed who en ure that all u er are in tructed in
the proper u e of the y tem and are familiar with all a ociated procedure . The
nominated per on hall al o be re pon ible for liai ing with the maintenance company,
on all matter relating to the maintenance of the y tem. One of the a ociated
procedure i to maintain an up to date logbook.
The logbook hould include properly recorded event including all real and fal e alarm .
Al o any te ting or even temporary di ablement hould be noted. Infact, any event
affecting the y tem hould be recorded. It hould alway be kept in a afe place near
the y tem, only with acce by authori ed per onnel. A ample logbook heet i
di played in Section 11.
1. Warnings and Cautions:
The e in truction contain the procedure to follow in order to operate the Sy tem 5000
control panel correctly. It i a umed that the u er ha been uitably trained and i
familiar with the relevant regulation .
All equipment i to be operated in accordance with the appropriate tandard applicable.
The material and in truction covered in thi manual have been carefully checked for
accuracy and are pre umed to be correct. However the manufacturer a ume no
re pon ibility for inaccuracie and re erve the right to modify and revi e thi document
without notice.
User Control Levels:
Sy tem 5000 ha three different acce level . They are Level 1, 2 & 3.
At U er Level 1, all of the di play are completely functional, however the panel’ control
button and menu acce feature are inhibited.
At U er Level 2, (Standard u er acce level via control key witch); all panel control are
functional and the control panel’ menu i acce ible. The requirement of the Engineer
PIN at the Engineer Config Menu, allow acce to Level 3.
At U er Level 3, all the panel’ control are functional and the control panel’ menu i
fully acce ible making full y tem configuration po ible. U er Level 3 i reached by
entering the Engineer PIN from Level 2. (Engineer Config Menu). U er Level 3 i
intended for u e by the Sy tem In taller/Maintenance Contractor.

3 User Passwords:
It i po ible for the y tem to be programmed to allow a PIN number rather than the
control key witch to change from Acce Level 1 to Level 2.
The y tem i not programmed, a tandard with thi feature a the control key witch i
normally u ed, however up to 99 U er PINS can be a igned/changed at U er Level 3 by
the In taller/Maintenance Contractor if required.
4 Controls and Displays: -
4.1 Controls Layout:
The Sy tem 5000 control panel provide tatu information via the Di play, Zone Lamp
and Statu Lamp . The di play and control of the panel’ function i achieved through
two control panel ection . Figure 1, how the di play area which include Fire Zone
Lamp , the Di play it elf and the “∆” and “∇” Scroll Button .

6 Control Keyswitch:
The Control Key witch ha three different po ition . They are “OFF”, “ON” and
ISOLATED”.
Each of their function are explained on the following page: -
6.1 OFF (Normal) Position Functionality: (Access Level 1)
With the control key witch in the “OFF” po ition,
the panel i at Acce Level 1. The key i
removable in thi po ition and it i recommended
that the panel i left in thi po ition with the
key removed. The following control option are

6. ON Position Functionality: (Access Level )
The Control Panel require the control key witch
turned to the “ON” Po ition, enabling Acce Level 2: -

6.3 ISOLATED Position Functionality:
The Control Panel require the control key witch turned to the
ISOLATED po ition. Acce Level 2 i acce ible with the ame
Feature a detailed previou ly and all control button are operational.
Plant Shutdown equipment can be di abled through thi function a a
pre elected Sounder Group can be di abled. Thi i normally u ed for
i olating Plant Equipment whil t carrying out weekly te t . However,
thi i a programmable feature and can be configured by the in taller/
maintenance contractor if required.

(A) Options:
FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
Passwords Contain 7 ub menu . Thi allow the option to change,
edit and delete PIN number if u ed.
Time and Date Give the option to et and view the Time and Date.
Logging Enable you to view the entire log of event , (up to 1000
event ), or to view the log at a certain date.
Fire System Options Allow acce to (B) Fire Sy tem.
(B) Fire System:
FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
Dev. Disable/Test Thi option enable an individual device that form part
of the fire y tem to be Di abled, Activated or put into
Te t. The tatu lamp will illuminate/extingui h a
appropriate.
Net. Disable/Test Thi option enable the u er to control individual device
that are logged onto other control panel’ on the
Networked Fire Sy tem. Such a a moke detector or call
point to be changed from their normal active tatu , to
be di abled or put into te t.
Det Zone Dis/Test Thi option allow the Detection Zone to be viewed and
altered. The zone can be either Active, Te t or Di able. If
any zone on the y tem are di abled or in te t mode the
relevant LED Indicator will light to indicate thi .
Alarm Zone Disable Thi option allow the di ablement of group of ounder
within the y tem. The Alarm Zone can be either Enabled
or Di abled. If Di abled the relevant LED indicator will
illuminate.
ARE Disable Thi option allow connection to the Fire Brigade via the
Brigade Relay to be di abled. Therefore any ub equent
fire activation’ will not operate thi relay. The panel
operation, although unaffected, will di play the text
“ARE/BRIGADE DISABLED” to en ure the y tem i not
left in thi mode.
System Mode Thi option allow enablement of up to eight different
y tem mode of operation. The e are pre-programmed
and can be changed if required by the
In taller/Maintenance Contractor.
Engineers Config Thi option when entered prompt for a PIN number to be
entered to Allow acce to Level 3. Thi menu i for
In taller/Maintenance Contractor u e only.
Printer Options Thi option allow the Printer, when fitted, to be both
“Enabled” and “Di abled”. When “Enabled” and the
option i et to ALL, every Event i printed out. Thi
option can al o be et to FIRE, which will then only print
Fire Event .

8 Alphanumeric Display Indicators: -
There are two different type of Di play . There i the Vacuum Fluore cent Di play (VFD)
type, which di play up to 80 character , on a 4-line di play. Thi i tandard for 24 and
96 zone model .
A Liquid Cry tal Di play (LCD) type, i al o available and i tandard for 12 and 4 zone
model .
There are different type of condition that are hown on the di play, to uit different

8. Fire (Networked Device):
When a device on a Networked Control Panel ha activated a Fire Alarm, the following
alarm creen will be hown: -

8. 5 Pre-Alarm:
When a Pre-Alarm event occur the text on the di play change to how: -

8.4 Fault : MN:
In the in tance of a y tem main failure, the controller will witch into battery afe
mode. Thi will turn the di play completely off, and the “Power” LED will extingui h.
Pre ing any key on the panel will re-activate the di play and the following fault creen
will be hown: -
FAULT MN repre ent the controller ha had a main failure.
The “CIE Fault” LED will al o illuminate when the above creen i di played.
8.45 Fault : BT:
Thi fault can be di played for a number of rea on . There maybe no batterie pre ent in
the unit. Secondly the batterie may not be charging. Thirdly the battery voltage may be
low. The battery not charging and low voltage reading would be di played after the
daily check at midday. The fault would be di played immediately when batterie are not
pre ent. For any of the e in tance the following creen would be di played: -
8.5 Fault : PR:
Whenever the control panel’ internal proce or i re et, (including initial power up), the
following fault creen will be hown: -

8.55 Fault : RI:
Radio ignal level can vary due to the urrounding local environment. The following
creen how that the controller i receiving unknown radio ignal above an acceptable
level: -

8.6 Fault : OL:
Thi fault how that a controller i currently Off Line on either a Hardwired or radio
networked y tem. Thi indicate the Control Panel i no longer communicating with the
Network Sy tem. If thi ha taken place the following fault creen will be hown:-

9 Step by Step Guidance:
9.1 Weekly Test Recommendations.
A manual call point hould be te ted on the y tem each week. It i recommended that
the te t be carried out at the ame time each week with any poor audibility in tance
reported.
A different manual call point hould be te ted each week to en ure that all call point are
te ted over time.
The re ult of the te t and the call point u ed hould be recorded in the logbook. If the
y tem i connected to an alarm receiving centre they hould be informed before and
after the te t and the fire alarm ignal confirmed.
Carrying Out the Test.
If applicable contact the alarm receiving centre to inform them that a
te t i about to be carried out.
Turn the key on the control panel to the ISOLATED po ition.
Wait 15 econd .

Activate a manual call point by in erting the te t key.
Fire alarm with text and zonal indication will now be di played on the
control panel along with ounder operation.
Wait for 30 econd .
30 econd
Pre the ilence alarm button. (The time period hown i an average
time and maybe reduced if required, dependant on the ize of the
y tem).
SILENCE
ALARMS
Pre the Re et alarm button to re et the fire alarm event.
RESET/ LED
TEST
The di play hould return to normal. The key hould be returned to the
OFF po ition and removed from the control panel.
If applicable contact the alarm receiving centre and confirm that the
te t ha been completed and verify ignal received.
The te t i now complete and the logbook hould now be updated.

9. Setting the Time and Date: -
To change the time and date, turn the control key witch into the “ON” po ition. Now
pre the “0” Key. Pre the “∇” button once until “> Time and Date <”. I di played.
Pre the “YES” key and you will enter the “| ** Date/Time **|” Menu.
To et the time, pre the “YES” key again, and enter the time in 24hr, hh:mm format.
Then pre the “YES” key to confirm. Pre the “NO” key twice to return to the main
di play.
To enter the date, (from the Date/Time Menu), pre the “∇” button twice until
highlighting “>Set the Date <” then pre the “YES” key. Now enter the date in
dd:mm:yy format and then pre the “YES” key to confirm. Once confirmed, pre the
“NO” key twice to return to the main di play.
NOTE: On Multi-panel y tem , it i only nece ary to alter the time and date on the
Ma ter Panel and thi will automatically pa the information to other panel’ on the
y tem.
9.3 Enabling/Disabling Devices:
To Enable/Di able a device from the main creen:
With the control key witch in the “ON” Po ition, pre the “0” key, then croll down to
la t option, “Fire Sy tem Option ”.
Pre the “YES” key. Now, whil t highlighting the “>Dev. Di able/Te t<” option, pre
the “YES” key again.
Now pre the “0” key and enter the de ired device number and pre the “YES” key.

Note: If an event i di played the Fire Sy tem Menu i immediately acce ed by turning
the Key into the “ON” Po ition and pre ing the “0” Key.
Then pre the “∇” button to highlight “>Statu i :Active <”, and croll through the
different tatu type by pre ing the “YES” key until de ired option ha been found,
then pre the “NO” key three time , to return to the main di play.
Whil t a device i di abled, the “DETECTOR/ZONE DISABLED” LED Indicator will
illuminate. When the device are enabled the LED Indicator will extingui h, unle any
detection zone are di abled.
9.4 Enabling/Disabling Zones:
To Enable/Di able a zone from the main creen:
With the control key witch in the “ON” po ition, pre the “0” key, then croll down, by
pre ing the “∇” button to la t option, “>Fire Sy tem Option <”.
Pre the “YES” key. Now, pre the “∇” button until highlighting “>Det Zone Di /Te t<”.

9.5 Enabling/Disabling Brigade Relay:
To Enable or Di able the Brigade Relay turn the control key witch to the “ON” Po ition
and Pre the “0” key. Scroll down to the bottom of the Option Menu u ing the “∇”
button, until highlighting “>Fire Sy tem Option <”. Pre the “YES” key. Pre the “∇”
button until highlighting the “>ARE Di able <” option. Pre the “YES” key. Then pre
the “YES” key again to change from “ENABLED” TO “DISABLED” alternately.
Then having selected the desired option, press the “NO” key three times to return to the main display.
9.6 Printer Options: -
To enter the Printer option from the main di play, put the control key witch into the
“ON” po ition. Pre the “0” key. Now u ing the “∇” button, croll down to the la t
option, “>Fire Sy tem Option <”. Now pre the “YES” key. Then croll down, pre ing
the “∇” button to the la t option, “>Print Option <”. Now, pre the “YES” key.
Now having reached the “Print Option ”, pre the “YES” key to turn the Printer “ON” or
“OFF”. Whil t the printer i et to “ON”, pre the “∇” button, then pre the “YES” key
to change the print event between “FIRE” or “ALL”.
Thi depend on whether the printer i required to print All event or ju t any Fire
Event . Once uitably configured, pre the “NO” key three time to return to the main
di play.

9.7 Viewing the Event Log:
Turn the control key witch to the “ON” po ition and pre “0” key. The creen will now
di play:
Pre the ∇ key twice until the creen di play “ >Logging< ”. Pre the “YES” key and
the creen will change to highlight “ >View Log At Date< ”. Now pre the “YES” key and
the creen will now di play:
Enter the required date to view in dd/mm/yy Format, (e.g.28/05/03) then pre the Ye
key and the creen will now di play:
By pre ing the, ∆ and ∇ croll button , the log for the date elected can be viewed. All
fire and fault event are li ted in date and time order. Pre ing the “5” key will take you
to the olde t event, whil t pre ing the “8” key will take you to the mo t recent event.
When fini hed, pre the “NO” key three time until the creen return to the main
di play. Turn the control key witch to the off Po ition and the creen will now indicate
that the Statu i Normal.
