• Switchable Analog Soft-Limiting and true 48 Volt Phantom Power on both
analog inputs
• Record and Playback support for a multitude of sample rates: 44.1k, 48k,
88.2k, 96k, 176.4k, 192 k (176.4k &192 k available on PC version only).

The minimum computer system requirements for the E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 are

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
Windows XP
Follow these instructions to install the 0404 USB 2.0 software and E-MU
Production Tools software bundle on a Windows XP computer.
Connect the 0404 USB 2.0
1. First connect the 0404 USB 2.0 to your computer using the supplied USB
cable, and turn it on. Connect the 5VDC Adapter as shown on page 13.
2. If Windows prompts you with an Add New Hardware Wizard, click Cancel.
3. Insert the 0404 USB 2.0 Software/Manual Installation CD-ROM into your
CD-ROM drive. If Windows AutoPlay mode is enabled for your CD-ROM
drive, the CD starts running automatically. If not, from your Windows
desktop, click Start->Run and type d:\setup.exe (replace d:\ with the drive
letter of your CD-ROM drive). You can also simply open the CD and double-
click Setup.exe.
4. The installation splash screen appears. Follow the instructions on the screen.
You will have the option to install:
• E-MU USB Audio
• Adobe Reader
5. Choose “Continue Anyway” when you encounter the “Windows Logo
Testing” warning screen. See the note below.
6. When prompted, restart your computer.
7. Be sure to register your 0404 USB 2.0 so we can advise you of future software
updates and special offers. You can register online at: www.emu.com/register
8. Your 0404 USB 2.0 is now ready to use.
Install the Production Tools Bundle
9. Insert the Windows Production Tools Software Bundle CD-ROM into your
CD-ROM drive.
10. The installation splash screen appears. Follow the instructions on the screen
to complete the installation.
Note About Windows Logo Testing
When you install the 0404 USB 2.0 drivers, you will see a dialog box that informs
you that the driver has not passed Windows Logo testing.
However, the 0404 USB 2.0 drivers have been rigorously tested using the same test
procedures that a signed driver requires, and it passes in all important categories,
including those that measure the relative stability of the driver. So, it is perfectly
safe to install these drivers on your computer.

Uninstalling all Audio Drivers and Applications
At times you may need to uninstall or reinstall the 0404 USB 2.0 application and
device drivers to correct problems, change configurations, or upgrade outdated
drivers or applications. Before you begin, close the E-MU USB 2.0 Audio control
application. Applications running during the uninstallation will not be removed.
1. Click Start -> Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. Click the Install/Uninstall tab (or Change or Remove Programs button).
4. Select the E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 entry and then click the Change/Remove
button.
5. In the InstallShield Wizard dialog box, select the Remove ALL option.
6. Click the Yes button.
7. Restart your computer when prompted.
You may now re-install existing or updated E-MU device drivers or applications.

Macintosh OS X
Follow these instructions to install the 0404 USB 2.0 drivers and software on a
Macintosh OS X computer. First, connect the 0404 USB 2.0 to your computer as
shown on page 13.
Install the 0404 USB 2.0 Software
1. Insert the E-MU Software/Manual CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click on the E-MU icon on the desktop.
3. Double-click on the Install icon to start the installation.
4. The installation Welcome screen appears. Follow the instructions on the
screen.
5. When the Authenticate dialog box appears, enter the administrator password
you chose when you installed OS X.
6. Continue to follow the instructions on the screen to continue the installation.
You will be given the option to install:
•Easy Install: Installs the following applications and drivers.
E-MU 0404 USB 2.0: USB Drivers and Control Application
•Custom Install: allows you to choose which components are installed.
7. Easy Install is recommended. The software will be quickly installed. When
prompted, restart your computer.
8. Be sure to register your 0404 USB 2.0 so we can advise you of future software
updates and special offers. You can register online at: www.emu.com/register
Setup the 0404 USB 2.0 as your Default Audio Device
9. Click Go -> Utilities from the menu bar.
10. Double-click Audio MIDI Setup. The window shown on the following page
appears.
11. Select the 0404 USB 2.0 for the following: Default Input,Default Output,
System Output,Properties For.
12. Play a song on iTunes to verify that the 0404 USB 2.0 USB 2.0 is the default
device for audio playback.

Install the Production Tools Software Bundle
13. Insert the Macintosh Production Tools CD into your CD-ROM drive.
14. Double-click on the installer package.
15. The installation splash screen appears. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Uninstalling the Audio Drivers and Applications
At times you may need to uninstall or reinstall the 0404 USB 2.0 application and
device drivers to correct problems, change configurations, or upgrade outdated
drivers or applications. Before you begin, close the E-MU USB 2.0 Audio control
panel application. Applications running during the uninstallation will not be

1. Open the Applications folder.
2. Open the Creative Professional folder.
3. Open the E-MU USB Audio folder.
4. Click the E-MU USB Audio Unistaller and follow the instructions.

INSTALLATION LOGICIELLE
Windows XP
Suivez ces instructions pour installer le logiciel de la 0404 USB 2.0 et les outils de
production d’E-MU sur un PC Windows XP.
1. Reliez la 0404 USB 2.0 à votre ordinateur en utilisant le câble USB fourni, puis
mettez-le sous tension. Connectez l’adaptateur 5 Vcc (voir page 23).
2. Si l'assistant d'ajout de nouveau périphérique de Windows apparaît, cliquez
sur Cancel.
3. Insérez le CD-ROM d’installation du logiciel de la 0404 USB 2.0 dans le
lecteur. Si le mode de lecture automatique de Windows est activé pour le
lecteur de CD-ROM, le CD se lance automatiquement. Sinon, dans le bureau,
cliquez sur Démarrer->Exécuter et tapez d:\setup.exe (remplacez d:\ par la
lettre de votre lecteur de CD-ROM). Vous pouvez ouvrir le CD et double-
cliquer sur le fichier Setup.exe.
4. L’écran de lancement de l’installation apparaît. Suivez les instructions à
l’écran pour terminer l’installation. Vous pouvez installer :
• E-MU USB Audio
• Adobe Reader
5. Sélectionnez “Continue Anyway” lorsque le message de test Logo s’affiche.
Voir la remarque ci-dessous.
6. Lorsque l’écran vous le demande, relancez l’ordinateur.
7. Assurez-vous d’enregistrer votre 0404 USB 2.0 afin que nous puissions vous
informer des nouvelles mises à jour et de nos offres spéciales. Vous pouvez
vous enregistrer en ligne à : www.emu.com/register
8. Vous pouvez maintenant utiliser votre 0404 USB 2.0.
Installation du Bundle d’outils de production
9. Insérez le CD Windows Production Tools Software Bundle dans le lecteur de
CD-ROM.
10. L’écran de lancement de l’installation apparaît. Suivez les instructions à
l’écran pour terminer l’installation.

Lorsque vous installez les Drivers 0404 USB 2.0, une boîte de dialogue vous
informe que le Driver n’a pas passé le test de la norme Windows.
Cependant, les Drivers 0404 USB 2.0 ont été rigoureusement testés avec les mêmes
procédures de test qu’un Driver conforme à la signature. Il répond aux catégories
les plus importantes, notamment celles mesurant la stabilité du Driver. Ces Drivers

sont parfaitement stables et vous pouvez les installer sans crainte sur votre
ordinateur.
Désinstallation de toutes les applications et de tous les Drivers audio
Vous pourrez être amené à désinstaller ou réinstaller l’application et les pilotes de
périphérique de la 0404 USB 2.0 afin de corriger des problèmes, de modifier des
configurations ou de mettre à niveau des pilotes ou des applications obsolètes.
Avant de commencer, fermez l’application de contrôle E-MU USB 2.0. Les applica-
tions qui tournent lors de la désinstallation ne seront pas supprimées.
1. Cliquez sur Démarrer -> Panneau de configuration.
2. Double-cliquez sur l’icône Ajout/Suppression de programmes.
3. Cliquez sur l’onglet Installer/Désinstaller (ou sur le bouton Modifier/
Supprimer des programmes).
4. Sélectionnez l’interface E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 puis cliquez sur Modifier/
Supprimer.
5. Dans la boîte de dialogue InstallShield Wizard, sélectionnez l’option
Supprimer.
6. Cliquez sur Oui.
7. Lorsque vous y êtes invité, redémarrez votre ordinateur.
Vous pouvez maintenant réinstaller les pilotes de périphérique ou les applications
E-MU existants ou mis à jour.
Macintosh OS X
Suivez ces instructions pour installer les pilotes et le logiciel de la 0404 USB 2.0 sur
un Macintosh OS X. Commencez par relier la 0404 USB 2.0 à votre ordinateur
(voir page 23).
Installation du logiciel de la 0404 USB 2.0
1. Insérez le CD-ROM d’installation du logiciel E-MU dans le lecteur.
2. Double-cliquez sur l’icône E-MU sur le bureau.
3. Double-cliquez sur l’icône Install pour commencer l’installation.
