1. Introduction
Congratulationswithyourpurchaseofthis Programmable LAN
Surge protector.YourEG-PMS-WLANisan advanced surge protector
withpowermanagementfeatures.Foursocketsareindividually
manageablevia the LANinterface.
The socketscan be switched on/off byatimerschedule,byuseror
differentevents.It isalsopossibletopre-programtheuniteventtimer
schedule(hardwareschedule)and then disconnectEG-PMS-WLANfrom
WLANand useitelsewhere.The devicecan be used asan advanced
standby-killer.
Withyourfree personaluseraccount atEnerGenie.comyou can
manage yourEG-PMS-WLANvia the Internetfromalloverthe world,
even fromyourSmartphone.
1.1.Features

3. Installation
•Itisstronglyrecommended toavoiddamporwetplacesfor
installation.
•EG-PMS-WLANshouldbe connected tothe European ACwall
socket of the standardDIN49 440.
3.1.Gettingstarted
•ConnectEG-PMS-WLANtothewall socketfirstand then totheLAN
socket(oryourcomputerLANcard)withthe provided patchcordor
vice-versa.
•EG-PMS-WLANcan nowbe switched on and off bymeansofthe
Main rockerswitch(Z).
•Two(the firstand the last)socketsofEG-PMS-WLANaremarked
withthe symbol . Thesetwosocketsareswitched on and off
bymeansofthe Main rockerswitch(Z) and cannotbemanaged by
the computer–sotheyarecalled non-manageable sockets inthis
manual.
•IfEG-PMS-WLANisswitched on then the redindicator POWER islit.
Inthiscasebothnon-manageablesocketsarenow live and
connected tothe powersupply.

•The sockets:Socket1,Socket2,Socket3and Socket4can be
managed orpre-programmedbycomputervia LAN.Theyarecalled
manageable sockets inthismanual.
•The manageablesocketsof EG-PMS-WLANcanbe programmed to
be on oroff. The currentstatusofeachmanageablesocketis
represented bythe corresponding indicatorwhichwillbe litifsocket
haspowertoit.
•Ifthe Main rockerswitch (Z)(Figure#1)isturned off then the
manageablesocketscannotbeswitched on byeitherweb server,
Powermanager softwareorthe hardwareschedule.
•Assoon asyou turnthe Main rockerswitch(Z) onthen the web
server, Powermanager softwareorthe hardwareschedulewill be
abletoturnthe manageablesocketson and off.
•Masterswitchbutton(B) (Figure#2)can alsoswitchall the
manageablesocketson and off regardless oftheircurrentstatusor
schedulethat isbeingexecuted.Toswitchthemon you shouldkeep
the button pressed for1-2seconds.Toswitchthemoff you should
keep the button pressed formorethan 3seconds.
•Toprotectthe connected devicesfrompossiblehighcurrentand
shortcircuitEG-PMS-WLANisequipped withthe automaticcircuit
breaker.
•NOTE: Ifthe totalpowerconsumption (orpeakpower) ofthe
devices,connected toEG-PMS-WLANexceeds2200 Watts,the
circuitbreakermaypowerEG-PMS-WLANoff. Inthiscase,please,

removetheexcessiveloadfirstandthen press the Circuitbreaker
button torestorethepowersupply(Figure#3).

3.2. Power Manager software installation
Forinitialconfiguring EG-PMS-WLANit needstocarryout the
following:
•Insert the PowerManagerCD intoaPCCD-ROMdrive.
•If foranyreason the automaticsetup doesnotwork,then open CD-
ROMdriveinthe My Computer windowand launchSETUP.EXE
fromthe CD
•Followinstructionsofthe installationsoftware
3.3. InitialWLANconfiguration
Whenthe softwarehasbeen installed, WLANConfig utilitywillbe
started. ItconfiguresEG-PMS-WLANforconnectiontothe existing
WLANnetwork.
Please, powerEG-PMS-WLANon and connectwithUSB cableto
the computer.Utilityshallchange statusto“Deviceisfound”(Figure#4).
You willneed toknowthe parametersofyourWLANnetwork:
network name(SSID),authentication type,password(Network key),
and, incaseofWEPnetwork, keyindex.The network shallwork in
infrastructuremode,i.e.containatleast one Access Point,towhichEG-
PMS-WLANwillbeconnected.Input theseparametersinto
corresponding fieldsinthe utilitywindow, then press“Configure”button.

Wait untilprogress barendsup (Figure#5).If you see pop-up
message “Deviceisconfigured successfullyand connected toAccess
Point”statusitmeansthat connection tothe Access Point was
successfuland nowit’stimetoconfigurelocal network settings. Select
“Yes”inthe pop-up message totry finding EG-PMS-WLANinthe
network automaticallybyutility.

Nowdisconnect USB cablefromEG-PMS-WLAN. Lateryou willbe
abletochange the WLANsettingsviaEG-PMS-WLANweb interface,
aftersetting up IPconfiguration.

3.4. IPconfiguration
Ifthe local network hasDHCPserver(whichisverycommon)then
EG-PMS-WLANwillautomaticallyget an IPaddress fromthe DHCP
serverjust somesecondsafterWLANconfiguration iscompleted.Then
the devicewillbe found LANFind utilityand accessibleviait’sweb
interface.
Ifno DHCPserver,otherscenarioshallbe used foraccessing the
EG-PMS-WLAN. Atfirst, you willneed tomakeprocedureof IP
configuration reset (itisdescribed inthe end of the section)toobtain
fixed address 192.168.0.254. And you willneed toset temporary IPin
the range 192.168.0.1…192.168.0.253 tocomputerLANinterface.As
result, the EG-PMS-WLANweb serverwill be accessibleviaany
browseron the address 192.168.0.254, and you willbeabletochange
it’sIPand otherlocal network settings.
The utility LANFind (Figure#6)willrun automaticallyafter
successfulconfiguration with WLANConfig utility.It can alsobe started
from Start/All Programs/Gembird/PowerManager.The IPrange where
you wouldliketosearchforEG-PMS-WLANwillbe setautomatically
according tothe IPsettingsof yourLANadaptersbut can be changed
manuallyinthe Adaptersubnet fields. Nowpressthe Search button.

NOTE: onlyEG-PMS-WLANwithinalocal subnet can be found. If
yourcomputerLANadapterisnotinthe (default)subnet ofEG-PMS-
WLAN,you willhavetochange itsIPaddressmanuallytobe abletofind
EG-PMS-WLAN.Forexampleif you wishtofind EG-PMS-WLAN(with
the defaultIP192.168.0.254),the IPaddress ofyourcomputershouldbe
set as192.168.0.XXX (where XXX standsforanydigit, forexample1)
and the subnet maskshouldbe 255.255.255.0.
Afterthe searching the IPaddressesofthe found EG-PMS-WLAN
deviceswillappearinthe list box. SelectEG-PMS-WLANwhichyou want
toaccess, and pressthe Open button (Figure#6).
IPconfiguration reset procedure:
•Press Reset button on theside controlpanel(Figure#2)withthe tip
ofapen andwaitforabout3secondsuntilyou hearthe sockets
switching
The above-mentioned procedureforcesEG-PMS-WLANtoreset
itself tothe default settings(see below):
•IP: 192.168.0.254
•Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
•Gateway: 192.168.0.1
•DNS:0.0.0.0

•DHCP: enabled
•IPfiltering:disabled
•PowerManagerclientport:5000
...EG-PMS-WLANthen searchesforan IPaddress fromyour
eventual DHCPserver.If no DHCPserverisfound within1minute, EG-
PMS-WLANwillthen automaticallyrevert tothe default settings(see
above, withIP: 192.168.0.254).
