Safety Instructions
Read and follow these instructions to ensure safe use of this printer. Make sure you keep this manual for future
reference. Also, be sure to follow all warnings and instructions marked on the printer.
❏Some of the symbols used on your printer are to ensure safety and proper use of the printer. Visit the following
Web site to learn the meaning of the symbols.

❏Use only the power cord supplied with the printer and do not use the cord with any other equipment. Use of
other cords with this printer or the use of the supplied power cord with other equipment may result in re or
electric shock.
❏Use only the type of power source indicated on the AC adapter's label, and always supply power directly from a
standard domestic electrical outlet with the AC power cord that meets the relevant local safety standards.
❏Never disassemble, modify, or attempt to repair the AC adapter, power cord, printer, and options by yourself
except as specically explained in the printer's guides. Doing so may result in injury, electric shock, or re.
❏Unplug the printer and the AC adapter, and refer servicing to qualied service personnel under the following
conditions:
e power cord or plug is damaged; liquid has entered the printer or the AC adapter; the printer or the AC
adapter has been dropped or the casing damaged; the printer or the AC adapter does not operate normally or
exhibits a distinct change in performance. Do not adjust controls that are not covered by the operating
instructions.
❏Place the AC adapter near a wall outlet where the plug can be easily unplugged.
❏Do not place or store the printer and the AC adapter outdoors, near excessive dirt or dust, water, heat sources,
or in locations subject to shocks, vibrations, high temperature or humidity.
❏Do not leave the printer in direct sunlight, near heaters, inside cars or other locations that are subject to high
temperatures. e printer may be deformed or ink may leak.
❏Take care not to spill liquid on the printer and the AC adapter, and not to handle the printer and the AC adapter
with wet hands.
❏e AC adapter model A461H is designed for use with the printer with which it was included. Do not attempt
to use it with other electronic devices unless specied.
❏Keep the printer at least 22 cm away from cardiac pacemakers. Radio waves from this printer may adversely
aect the operation of cardiac pacemakers.
❏If the LCD screen is damaged, contact your dealer. If the liquid crystal solution gets on your hands, wash them
thoroughly with soap and water. If the liquid crystal solution gets into your eyes, ush them immediately with
water. If discomfort or vision problems remain aer a thorough ushing, see a doctor immediately.
❏If you use the printer in places where the use of electronic devices is limited, such as in airplanes or hospitals,
follow all instructions in those places.
❏Be careful when you handle used ink cartridges, as there may be some ink around the ink supply port.
❏If ink gets on your skin, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.
❏If ink gets into your eyes, ush them immediately with water. If discomfort or vision problems continue aer
a thorough ushing, see a doctor immediately.
❏If ink gets into your mouth, see a doctor right away.

❏Do not disassemble the ink cartridge and the maintenance box; otherwise ink may get into your eyes or on your
skin.
❏Do not shake ink cartridges too vigorously and do not drop them. Also, be careful not to squeeze them or tear
their labels. Doing so may cause ink leakage.
❏Keep ink cartridges and maintenance box out of the reach of children.
Safety Instructions for the Battery
e external battery described below is an optional battery.
❏Use an Epson Li-ion battery model C12C934941 for this printer according to the directions in the user
documentation. Do not use the battery with non-rechargeable batteries (primary cell batteries) or with
rechargeable batteries (secondary cell batteries) of dierent capacities or types. Use of batteries not designed for
this printer can cause excessive discharging during use, and an excessive current to ow during charging. As a
result, the battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not place the printer or external battery in a microwave oven or a high-pressure container. Otherwise, the
battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not drop or throw the printer, external battery, or subject it to strong shocks. Otherwise, the battery could
leak or the protection circuit in the battery could be damaged. As a result, the battery could become hot, emit
smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not use or leave the printer or external battery in a hot location such as near a re or a heater. No more than
80 °C for the printer and no more than 50 °C for the external battery. Otherwise, the plastic separator could
melt and the individual cells could short-circuit. As a result, the battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture,
or catch re.
❏Do not leave the printer or external battery in a vehicle. Otherwise, the battery could overheat.
❏Do not expose the printer or external battery to high humidity.
❏Do not handle the battery with wet hands or use it in locations near water. If the battery gets wet or is immersed
in water, an excessive current will ow during charging. As a result, the battery could become hot, emit smoke,
rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not incinerate or heat the printer or external battery. Otherwise, the battery could become hot, emit smoke,
rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not allow the external battery to come into contact with metals objects, such as coins and keys. Do not carry
or store the external battery with metal objects. Otherwise, the external battery could short-circuit. As a result,
the external battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not touch the external battery terminals.
❏If overheating, discoloration, or deformation occur, remove the external battery from the printer and do not use
it.
❏Do not connect the external battery to an electrical outlet or to an automobile cigarette lighter receptacle. High
voltage to the external battery will cause an excessive current to ow. As a result, the external battery could
become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not short-circuit the external battery.
❏Do not remove the outside case of the external battery to protect against short circuits.
❏Do not puncture, strike, or step on the external battery. If the external battery is broken or deformed, it could
short-circuit. As a result, the external battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not insert objects into any openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-circuit
components.

❏Do not solder any item directly to the external battery. Otherwise, the insulator could melt, or the gas vent or
the safety function could be damaged. As a result, the external battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture,
or catch re.
❏If a external battery is swallowed, seek medical treatment immediately.
❏Do not disassemble or modify the external battery. To prevent accidents, the external battery is equipped with a
safety function and protection circuit. If the safety function or protection circuit is damaged, the external
battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not use the printer or external battery if it is leaking or damaged in any way. Otherwise, the battery could
become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏If liquid leaks from the printer or external battery (or if the printer or external battery gives o a bad odor),
immediately move the printer or external battery away from any ammable objects. Otherwise, electrolytes that
leak from the battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏If external battery acid gets in your eyes, immediately rinse your eyes thoroughly with fresh water without
rubbing them. And then, see a doctor immediately. Otherwise, permanent eye damage could result.
❏If external battery acid gets on your skin, immediately rinse the aected area thoroughly with water. And then,
see a doctor immediately.
❏Use only AC adapter model A461H to charge the battery and operate the printer.
❏Do not charge or use the printer or external battery with devices other than the specied product. Otherwise,
the performance and life of the battery could decrease. In addition, the battery or device could be damaged and
cause an abnormal current to ow. As a result, the battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, catch re, or
explode.
❏Use the specied charger and observe the charging requirements. Otherwise, the printer or external battery
could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not charge the printer or external battery near an open ame or in very hot locations. If the protection
circuit in the battery is activated, you will not be able to charge the battery. If the protection circuit is damaged,
the battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏If the printer or external battery is not fully charged within the specied time, stop charging. Otherwise, the
printer or external battery could become hot, emit smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏e external battery has polarity. Do not forcefully connect the external battery to the charger or product even if
the external battery cannot be connected easily. Be sure to conrm the polarity of the external battery when
connecting it. Do not reverse the polarity of the external battery connections (terminals). If the external battery
is connected incorrectly during charging, the external battery will be reverse-charged and an abnormal
chemical reaction could occur in the external battery. As a result, the external battery could become hot, emit
smoke, rupture, or catch re.
❏Do not reverse the polarity of the external battery connections (terminals). If the external battery is connected

Advisories and Warnings for Setting Up/Using the Printer
❏Do not block or cover the vents and openings in the printer.
❏Avoid using outlets on the same circuit as photocopiers or air control systems that regularly switch on and o.
❏Avoid electrical outlets controlled by wall switches or automatic timers.
❏Keep the entire computer system away from potential sources of electromagnetic interference, such as
loudspeakers or the base units of cordless telephones.
❏e power-supply cords should be placed to avoid abrasions, cuts, fraying, crimping, and kinking. Do not place
objects on top of the power-supply cords and do not allow the AC adapter or power-supply cords to be stepped
on or run over. Be particularly careful to keep all the power-supply cords straight at the ends and the points
