The Fundamentals
How Does the BrightLink™Interactive
Projector Work?
The BrightLink™Interactive Projector works with or without a computer to make
just about any surface an interactive learning space.
The BrightLink™ Interactive Projector offers a variety of interactive options. You
can use the available interactive modes to open and close applications, write
notes in digital ink, conference with others, create new documents or edit existing
ones, visit websites, play and manipulate video clips, and more.
Using the Easy Interactive Tools software with your BrightLink™will give you
additional options such as annotating in digital ink using an interactive pen or a
finger and then saving these notes for future reference and distribution.
When you install the external Touch Unit you will have the ability to use your
finger to perform the same functions as the interactive pens.
Dual Pen User/Multi-touch
Two users can write or draw on the interactive surface using the interactive pens
at the same time, and the BrightLink provides touch-based interactivity for up to
six users at the same time.

1. Go to http://www.epson.com/cgi-
bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=248009&prodoid=63098425&inf
oType=Downloads&platform=All
2. The website will attempt to detect your
operating system automatically.
3. Select Easy Interactive Tools v3.05 from the
utilities.
4. Select Download.
5. Fill in all of the required information on the
next screen and select Download Now.
6. You will get a message about the WinZip
Self-Extractor. Select OK.
7. When the next window appears at the bottom of your screen select Run.

8. Follow the on-screen prompts, selecting Next after you have filled out any
required information.
9. You can choose to Register to Startup and add
a shortcut to your desktop. Select Install.
10. The next pop-up will appear after a successful
installation. Select Finish.
Note: You can also install Easy Interactive Tools by inserting the included CD-
ROM into your computer and following the installation prompts.

How Does the BrightLink™ 595 Wi
Interactive Projector Work?
Connections
The BrightLink™ projects an image on a flat, smooth, rigid surface such as a
whiteboard. You can connect to a computer and have the image on the
computer displayed on the board by the BrightLink using a USB and a VGA or
HDMI cable. The included interactive pens will allow you and your students to
write, draw, and use the mouse function. Installing the BrightLink Touch Unit,
which works using a built-in, high-power laser, will provide touch interactivity.
Connect a USB cable from the USB-B port on the projector to a USB port
on your computer. This will allow you to send video and audio output from
the computer and will also allow you to use the interactive pens.
Connect a VGA cable for video by connecting the cable to the VGA port on
your computer and to the Computer VGA port on the BrightLink.
Connect an HDMI cable for video and audio by connecting the cable to
your computer’s HDMI output port and to an HDMI port on the BrightLink.

Getting Started
The BrightLink™ interactive projector is very easy to use! Simply turn on the
projector, interactive pens, and computer and the system is ready to go.
To turn on the BrightLink™ projector:
1. Select the Power button located on the remote control or the bottom of the
projector. The Power button will be solid blue once the projector is
completely powered on.

How Does the BrightLink™ Interactive
Projector Work?
Interactive Modes: PC Free and PC Interactive
The BrightLink™ interactive projector turns any flat surface into an interactive
whiteboard, either with or without a computer. There are two Interactive Modes:
PC Interactive Mode and PC Free Mode.
PC Free Mode
In PC Free Mode, you can use the pens or your finger to write or draw on the
projection surface simultaneously without connecting a computer. This lets you
annotate images from a document camera, iPad, DVD player, or other source.
PC Free Mode does not allow any printing or saving.
PC Interactive Mode
In PC Interactive Mode, you can select and open computer applications from the
BrightLink and then navigate them using an interactive pen or a finger, just as
you would with a mouse at your computer. Annotations can be made over any
application and can then be saved for later use.
To enable PC Interactive Mode:
1. Connect the projector to your computer using a USB cable.
2. Turn on the BrightLink and project
your computer screen.
3. Press the Menu button on the remote
control, select the Extended menu,
and press the Enter button.

4. Select the USB Type B setting and press the Enter button.
5. Select one of the following:
-Easy Interactive Function to use PC Interactive Mode.
-USB Display/Easy Interactive Function to use PC Interactive Mode and
USB Display.
6. Select the Easy Interactive Function setting and press the Enter button.
7. Select one of the following as the Pen Operation Mode depending on the
operating system you are using:
-Mode 1: Windows XP or earlier
-Mode 2: Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
-Mode 3: Linux
8. Press the Enter button on the remote control, then press the Menu button
to exit the Extended menu.

To choose a mode:
1. Hover near or tap on the board or the projected image with the interactive
pen or your finger. The icon will now be displayed on the screen.
2. Select the icon, then select the icon. You can now operate the
computer using the interactive pens or your finger.

Interactive Pen
The BrightLink™ 595Wi interactive projector comes with one blue and one
orange battery operated interactive pen. The pens can be used individually or at
the same time to write using Easy Interactive Tools.
To install batteries in an interactive pen:
1. Open the battery cover.
2. Insert one AA battery.

3. Replace the battery cover, pressing down until it clicks.
To turn on an interactive pen:
1. Tap the pen tip or press the power/function button.
2. The battery light will flash briefly, then turn off. If it continues to flash, the
battery is low.
3. The pen will turn off automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity. Tap the
pen tip or press the power/function button to turn it back on.

When working with an interactive pen:
1. Hold the pen perpendicular to the interactive surface.
Avoid holding the pen too close to the tip
by keeping your fingers behind the black
section of the pen.

Projector Work?
Interactive Pen Calibration
Before you begin using the BrightLink™ interactive projector, you will need to
perform a calibration to coordinate the position of the interactive pen with the
location of the cursor. You only need to perform the calibration the first time you
use the interactive features of the projector. The calibration results will remain
until you calibrate again. Make sure that you calibrate the interactive pen before
you perform the finger touch calibration. Perform the calibrations again if you
notice positioning discrepancies after performing a Keystone correction, adjusting
the image size, using the Image Shift feature, or moving the projector.
Manual Calibration –Interactive Pen
1. Press the Menu button, select the Extended menu, and press Enter.
2. Select the Easy Interactive Function setting and press Enter.
3. Select Manual Calibration and press Enter.

4. Adjust the image focus if necessary.
5. Press Enter to select Yes. A flashing green circle will appear in the upper
left corner of your projected image.
6. Touch the center of the circle with the tip of the pen. The circle will
disappear and you will see another circle appear below the first one.
7. Touch the center of the next circle, then repeat. When you get to the
bottom of a column, the next circle will appear at the top of a new column.
8. Continue until all of the circles disappear.
NOTE: Make sure you touch the center of each circle for the most accurate
calibration.
