Afteryou’veactivatedyourOmnipointaccount,oneofthefirstcalls
youmakeshouldbetopersonalizeyourAnsweringMachine. Allcalls
toyourAnsweringMachinewillbechargedattheOff-Peakrate.
Here’showtosetupyourAnsweringMachine:
•Dial ,thenpress toplaceyour
call.
•Listenandfolloweachrecordedinstructiontocreateyour
passwordandtorecordyournameandyourpersonal

tomakeacall.
>Battery Bar: Batterypowerstatus. A“full”batterybar
meansfullcharge;an“empty”batterybarmeansbatterymust
berecharged.
>Message Area: Displayscommands,prompts,andtext
messagesasyouuseyourhandset. Alsodisplaysthenetwork
youareusing,phonenumbersasyoudialthem,andthetime
elapsedduringyourcall.
>Time: Displaysthecurrenttimeinstandard(AM/PM)or24-
hourformat(forexample,9:00AMis0900;9:00PMis2100).
Alsodisplaysthealarmtimewhenyousetthehandsetalarm.
>Envelope Symbol: Indicatesthatyourhandsethasreceived
amessage. Themessagesymbolflashesifyourtextmessage
storagecapacityisfull.

>Ifyourhandsetisoff,press (onCF337,pressPWR)and
holduntilyouhearaclick. Thedisplaywilllightup. Inafew
seconds,“OMNIPOINT”willbedisplayed.
>DialtheNumber,justasyouwouldfromyourhomephone.
•Ifit’sinthesameareacodeasyourOmnipointnumber,
enterthe7-digitnumber.
•Ifyou’recallingtoanotherareacode,dial ,the3-digit
areacode,andthenumber.
•Forinternationalcalls,dial ,plusthe
countrycode,andthenumberyou’redialing,including
areacode.
>Asyoudial,thenumberyou’redialingwillappearonyour
display. Ifyoumakeanerrorwhiledialing,press onceto

givesyouabout 125minutesof continuoustalktime –orup to
20hoursof standbytime.
Thefirstfewtimesyouchargeanewbattery,letitchargefully. When
youuseyourhandset,letthebatterydischargecompletelybefore
rechargingitagain.

InsideyourOmnipoint handset,there’san ingeniousand
intelligentcomponent:the SIM(SubscriberIdentity Module)
Card.
YourSIMCardhasacomputerchipthatcanstoredigital
information,includingyourpersonalPhoneBook,textmessages,and
theinformationyourhandsetneedstooperate.
(Note:keepallSIMCardsoutofreachofsmallchildren.)
TheSIMCardispre-loadedinthecardholderonthebackofyour
handset,beneaththerechargeablebattery. IfyourSIMCardis
missingfromyourhandsetorhasbeeninsertedimproperly,you’llsee
themessage“InsertCard”onyourdisplay. Thehandsetwillnot
functionwhentheSIMCardisremoved(exceptfor911calls).
Inmostcases,youneverhavetotouchyourSIMCard. Butyoucan
removeyourSIMCardifnecessary–forexample,touseinanother
handsetortoloanyourhandsettosomeoneforusewiththeircard.

>First,switchyourhandsetoffbypressingthe keyand
holdingituntilyouhearaclick.
>Removeyourbattery (seep.15).
>ReleasetheSIMCardholderbyslidingittowardthetopofthe
handset.

WithyourOmnipointservice,therearethreetypesoftextmessages
youmightreceive.
1. Voice Message Notifications,whicharesenttoyour
handsetwhenavoicemessagehasbeenleftonyourAnswering
Machine.
2. Numeric Pages,whichyoucanreadonyourhandset
displayandcontaincall-backnumbersornumericalcodes.
3. Short E-Mail Messages,whichyoucanreadonyour
handsetdisplayandcontainupto160charactersoftext.

Whenyoureceiveamessage,here’swhathappens.
1. Your Handset Notifies You. Atonewillautomatically
soundtoalertyouthatamessagehascomeinandyou’llsee
theword“Message”andtheprompt“Read?”onyourdisplay.
2. You Can Read It Immediately. Pressthe ,andyour
messagewillbedisplayed. (Forfurtherinstructions,see
“ReadingMessages”below.)
3. You Can Read It Later. Press ,andyourmessagewill
