1.1 Meaning of symbols
As used throughout this manual: Means Attention! Be Alert!
DANGER!
Means immediate hazards which, if not avoided, will result in immediate,
serious personal injury or loss of life.
WARNING!
Means potential hazards which could result in personal injury or loss of
life.
CAUTION!
Means hazards which could result in minor personal injury.
WARNING!
Before use, read and understand the instruction manual
and follow all labels, employer´s safety practices and Safety
Data Sheets (SDSs).
1.2 Safety precautions
WARNING!
Failing to follow these instructions may result in risk of fire, electric shock or
personal injury.
• Only charge the correct type of rechargeable battery to reduce the risk of
explosion, personal injury or other damages.
• Do not open the charger. Any repairs should be done by the
manufacturer or authorized service personnel.
• Do not attempt to take the unit apart, this action voids the warranty. Do
not disassemble the unit when it is plugged into the mains electric supply
to avoid the risk of electric shock or fire.
• Do not use the charger if it is visibly damaged.
Users of ESAB equipment have the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that anyone who
works on or near the equipment observes all the relevant safety precautions. Safety
precautions must meet the requirements that apply to this type of equipment. The following
recommendations should be observed in addition to the standard regulations that apply to
the workplace.
All work must be carried out by trained personnel well-acquainted with the operation of the
equipment. Incorrect operation of the equipment may lead to hazardous situations which can
result in injury to the operator and damage to the equipment.

1. Anyone who uses the equipment must be familiar with:
○ its operation
○ location of emergency stops
○ its function
○ relevant safety precautions
○ welding and cutting or other applicable operation of the equipment
2. The operator must ensure that:
○ no unauthorised person is stationed within the working area of the equipment
when it is started up
○ no-one is unprotected when the arc is struck or work is started with the
equipment
3. The workplace must:
○ be suitable for the purpose
○ be free from drafts
4. Personal safety equipment:
○ Always wear recommended personal safety equipment, such as safety glasses,
flame-proof clothing, safety gloves
○ Do not wear loose-fitting items, such as scarves, bracelets, rings, etc., which
could become trapped or cause burns
5. General precautions:
○ Make sure the return cable is connected securely
○ Work on high voltage equipment may only be carried out by a qualified
electrician
○ Appropriate fire extinguishing equipment must be clearly marked and close at
hand
○ Lubrication and maintenance must not be carried out on the equipment during
operation
NOTE!
Dispose of electronic equipment at the recycling
facility!
In observance of European Directive 2012/19/EC on Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment and its implementation
in accordance with national law, electrical and/or electronic
equipment that has reached the end of its life must be
disposed of at a recycling facility.
As the person responsible for the equipment, it is your
responsibility to obtain information on approved collection
stations.

2.1 Application
The PRSL particle filter protects against the majority of particles: hard particles,
fluid-aerosols, bacteria, viruses and enzymes. When used to filter radioactive dust,
microorganisms and enzymes, the PRSL particle filter should be disposed of after use.
2.2 Storage
Store the PRSL particle filters in a dry, clean area, between 0°C and +40°C (32–104°F)
with relative humidity less than 75%RH.
Protect the particle filter from dust, particles and other contamination when stored.
2.3 Product life
The lifecycle of the PRSL particle filter depends on the conditions of the work area and the
concentrations of particles in the air, as well as the length of operating time.
NOTE!
Never use second-hand particle filters. Never attempt to clean a particle filter.
2.4 Usage
Do not use the ESAB PAPR System with PRSL particle filter in confined spaces lacking
ventilation.
Do not use the ESAB Air respiratory system in areas were explosions might occur.
The oxygen level in the working area must be a minimum of 19.5% and the temperature
must be between 0–40°C (32–104°F).
The composition of the fumes generated during the welding process must be known.
Before usage it should be ascertained whether the ESAB particle filter offers suitable
protection from the hazard.
Particle filters cannot be used to filter organic fumes and vapors. For such purpose, a
combination filter must be used.
The PRSL particle filter must be used with an ESAB Air blower unit. Use only original,
sealed particle filters produced by Universal PPE and Welding Accessories Limited. Do not
use PRSL particle filters with damaged sealing gasket or any visible damage to the casing.
The ESAB Air blower unit sounds the alarm for 4 seconds after power-on. If the alarm
sounds during operation, leave the working area immediately and get into a
non-contaminated environment.
Warranty replacement claims will be approved only if the unit has been regularly cleaned,
inspected and the PRSL particle filter replaced at least every 2 weeks.
2.5 Remove and replace the particle filter
To remove the particle filter, unclip the particle filter cover and pull off the particle filter with a
slight twisting action.
To replace the particle filter, check it for any damage, place the particle filter over the air inlet
cover and push the particle filter onto the seal of the blower unit. Close the particle filter
cover.

2.8 Troubleshooting
• If the alarm sounds more than 4 seconds after power-on, check if the hose has no
blockage. If there is no blockage, recharge or replace the battery.
• In the event of the ESAB Air blower alarm sounding, leave the working area
immediately and inspect the unit in a non-contaminated working place.
• Remove the PRSL particle filter while the ESAB Air blower unit is powered on, to
determine if the blockage of the particle filter is causing the alarm to sound. If the alarm
still sounds recharge or replace the battery.
• Inspect the blower unit and make sure that the PRSL particle filter is sealed. Only then
insert the new particle filter into the blower unit.
