IMPORTANCE ON SAFETY
1. APPLICATION
ESS HVP-2100 Video Center has been designed to provide image processing and light for use
with the ESS Veterinary Video Endoscopy System of endoscopes, as well as for rigid
endoscopes and Olympus® brand flexible fiberoptic endoscopes (NOTE: requires additional
camera head, coupler, eyepiece adapter and light guide in the case of rigid endoscopes –not
included/sold separately).
Do not use the instrument for any purpose other than this application.
2. SAFETY
Before using, thoroughly review this manual. Use it as instructed. Safety items are all
explained in Chapter 1.
Moreover, the safety items of the operation are marked [ Warning]
3. CAUTION
Cautions relating to body injury are marked [ Warning]. Use the instrument according to
the correct order after reading carefully and comprehending the cautions.
Warning
Improper operation is very dangerous. Patient, operator or
person(s) close to the instrument may be injured.
Operate this system after reading and comprehending this
manual carefully.
Moreover, cautions relating to equipment damage are marked [ Caution].
4. CLINICAL OPERATION
The instrument should only be operated by physicians who have received training and
specialized guidance. The manual does not include clinical operation technique.
5. CHECK BEFORE USING
For optimal operation, please check your instrument(s) before using as instructed in chapter 3
and chapter 4.
6. USE WITH OTHER EQUIPMENT
Sometimes the HVP-2100 is used with ancillary equipment. In order to avoid accidental shock
when using other ancillary equipment (such as a monitor etc.), please use a grounded socket
for each device. A hospital-grade, surge suppressing electrical outlet strip will further protect
your equipment.

7. HIGH VOLTAGE
Some parts inside the unit use high voltage. Do not remove any covers, screws, etc. other
than the serviceable areas indicated in this manual. Failure to comply could result in serious
injury or death as a result of electric shock.
8. CONTAMINANTS/LIQUIDS
If hairs, dirt, fluids, or other contaminants flow into the HVP-2100, fire and/or current shock
could happen. In case of fluids entering the unit, please remove the plug from the socket
immediately and contact ESS, Inc. or your ESS, Inc. Representative.
9. WARNING
Never close monitor with anything on top of the HVP-2100 video system - this could cause
damage to the LCD display.

10.CARE
The HVP-2100 will wear from long time use. Do inspect it periodically. Even if little
abnormalities are found, please be alert and inspect it carefully. Do not disassemble or alter
the unit in any way. If there is a problem, please contact the ESS Service Department at

FOREWORD
This instruction manual is for the use and care of the ESS HVP-2100 & HVP-2100L All-In-One
veterinary video system. Regarding the use and care of the ESS veterinary video endoscopes
and other auxiliary equipment, please refer to their own instructions.
Caution
The operator of this instrument is intended to be used by a physician or
under the supervision of a physician. This manual is for the HVP-2100
and HVP-2100L only.
ESS, Inc. is not liable for any damage or accident resulting from
improper use of the instrument or operation that does not follow the
instruction manual.
The after-sales services and repairs should be performed by ESS, Inc.
or an ESS, Inc. representative. PLEASE NOTE: We are not liable for
any injury or damage which occurs as a result of repairs attempted by
non-ESS, Inc. personnel.

CHAPTER 1 SAFETY
1-1 Notice Of Use
(1) Check Before Using
In order to avoid accidents while using and to maintain optimal performance, please
check the HVP-2100 prior to using as instructed
(2) Use With Other Equipment
Sometimes this instrument is used with ancillary equipment. In order to avoid current
shock accident when using other ancillary equipment than medical equipment like
monitor etc., please use special socket of the ancillary equipment to put through
electrical current.
(3) Care
The instrument will wear down after long time use. Do Inspect it periodically. Even if
little abnormity is found, please be alert and inspect it carefully. Do not to disassembly
and alter the instrument.
(4) Avoiding Electromagnetic Interference
Keep the Video Processor away from devices which generate
electromagnetic radiation (e.g. microwave, short wave, MRI or radio equipment).
Electromagnetic radiation can interfere with the image display.

Chapter 3 Instrument Installation
3-1 Preparation before Installation
Use other power supply voltage than instructed may cause fire, electric
shock. Please use the power supply of alternating current 220V .
Do plug into a medical receptacle (3-pin) for safety.
Do not use 3 pins-2 pins transform plug which may cause accident of electric
shock.
Avoid using the equipment near the flammable gas which may cause fire or
explosion.
Chapter 4 Operation Instruction
4-1 Inspection at Startup
Don’t use 3 pins-2 pins transform plug, it cannot insure safe for it may cause
accident of electric shock.
Use personal protective equipment to isolate deleterious chemicals and
potentially infectious material. During operation, wear appropriate protective
equipment, such as eye wear, mask, moisture-resistant clothing and
chemical-resistant gloves that your skin can avoid exposed in air and control
the risk of infection from blood, mucous and other potentially infectious
material.

4-2 Startup
Do not look directly to the light while the lamp is working, or intense light from
endoscope’s distal end and light output of light source may damage your
eyes.
Do not use 3 pins-2 pins transform plug by which may cause accident of
electric shock.
Chapter 5 Maintenance and Care
5-2 Daily Inspection
Do not repair the equipment by unqualified personnel to avoid damage to
people or to the Processor.
Any after service or repair should be conducted by qualified custom service
technician.
5-4 Lamp Replacement
Operating the equipment before lamp replacement may cause overheating
of the lamp. Do not replace the lamp instantly to avoid damage to hands.
Do not touch lamp while operating the equipment.
Always let the lamp cool down first.
Disconnect power cord from socket before replacing lamp.
Wear the exposure glasses and gloves to protect hands and artery when in
dire need of lamp replacement.
5-5 Fuse Replacement
Different fuses may cause fire, electric shock.
Do not use other fuse except the appointed rated fuse.
Replacing fuse when power cord is still in socket may result in electric
shock. Disconnect power cord from socket before replacing fuse.

4. AWB:
Press to adjust the White Balance automatically.
5. PARAMETER ADJUSTING/SELECT():
Select the parameter, including brightness, size of the window, contrast, language,
and color.
6. Main POWER
On: [Ⅰ], OFF: [○], the indicator illuminates when power on.

Select the parameter, including brightness, size of the window,

Press to start or stop air feed

Press to illuminate or turn off the lamp.

Slot for standard SD Memory Card for image and video capture save.

Switch between image capture and video capture functions; starts & stops video
playback.
13. VIEW:
Press to view images/videos saved on SD card.
14. CAPTURE:
Capture images/start & stop video recording (same as capture button on
endoscopes and optional rigid camera head.)
15. SIGNAL SOCKET:
CCD signal input, connect to endoscope.
16. LCD MONITOR:
Display image
17. LCD MONITOR CONTROLS/ADJUSTMENTS:
Controls to make adjustments to the LCD monitor itself.
NOTE: Monitor is pre-set by the factory to operate optimally with the
video endoscopes and optional endoscopy camera –DO NOT MAKE
CHANGES WITH THESE CONTROLS! Power to the monitor will be cut
when the Main POWER is turned off and/or monitor cable in the back is
removed.

CHAPTER 3 INSTRUMENT INSTALLATION
3-1 Preparation before Installation
Warning
Use of other power supply voltage than instructed may cause fire,
electric shock. Please use the power supply of alternating current
220V. Do plug into a medical receptacle (3-pin) for safety.
Do not use a 3-pin to 2-pin transform plug as this may increase the
the chance of an accidental electric shock.
Avoid using the equipment near flammable gas which may cause
fire or explosion
Caution
Place the equipment on a flat, stable surface.
①Place the instrument on a stable, level surface. If placed on a
suspended installation site, make sure it will not fall to the ground.
②Prevent the air vents from being obstructed to ensure necessary
ventilation
③Insert the power cord into power supply cord receptacle at the back
panel.
3-2 Endoscope Connection (Please refer to endoscope instructions.)
Caution
Insure the power switch is OFF before connection, otherwise it
may result in equipment damage or malfunction and the stored
data may be lost.
1. Plug the light guide connector of endoscope into the output socket of the HVP-2100
(refer to figure 2-1 HVP-2100 Front Panel), meanwhile make sure that both of light guide
pipe and air pipe are inserted into correct holes of the receptacle and that it fits firmly by
the endoscope light guide connector’s spring ring.
2. Plug one end of the endoscope signal connection cable into the signal input of the HVP-
2100, and the other to the corresponding connector of the endoscope.

3-3 Monitor Connection (Please refer to monitor instructions.)
Connect the video output of medical video center (refer to the figure 2-2)
to the video input of monitor with the offered video signal cable (image
can also be displayed on the flip-top LCD monitor on the HVP-2100.)
CHAPTER 4 OPERATION INSTRUCTION
4-1 Inspection At Startup
Warning
Do not use a 3-pin to 2-pin transform plug as this may increase
the chance of an accidental electric shock.
Use personal protective equipment to guard against cleaning
chemicals and potentially infectious material. During operation,
wear appropriate protective equipment, such as eye wear, mask,
moisture-resistant clothing and chemical-resistant gloves to
protect your skin from direct contact of fluids from blood,
mucous and other potentially infectious material.
Warning
Do not look directly to the light while the lamp is working. The
Intense light from endoscope’s distal end and light output of
the light source may damage your eyes.
Caution
Keep the equipment working for more than 30 minutes after the
lamp has started operating. Less than 30 minutes of working
time may slightly shorten the life of the lamp.
Restart only after the lamp has cooled down for more than 5
minutes, otherwise the lamp could be damaged.
Before each case, inspect the instrument as instructed below. Inspect all other equipment
to be used with the instrument as instructed in their respective instruction manuals.
Should the slightest irregularity be suspected, do not use the instrument and see
“Troubleshooting” (Appendix I). If the irregularity is still suspected after consulting
“Troubleshooting”, contact us. Damage or irregularity may compromise patient or user
safety and may result in more-severe equipment damage.

1. Inspection of Switch
When the Power Switch is turned ON “Ⅰ”, check the following to
confirm that power is actually being supplied to the equipment.
The green indicator of the power switch on the front panel is lit.
2. Inspection of Illumination
①Press the LAMP switch to confirm whether the lamp can be activated.
②Rotate the BRIGHTNESS control switch to confirm that the brightness can be changed
accordingly and the light is emitted from the Distal End of the endoscope.
③Press the PUMP switch to confirm that air is coming from the air pump.
3. Inspect the Image on the Monitor
When the Video Endoscope Processor is switched on, the start up
image appears on the monitor. After a few seconds, the image from the endoscope (or
optional rigid endoscopy camera) will appear on the monitor.
Confirm the endoscope image is normal by observing an object such as your hand. (if
connected with ancillary monitor, please check the image on the ancillary monitor)
4. Operation
The operator of this instrument must be a physician or medical
personnel under the supervision of a physician and must have received
sufficient training in clinical endoscopic technique. This manual,
therefore, does not explain or discuss clinical endoscopic procedures. It
only describes basic operation and precautions related to the operation
of this instrument.
4-2 Parameter Adjustment
1. White Balance Adjust
Point to a white background. (the image should be clear);
Press “AWB” to start up white balance (The parameter display screen shows “WHITE
BALANCING”); Do not move until the parameter display screen shows “BALANCE OK”.
The image color displayed on monitor should be accordant with the pointed white
background. White balance will be stored every time. Therefore, it always shows the
same color (the parameters haven’t been altered)
The white balance should be readjusted when the following conditions occur:
i. The lamp is replaced
ii. Using a different type of endoscope
2. Other Parameters Adjust:
Press the SELECT button for the first time, the LCD shows ‘BRIGHTNESS X’
(‘brightness value’), it indicates that the parameter of brightness has been selected, and
can be edited. Press the button again, activating the other parameters in turn. Thus, the

BRIGHTNESS brightness X (from 0 to 9)
WINDOW background light (SMALL-MEDIUM-LARGE) The size of the working
widow is calculated according to the white area in
the monitor, and its shutter can be altered.
ENHANCE contrast X (SOFT-MEDIUM-HIGH) The contrast of the
figure of the image
LANGUAGE display language X (English- Deutsch- Français) Alter the language
COLOR HUE color adjust X (from -19 to +19 ) Alter the level of color
“+”, “-”are used for adjusting the value of the selected parameter. If the parameter of
brightness is selected, the value of the brightness can be adjusted in the range from 0
to 9. The revised value can be stored automatically.
4-3 Image/Video Capture
1: Insert SD card, open video center HVP-2100, choose “CVBS” input .
2: Press “SHIFT” on the Front Panel, choose “video” OR “camera”

In “video” mode, press “CAPTURE” to take videos, press again to stop. Maximum video
capture time is 10 minutes –after which (without pressing the “CAPTURE” button) the system
will stop taking video and store the video.

3: After pressing “VIEW”, you can check images and videos by pressing “NEXT”
When you want play videos, please press ”PLAY”
CHAPTER 5 MAINTENANCE AND CARE
5-1 Clean after use
Caution
Clean the instrument according to the instructions.
Failure to properly clean the instrument, or to use cleaning
procedures not expressed in the manual, could cause
damage to the unit and operational failure.
Liquids flowing into the equipment may cause fault.
Do not splash water, disinfectant, etc. onto the equipment,
and do not force fluids/disinfectant with a soaked
washcloth, sponge, etc. into crevices, seams, vents or any
other possible opening that could seep inside the unit.
Clean dust and grime gently with a pledget or other soft cloth.
If the grime is serious and not easily wiped off, please use diluted litmus less detergent
(low pH/acidic) with 5-6 parts water to dampen pledget and clean gently.

5-2 Daily Inspection
The manufacturer suggests that the equipment should be inspected once each year by
a qualified customer service technician. Contact the ESS Service Department at 1 (845)

5-3 Cautions for Care
※Refer to startup before use after unit has been off for a long period of time.

Warning
Do not repair the equipment by unqualified personnel to avoid
personal injury or damage to the medical video center.
Service or repair should be conducted by a qualified
manufacturer service technician.
Caution
Store/use the HVP-2100 according to the following conditions:
Ambient Temperature -40℃~+55℃
Air Humidity 10%~95%
Air Pressure 500hPa~1060hPa
Location Avoid exposing under sunlight
Clean the unit as per the instructions of this manual.
To prevent equipment failure, do not bend, drag, skew and
extrude, etc. the cables included with this unit. Excessive force
could damage the cables and make the unit inoperable.

5-4 Fuse Replacement
Warning
For safety reasons, replace fuse with the appropriate
voltage/amperage recommended. Using a different fuse than
recommended may result in fire or electric shock.
Replacing the fuse while the unit is still on or while the power
cord is still plugged into a power source can cause electric shock.
Unplug the unit before replacing fuse.
①Turn the HVP-2100 off and unplug the power cord from the receptacle in back.
②Replace fuses as instructed in following figures (Fuse rating is T2AL250V)
a) Remove fuse holder by gently prying it out with a small, flathead screwdriver. Fuse
holder should slide straight out from its slot under the power cord receptacle (Fig A)
b) Replace the tubular
fuses in the fuse box with
the appropriate fuses.

c) Slide the fuse holder
back into the slot that it
was removed from in the
same way it was
removed earlier.
