HYDRAULIC RAM PACKAGE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
EST Group Hydraulic Ram Package consist of an Air Activated Hydraulic Pump, a High
Pressure Hydraulic Hose with quick connects, and a Hydraulic Ram. EST Group Ram Kits are
used for installation and removal of Pop-A-Plug Heat Exchanger Tube Plugs manufactured by
Curtiss-Wright EST Group.

System Safety Precautions
The user must read and thoroughly understand these installation
instructions before any work begins. The user should read and
thoroughly understand the installation procedures as supplied with
every kit of Pop-A-Plug’s. It is advisable to watch the P2 Installation
or CPI/PERMA Training Video to learn how to properly handle the
equipment. It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate
safety, health and training measures for their personnel using,
servicing or working in an area where this equipment is being used.
The user must be a qualified operator familiar with correct operation, maintenance, and use of hydraulic tools.
Lack of knowledge in any of these areas can lead to personal injury.
Wear proper eye protection to protect against ejected parts or other
projectiles. A face shield is acceptable.
Wear proper ear protection to protect against hearing loss or damage.
Possible Kickback and Parts Ejection Hazard. Keep body, head, face and
all extremities clear from rear of hydraulic ram during operation.
Tools and components listed in this instruction are designed for the sole
purpose of installing and removing P2 and CPI/PERMA plug heat exchanger tube plugs. The equipment is not
designed or intended to be used for other tasks.
Never leave the equipment unattended when connected to pneumatic pressure supply.
EST Group Ram Packages are not generally suited for coming in contact with electrical power sources.
EST Group Ram Packages shall not be used in an explosive atmosphere.
Unexpected tool movement or breakage of inserted tool could cause injury to personnel.
Unsuitable postures may not allow for proper counteracting of normal or unexpected movement of the tool
during operation.
Inspect equipment before each use to prevent unsafe conditions from developing. Do not use equipment if it is
damaged, altered or in poor condition.
Other than refilling / changing the hydraulic fluid, there are no serviceable parts in these assemblies. If any
equipment is damaged or faulty, contact EST Group for service or replacement.
These instructions are intended for the end-user or operator of this equipment. For additional information or
parts lists contact an EST Group facility listed below.
Should a hydraulic hose ever rupture, burst, or need to be disconnected, immediately shut off the pump and
release all pressure. Never attempt to grasp a leaking pressurized hose with your hands. The force of escaping
hydraulic fluid could cause serious injury.
Do not subject the hose to potential hazards such as fire, sharp surfaces, extreme heat or cold, or heavy impact.
Do not allow the hose to be altered or kinked, twisted, curled, crushed, cut, or bent so tightly that the fluid flow
within the hose is blocked or reduced. Periodically inspect the hose for wear since any of these conditions can
damage the hose and possibly result in personal injury.

Do not use the hose to move attached equipment. Stresses can damage the hose and possibly cause personal
injury.
Inspect all components for wear or damage prior to each use. Do not use any equipment that is not in proper
working order. If any equipment is damaged or faulty, contact EST Group for service or replacement.
Replace and worn or damaged safety decals
There are no user modifiable parts or components in the Hydraulic Ram Package.
Before replenishing the oil level, retract the system to prevent overfilling the pump reservoir. An overfill can
cause personal injury due to excess reservoir pressure created when the ram cylinder is retracted.
Shutoff and disconnect the air supply when the pump is not in use or before breaking any connections in the
system.
Keep all components of the system clean at all times.
Always use protective covers on disconnected quick couplers when not in use.
If the pump, ram, or hose have been exposed to rain, snow, sand, grit-laden air, or any corrosive environment,
they must be cleaned, lubricated, and protected immediately after exposure.

AIR SUPPLY
CONNECT
1. INSPECTION
Prior to use, all equipment must be inspected to ensure safe and reliable operation. Only qualified
operators should assemble, operate, and maintain this equipment.
1.1.Ensure the red shipping cap is removed from the pump reservoir and has been replaced with the
black vent plug.

Ensure there is sufficient hydraulic fluid in the reservoir. Add additional fluid as required. Check oil level prior to first
use of the day and at least after every 10 hours of use.
Follow the safety and handling instructions with regards to the hydraulic oil in accordance with the provided SDS.
1.2.Hose
Ensure the hose is free of cracks, kinks, or any visible damage. Inspect all threads and fittings for signs of wear or
damage. Clean the quick couplings, both sides, and ensure the mating components on the pump and ram are free of
dirt debris or foreign objects.
1.3.Ram
Visually inspect for cylinder damage, leaking fluid, and excessive wear or damage. Ensure the safety cables are
securely attached to the ram.
2. ASSEMBLY
Remove all thread protective caps. Connect the hose assembly to the
pump and ram. Ensure mating quick connects are fully engaged and
hand tight. All connections are to be tightened securely and leak-free but
do not overtighten.
WARNING
ENSURE HYDRAULIC HOSE QUICK CONNECTS
ARE FULLY ENGAGED AND TIGHTENED. FAILURE
TO CORRECTLY SEAT AND TIGHTEN HYDRAULIC
FITTINGS WILL CAUSE RAM PISTON TO LOCK IN
EXTENDED POSITION AFTER ACTIVATION.

Connect the air supply to the ¼” F-NPT port at the rear of the pump.
The air supply should be at least 20 CFM (.57 m³/min) and 100 PSIG
(7 BARG) to obtain the rated hydraulic pressure. Air pressure must
be regulated to no more than 120 PSIG (8.3 BARG) maximum.
2.1.Bleeding the system
With no load on the system, the Pump properly vented, and
positioned higher than the Ram, cycle the system several times.
Check the reservoir to ensure proper fluid level; fill as required.
3. TESTING
3.1.Test Ram/Pump set-up
To operate/verify Ram/Pump set-up, step on the end
of the pump pedal marked "PUMP" while
watching the Hydraulic Ram. Within a few seconds,
the Ram should begin to stroke. Note that the piston
strokes out of the back of the hydraulic Ram. If the
Ram does not stroke, check all connections, the oil
level and repeat this step.
Proper operation will be indicated by cylinder of the
ram extending 1” – 3” (25.4 to 76.2 mm) (model
dependent) followed by the pressurization indicated on
the gauge increasing to 7500 PSIG (517 BARG).
3.2.Release Pump pressure
While holding the Ram handle step on end of the
Pump Pedal marked "RELEASE". This will
allow the piston of the Ram to retract.
To remove the pneumatic power to the equipment,
disconnect the pneumatic quick connect.

4. OPERATION
Assemble the ram head with the pullrod assembly in accordance with DC1220, DC4000, or any special installation
instructions issued: Pop-A-Plug installation instructions. Follow Pop-A-Plug installation instructions.
DURING RAM OPERATION, THE SAFETY CABLE MUST ALWAYS
BE ATTACHED TO THE PULLROD.
NEVER LEAVE THE EQUIPMENT UNATTENDED WHILE
CONNECTED TO A PNEUMATIC PRESSURE SUPPLY.
NEVER DISCONNECT THE HOSE FROM THE RAM OR PUMP
WHEN THE EQUIPMENT IS PRESSURIZED.
Before each use, visually inspect for the following items:
1. Cracked or damaged ram cylinder
2. Excessive ware, bending, damage, or insufficient thread engagements
3. Leaking hydraulic fluid
4. Loose bolts or screws
5. Damaged or improperly assembled equipment
6. Modified, welded, or altered equipment
7. Bent or damaged couplers or port threads
If any of the above are observed, do not use the components. Contact EST Group for service or replacement.
If the pump is operated on a continuous duty cycle for extended period, installing an in-line filter and oil lubricator is
recommended. Use SAE grade 5W to 30W or equivalent.
5. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
The Ram system should be cleaned of all dirt and oils after ever use. Keeping the Ram Kit components wiped free of
debris before and after use will lessen the chances of foreign materials entering the hydraulic or pneumatic system
and extend the life of the equipment. Change hydraulic oil every 300 hours of use approximately; use Power-Team
AW Hydraulic Oil ISO-46.
5.1.Draining and Flushing the Reservoir
Wipe the pump exterior completely clean before attempting this procedure.
1. Remove the screws that fasten the pump assembly to the reservoir. Remove the pump assembly form
the reservoir. Do not damage the gasket, filter, or safety valve.
2. Drain the reservoir of all fluid and refill half full with clean hydraulic fluid. Rinse the filter clean.
3. Place the pump assembly back onto the reservoir and secure with two of the machine screws, use hole
locations in opposite corners of the housing.
4. Run the pump for several minutes. Reference the following section, “Priming the Pump”, for method.
5. Drain and clean the reservoir once more.

6. Refill the reservoir with hydraulic fluid and replace the pump assembly, with gasket, on the reservoir and
install the machine screws. Torque the screws 25 to 30 in-lbs. (2.8 to 3.4 N-m).
Important: drain and clean the other ram system components prior to reassembly. This
will prevent contaminated fluid from entering the pump again.
5.2.Priming the Pump
Under certain circumstances, it may be necessary to prime the pump unit. To accomplish this, perform the following:
1. Press the release end of the pedal while holding down the air intake valve with a flathead screwdriver.
The air intake valve is located directly under the pedal in the area marked . The valve is
depressed simultaneously with the area of the pedal sduring priming.
2. Allow the pump to cycle approximately 15 seconds.
3. Remove the screwdriver and press the end of the pedal once more.
4. If the cylinder extends or pressure builds, the pump has been successfully primed. If the pump does not
respond, repeat the procedure, jogging the air intake valve while holding the pedal in the position.
5.3.Periodic Cleaning
The greatest single cause of failure in hydraulic pumps is dirt. Keep the pump and attached equipment clean to
prevent foreign matter form entering the system.
A routine should be established to keep the ram, hose, and pump as free from dirt as possible. All unconnected
couplers must be protected.
5.4.Serviceable Parts
There are no serviceable parts on the Ram Package. Contact EST Group for any repair or replacements of
components.
Store these instructions with the Ram Package
components in the provided protective case.

Veiligheidsmaatregelen bij gebruik van het systeem
De gebruiker moet deze installatievoorschriften lezen en volledig
begrijpen alvorens te beginnen met de werkzaamheden. De
gebruiker moet de installatieprocedures die zijn meegeleverd met
elke set Pop-A-Plugs lezen en volledig begrijpen. We raden u aan de
trainingsvideo van de P2 of CPI/PERMA te bekijken om te leren hoe
u met de apparatuur omgaat. Het is de verantwoordelijkheid van de
gebruiker om passende veiligheids-, gezondheids- en
trainingsmaatregelen te treffen voor personeel dat deze apparatuur gebruikt of onderhoudt of werkt in een
gebied waar deze apparatuur wordt gebruikt.
De gebruiker moet een gekwalificeerde bediener zijn en moet vertrouwd zijn met het op de juiste manier
bedienen, onderhouden en gebruiken van hydraulische gereedschappen. Gebrek aan kennis over een of meer
van deze zaken kan lichamelijk letsel veroorzaken.
Draag geschikte oogbescherming om uw ogen te beschermen tegen het
weg vliegen van onderdelen of andere projectielen. Een gelaatsscherm
is acceptabel.
Draag geschikte gehoorbescherming om uzelf te beschermen tegen
gehoorverlies of -schade.
Gevaar van terugslag en uitworp van onderdelen. Houd uw lichaam,
hoofd, gezicht en al uw ledematen tijdens het gebruik uit de buurt van de
achterkant van de hydraulische ram.
De gereedschappen en componenten die in deze gebruiksaanwijzing worden vermeld, zijn uitsluitend bedoeld
om de P2- en CPI/PERMA-warmtewisselaarpijppluggen te installeren en te verwijderen. De apparatuur is niet
ontworpen of bestemd voor andere taken.
Laat de apparatuur nooit onbewaakt achter wanneer deze is aangesloten op een pneumatische drukbron.
De 'ram'-pakketten van EST Group zijn doorgaans niet geschikt voor contact met elektrische stroombronnen.
De 'ram'-pakketten van EST Group mogen niet worden gebruikt in een omgeving waar
ontploffingsgevaar heerst.
Onverwachte beweging van gereedschap of breuk van een geplaatst gereedschap kan letsel bij personeel
veroorzaken.
Wanneer een gebruiker niet de juiste lichaamshouding aanneemt, kan hij of zij mogelijk niet goed reageren op
normale of onverwachte bewegingen van het gereedschap tijdens het gebruik.
Inspecteer de apparatuur vóór elk gebruik om te voorkomen dat er onveilige situaties ontstaan. Gebruik de
apparatuur niet als deze beschadigd, gewijzigd of in slechte staat is.
Deze samenstellen bevatten geen onderdelen die door de gebruiker gerepareerd of onderhouden kunnen
worden, met uitzondering van het bijvullen/verwisselen van de hydraulische vloeistof. Als u opmerkt dat
apparatuur beschadigd of defect is, neem dan contact op met EST Group voor reparatie of vervanging.
Deze instructies zijn bestemd voor de eindgebruiker of bediener van deze apparatuur. Neem voor meer
informatie of onderdelenlijsten contact op met een vestiging van EST Group (zie onderaan de pagina).
Mocht een hydraulische slang ooit breken, barsten of ontkoppeld worden, schakel de pomp dan onmiddellijk uit
en ontlast alle druk. Probeer een lekkende slang onder druk nooit met uw handen vast te pakken. De kracht van
ontsnappende hydraulische vloeistof kan ernstig letsel veroorzaken.
Stel de slang niet bloot aan gevaren als vuur, scherpe oppervlakken, extreme hitte of koude en zware schokken
of stoten.

Zorg dat de slang niet wordt gewijzigd, geknikt, gekronkeld, geplet, ingesneden of zo sterk gebogen dat de
vloeistofstroom in de slang (gedeeltelijk) wordt geblokkeerd. Inspecteer de slang periodiek op slijtage,
aangezien al deze omstandigheden de slang kunnen beschadigen en lichamelijk letsel kunnen veroorzaken.
Gebruik de slang niet om aangesloten apparatuur te verplaatsen. Belasting kan de slang beschadigen en
mogelijk lichamelijk letsel veroorzaken.
Inspecteer alle componenten vóór elk gebruik op slijtage of schade. Gebruik apparatuur uitsluitend als deze in
goede staat is. Als u opmerkt dat apparatuur beschadigd of defect is, neem dan contact op met EST Group voor
reparatie of vervanging.
Vervang versleten of beschadigde veiligheidsstickers.
Het 'hydraulische ram'-pakket bevat geen onderdelen of componenten die door de gebruiker gewijzigd kunnen
worden.
Voordat u de olie bijvult, dient u het systeem in te trekken om overvullen van het pompreservoir te voorkomen.
Overvullen kan lichamelijk letsel veroorzaken, doordat er overmatige druk in het reservoir ontstaat wanneer de
ramcilinder wordt ingetrokken.
Schakel de luchtvoorziening uit en ontkoppel deze wanneer de pomp niet wordt gebruikt of voordat u een
aansluiting van het systeem loskoppelt.
Houd alle componenten van het systeem te allen tijde schoon.
Bescherm losgekoppelde snelkoppelingen altijd met beschermhoezen wanneer ze niet worden gebruikt.
Als de pomp, ram of slang zijn blootgesteld aan regen, sneeuw, zand, lucht met gruisdeeltjes of corrosieve
omstandigheden, moeten ze na blootstelling onmiddellijk worden gereinigd, gesmeerd en beschermd.

CONNECT
1. INSPECTIE
Alle apparatuur moet vóór gebruik worden geïnspecteerd om een veilige en betrouwbare werking
te waarborgen. Alleen gekwalificeerde bedieners mogen deze apparatuur in elkaar zetten,
bedienen en er onderhoud aan plegen.
1.1.Zorg dat de rode transportdop van het pompreservoir is verwijderd en is vervangen door de
zwarte ontluchtingsplug.
ROOD: TRANSPORTDOP ZWART: ONTLUCHTINGSPLUG
Zorg dat er voldoende hydraulische vloeistof in het reservoir zit. Voeg zo nodig vloeistof toe. Controleer het
oliepeil vóór het eerste gebruik van de dag en minimaal na elke 10 uur van gebruik.
Volg de veiligheids- en gebruiksinstructies van de hydraulische olie in overeenstemming met het meegeleverde
veiligheidsinformatieblad.
1.2.Slang
Controleer de slang op barsten, knikken of andere zichtbare schade. Inspecteer alle schroefdraden en fittingen
op tekenen van slijtage of schade. Maak de snelkoppelingen aan beide kanten schoon en zorg dat de
aanliggende componenten van de pomp en ram vrij zijn van vuil, deeltjes of vreemde voorwerpen.
1.3. Ram
Controleer visueel op cilinderschade, vloeistoflekkage en overmatige slijtage of beschadiging. Zorg dat de
veiligheidskabels goed zijn aangesloten op de ram.
2. SAMENSTEL
Verwijder alle schroefdraadbeschermdoppen. Sluit het slangsamenstel
aan op de pomp en ram. Zorg dat alle aanliggende snelkoppelingen
goed bevestigd en handvast zijn aangedraaid. Alle aansluitingen
moeten stevig en lekvrij, maar niet te strak zijn aangedraaid.

Sluit de luchtvoorziening aan op de ¼” F-NPT-poort aan de
achterkant van de pomp. De luchtvoorziening moet minimaal 20
cfm (0,57 m³/min) en 100 psig (7 barg) zijn om de nominale
hydraulische druk te bereiken. De luchtdruk moet worden ingesteld
op maximaal 120 psig (8,3 barg).
2.1.Het systeem ontlasten
Laat het systeem een aantal keer draaien, zonder belasting en met
een goed ontluchte pomp die hoger is geplaatst dan de ram.
Controleer of het reservoir het juiste vloeistofpeil heeft en vul zo
nodig bij.
3. TESTEN
3.1.Ram-/pompinstallatie testen
Bedien/controleer de ram-/pompinstallatie als volgt:
zet uw voet op het uiteinde van het pomppedaal
waarop 'POMPEN' staat en kijk ondertussen
naar de hydraulische ram. De ram moet binnen
enkele seconden gaan werken. Let op: de zuiger
beweegt uit de achterkant van de hydraulische ram.
Als de ram niet werkt: controleer alle aansluitingen en
het oliepeil en herhaal deze stap.
Wanneer het systeem goed werkt, komt de cilinder
van de ram 1" tot 3" (25,4 tot 76,2 mm) naar buiten
(afhankelijk van het model), waarna de druk
toeneemt tot 7500 psig (517 barg), zoals
aangegeven op de meter.
3.2.Pompdruk ontlasten
Houd de handgreep van de ram vast en zet
tegelijkertijd uw voet op het uiteinde van het
pomppedaal waarop 'ONTLASTEN' staat.
De zuiger van de ram wordt nu ingetrokken.
Ontkoppel de pneumatische snelkoppeling om de pneumatische kracht van de apparatuur te halen.

4. BEDIENING
Monteer de ramkop op het trekstangsamenstel, in overeenstemming met DC1220, DC4000 of andere bijzondere
installatievoorschriften: Pop-A-Plug-installatievoorschriften. Volg de Pop-A-Plug-installatievoorschriften.

Controleer vóór elk gebruik visueel op het volgende:
1. Barsten of beschadiging van de ramcilinder
2. Overmatige slijtage, gebogen onderdelen, beschadiging of onvoldoende ingrijping van schroefdraad
3. Lekkage van hydraulische vloeistof
4. Loszittende bouten of schroeven
5. Beschadiging of verkeerde montage van apparatuur
6. Aangepaste, gelaste of gewijzigde apparatuur
7. Gebogen of beschadigde koppelingen of poortschroefdraad
Gebruik de componenten niet als u een van bovengenoemde problemen waarneemt. Neem contact op met EST
Group voor reparatie of vervanging.
Als de pomp langdurig wordt gebruikt in continubedrijf raden we u aan een leidingfilter en een oliesmeerpot te
installeren. Gebruik SAE grade 5W tot 30W of een vergelijkbare olie.
5. REINIGING EN ONDERHOUD
Na gebruik moeten vuil en olie zorgvuldig van het ramsysteem worden verwijderd. Wanneer u de componenten van
het 'ram'-pakket voor en na gebruik schoonveegt, beperkt u de kans dat vreemde materialen het hydraulische of
pneumatische systeem binnendringen en verlengt u de levensduur van de apparatuur. Verwissel de hydraulische olie
na ongeveer 300 gebruiksuren; gebruik Power-Team AW hydraulische olie ISO-46.
5.1.Het reservoir aftappen en spoelen
Veeg de buitenkant van de pomp volledig schoon voordat u met deze procedure begint.
1. Verwijder de schroeven waarmee het pompsamenstel is bevestigd aan het reservoir. Haal het
pompsamenstel van het reservoir af. Zorg dat de pakking, filter en veiligheidsklep niet beschadigd raken.
2. Laat alle vloeistof uit het reservoir lopen en vul het weer tot de helft met schone hydraulische vloeistof.
Spoel het filter schoon.
3. Plaats het pompsamenstel terug op het reservoir en bevestig het met twee van de
bevestigingsschroeven. Gebruik de schroefopeningen in tegenoverliggende hoeken van het huis.

4. Laat de pomp een aantal minuten draaien. Raadpleeg het volgende hoofdstuk 'De pomp laten aanzuigen'
voor de juiste werkwijze.
5. Laat het reservoir nog een keer leeglopen en maak het opnieuw schoon.
6. Vul het reservoir weer met hydraulische vloeistof en plaats het pompsamenstel, met pakking, terug op het
reservoir en breng de bevestigingsschroeven aan. Draai de schroeven aan tot 25-30 in-lbs (2,8 tot 3,4 Nm).
Belangrijk: laat de overige componenten van het ramsysteem leeglopen en maak ze
schoon voordat u ze weer in elkaar zet. Zo voorkomt u dat verontreinigde vloeistof
opnieuw in de pomp terechtkomt.
5.2.De pomp laten aanzuigen
In bepaalde omstandigheden kan het nodig zijn de pompeenheid te laten aanzuigen. Dit doet u als volgt:
1. Druk het 'ontlasten'-uiteinde van het pedaal in terwijl u de luchtinlaatklep naar beneden drukt met een platte
schroevendraaier. U vindt de luchtinlaatklep pal onder het pedaal in het gebied met de markering .
Tijdens het aanzuigen wordt de klep tegelijk met het -gedeelte van het pedaal ingedrukt.
2. Laat de pomp ongeveer 15 seconden werken.
3. Verwijder de schroevendraaier en druk nogmaals op het -uiteinde van het pedaal.
4. Als de cilinder naar buiten komt of de druk stijgt, is het aanzuigproces geslaagd. Als de pomp niet reageert,
moet u de procedure herhalen: beweeg dan de luchtinlaatklep terwijl u het pedaal in de -stand houdt.
5.3.Periodieke reiniging
Vuil is de belangrijkste oorzaak van storingen in hydraulische pompen. Houd de pomp en aangesloten apparatuur schoon
om te voorkomen dat er vreemde materialen in het systeem komen.
Zorg voor een vaste routine om de ram, slang en pomp zo schoon mogelijk te houden. Alle niet-aangesloten koppelingen
moeten beschermd worden.
5.4.Repareerbare onderdelen
Het 'ram'-pakket bevat geen repareerbare onderdelen. Neem contact op met EST Group voor reparatie of vervanging van
onderdelen.

van het 'ram'-pakket, in de meegeleverde beschermhoes.
