Transport/Installation
CAUTION!
Danger of falling parts!
The rail guides of the 19" rack must be specified for the total weight of the ES4710.1. Only use rail guides that are
designed to hold at least 15 kg per pair.
If the rail guides are designed for too light a weight, they could bend or break.
Requirements for the Installation Location
WARNING!
This is class A equipment. This equipment can cause radio interference in residential areas. Should that be the case, the
operator may be requested to introduce reasonable measures.
Ventilation
Please observe the following points when operating the ES4710.1:
The ventilation openings must be at least 15 cm from walls or objects in the environment. Keep a distance of at
least 44.5 mm (1 RU) from the next module at the top and bottom.
The ES4710.1 must always be installed as the topmost module in the rack system.
The ambient temperature in the rack must not exceed the maximum value of 40 °C/104 °F.
Grounding of the ES4710.1 Module and the Rack System
Grounding of the ES4710.1 Module
The ES4710.1 module itself is grounded by the correctly connected mains cable with a single-phase power line with
protective conductor (PE) and neutral conductor (N).
Check the pin assignment of the connector for the power supply line based on the information given below or the
chapter "Pin Assignment and Technical Data for the POWER IN Connector" of the user manual.

MAIN SWITCH
The main switch of the ES4710.1 serves as a mains line disconnector.
The main switch of the ES4710.1 must always be within reach and, in particular, must never be covered.
Switching on the MAIN SWITCH supplies the ES4710.1 module incl. the ONLY SERVICE socket with power.
Power is supplied to the ONLY SERVICE socket (as well as the module-internal low-voltage power supply units and the
FAN connection) directly after the MAIN SWITCH is switched on.
Power is supplied (except for ONLY SERVICE) with a delay of approx. 20 seconds after switching on the MAIN SWITCH
because startup of the LAN module for the remote control takes around 20 seconds.
CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH
The CONTROL ON/OFF switch switches on the Schuko plug sockets L1/L2/L3 (PROTECTED POWER Lx) of the ES4710.1
module.
With the setting "1" or "ON", all internal components and the Schuko plug sockets L1/L2/L3 (PROTECTED POWER Lx)
are supplied with power.
BATTERY ON/OFF SWITCH
This switch supplies the BATTERY connection with power. It can be switched on/off when the CONTROL ON/OFF switch
is activated.
EMERGENCY STOP Pushbutton
When the EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton is pressed, the complete system shuts down. The EMERGENCY STOP
pushbutton must only be pressed in emergencies.
Caution: The ONLY SERVICE socket is still live when the EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton is pressed!

ONLY SERVICE Socket (ONLY SERVICE Schuko Plug Socket)
The ONLY SERVICE socket must only be used for servicing the system.
The ONLY SERVICE socket is supplied directly with power when the MAIN SWITCH is switched on.
The ONLY SERVICE socket is protected by the main automatic cutout/circuit breaker F1 (16 A).
WARNING!
Even if the EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton is pressed, the ONLY SERVICE socket is still
supplied with power.
An emergency shutdown is not possible for devices that are connected to the ONLY
SERVICE socket during an ongoing HiL experiment.
Only use the ONLY SERVICE socket for supervised service purposes and never during
an ongoing HiL experiment.
EMERGENCY STOP Connection
The EMERGENCY STOP connection is an interface for an external EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton.
The interface is designed with two safety channels. The interface makes the interruption of the two safety signals of the
safety switching device (PNOZ S4 24 V DC) used in the ES4710.1 possible.
If a remote emergency-stop switch is not used, the two safety channels must be closed, otherwise the system can not
be switched on via the ES4710.1.

Insulation Requirements
Insulation requirements for lab power supplies and other current/voltage sources for circuits connected to the HiL
system:
The power supply to live circuitry must be safely isolated from the supply voltage. For example, use a car
battery or a suitable lab power supply.
Only use lab power supplies with dual protection for the supply network (with double/reinforced insulation
(DI/RI)). This requirement is met by lab power supplies that comply with IEC/EN 60950 or IEC/EN 61010.
The lab power supply must be approved for use at a height of 2000 m and in ambient temperatures of up to
40 °C.
