1 Before you begin
Toprotectthe tape drive fromESD,follow these procedureswhen repairing
or testing it:
Place a static protection mat on the work surface used for tape drive
components.Usea1-megohmresistortogroundthe staticprotectionmat.
Wear a static protection wrist band whenever you handle tape drive
printed circuit cards that have been removed from their antistatic bags.
Connect this wrist band to the static protection mat or to other suitable
ESD grounding.
Keep the SCSI card in an antistatic bag until you are ready to install it.
Handle the SCSI card by its edges only.
If there is a cartridge in the tape drive, remove it before performing any
maintenance procedure.
CAUTION
Beforeyoubegin,makesurethattherepairenvironment
for the tape drive is free of conditions that could cause
electrostatic discharge (ESD).

2 Removing the SCSI card
1. Turn the tape drive upside-down. Using a T-6 screwdriver, remove
the two side screwsand one rearscrewthat secure the bottomcover
to the tape drive, as shown in Figure 1. Remove the bottom cover.
2. Use a T-6 screwdriver to remove the two screws and lock washers
that secure the SCSI card to the tape drive, as shown in Figure 2.
3. Discard the old screws and lock washers.

CAUTION
Do not allow the screws or lock washers to fall into the
tape drive.

4. The SCSI connector islocated on the underside of the SCSI card, on
the left side (see Figure 2). To disengage the SCSI connector, lift the
left edge of the card.
5. Remove the SCSI card.

CAUTION
To avoid damaging the SCSI card, lift the left side first.
Make sure the SCSI connector is disconnected before
you remove the card.
CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the MRCcard as you remove
the SCSI card.

3 Installing the SCSI card
1. Remove the replacement SCSI card from its antistatic bag.
2. Handling the card by its edges, position the card with the SCSI
connector on the left. The hooked edge of the card goesaround the
right rear edge of the MRC card (see Figure 3).
3. Press down firmly on the left edge of the card to seat the SCSI
connector.
4. Install the two screws and lock washersused to attach the SCSI card
to the tape drive (see Figure 3). Use a T-6 screwdriver to tighten the
screws to 1.2 inch-pounds of torque.
ÌImportant Do not use the old screws. The new
screws are required to hold the card firmly in place.
5. Replace the bottom cover.

6. Replace the two side screws and one rear screw that secure the
bottom cover to the tape drive (see Figure 4.) Tighten the screws to
1.2 inch-pounds of torque.
4 After you replace the SCSI card
After you replace the SCSI card, you willneed to perform the following
operations:
Set the tape drive SCSI ID
Attach the power cable and SCSI cable
Power on the tape drive
Perform diagnostic tests
